We now have a 100% repro on at least one particular scenario for HBSOD, and a fix for that particular scenario should be available shortly. It's critically important we gather as much information as possible to track down squirrely things like this. That means if additional scenarios generate a black screen, please contact Line 6 CS ASAP and walk us through exactly what happened. If we can repro something, we can generally turn around a fix very quickly.

Can you use Exp pedal switch as on/off for non pedal effects?
Digital_Igloo replied to Gawwuf's topic in Helix
Yes, but since there's no capacitive touch circuit in the toe switch (for obvious reasons), you have to assign the blocks manually from the Footswitch Assign screen: Press MENU and then Knob 1 (Footswitch Assign). Select the block you wish to assign and then turn Knob 1 (Footswitch) to "EXP Toe." -
You can split twice per preset, but there are three places where you can split: Path 1 split into Path 1A and 1B Path 1A (or 1B) split to both Paths 2A and 2B (via Path 1 output routing) Path 2 split into Path 2A and 2B

Press the hidden toe switch in the expression pedal. It won't work on thick carpeting (by design).

You can also assign a footswitch to, ahem, boost the treble knob on an Amp+Cab block: Press AMP to select the Amp+Cab block and press and hold the Treble knob. Press Knob 6 (Learn Controller) and press the desired footswitch. Turn Knobs 4 (Min Value) and Knob 5 (Max Value) to the desired value range that will toggle when you press the switch. Press HOME to exit. If that doesn't quite cut it, you could also assign the same switch to boost the channel volume, drop the bass a bit, and turn up the gain a smidge. Then, since the scribble strip reads "MULTIPLE (3)", you can relabel it "DI Is Super Cool" from the Command Center screen.
-
Quick Controller Assign can be even faster: Press and hold the knob under the parameter you wish to assign a controller. Press Knob 6 (Learn Controller) and move/use the desired controller (press a footswitch, move an expression pedal, turn a Variax knob, send a MIDI CC from an external box or computer DAW, etc.). If desired, turn Knob 4 (Min Value) and Knob 5 (Max Value) to set the controller's range—even in reverse Press HOME to exit. Repeat steps 1-3 for as many assignments as you want (up to 8 per footswitch or 64 per preset). Page 36 in the Helix Owner's Manual has some tips and tricks.

Correct—Helix lets you reamp two sources simultaneously, both in stereo.

There's a big section on Dynamic DSP on page 19 of the Helix Owner's Manual.

"Master" volume and "Drive" should be on same page
Digital_Igloo replied to HonestOpinion's topic in Helix
Well, if Helix had seven knobs below the screen, Master would certainly be on the same page. Historically, the Channel Volume knob is extremely important in leveling presets against one another, but now that Helix has per Output block level and pan, this is less of a big deal (except in multi-amp tones). Master Volume has always been considered a deep amp parameter, and the knobs on page 1 have always been considered "tonestack knobs" in Line 6 parlance. That said, I'm not married to parameter order. The vast majority of people would have to agree to the swap, however; I'm not too fond of adding global preference settings that aren't absolutely necessary, especially when they may confuse someone, as in "What? Where did my Channel Volume knob go?" -
If your gear is in the corner of a room, it's common for some people to plug some boxes into one wall and others into a different wall. If those outlets are on different circuits, you're almost guaranteed to get ground hum. Start with plugging only Helix and your amp into the same outlet—no power conditioners, no pedals, nothing. If there's still ground hum, something weird is going on.

Please contact our CS department. They should be able to get you situated.

Delay or reverb spillover is fairly easy to implement, but then all your presets have to have the same delay and reverb (which may be acceptable to some). We have some cooler ideas.
-
Custom labels currently only utilize one font. It's the biggest font that supports up to 16 characters.
-
Yes, if Global EQ Monitor is set to XLR or 1/4", which it is by default.
-
I wouldn't use the term "useless", but if you're only ever reamping via USB and never care about the 1/4" or XLR outs, you still have access to countless free VST and/or AudioUnit EQs, most of which have fancy GUI curves and can be disabled after tracking. Because Helix's routing is so powerful, there's no magical place to put a Global EQ that gets applied to all outputs unless you make 18 channels of Global EQ (and waste precious DSP resources).
-
No problem, and everything should be in stereo. You will, however, need to use at least one of the four stereo paths to route S/PDIF directly to the XLRs. The other three can be dedicated for your guitar. Then later, if you feel like running Helix blocks (or program changes or MIDI bass pedals) on your Kronos, it's ready to go.

Helix as a controller for Fractal Axe FX2, midi details?
Digital_Igloo replied to anason-records's topic in Helix
Currently, Helix only sends one message per footswitch (per preset), but recalling a preset can also transmit up to six instant commands that aren't tied to any footswitch. There's nothing really stopping us from the ability to add more than one command per switch, but every little thing adds to preset load time, so we started out with just one. I believe there's already an IdeaScale request for multiple commands per switch. -
The only product on the planet with preset spillover is the DigiTech GSP1101 and it dedicates half of its horsepower to spillover and only spillover. If you can live with two tones spilling over within the same preset, try starting out with 8 TEMPLATES > 02C TwoTones A-B or 02D TwoTones Blend. Both have spillover delay and reverb. We also have some cool ideas for the future, but can't publicly commit to anything.

We typically need photos and mockups many months before the actual presets are made. "Dream Rig Duet" wasn't a preset as much as it was a pretty looking screenshot. I probably built that "preset" a hundred times on 40 units; still have no idea what it sounds like. :D

It's way simpler than that. Assign both the Cab block (use separate Amp and Cab blocks here) and IR block to the same footswitch. Touch the footswitch to make sure one of its blocks is selected and press BYPASS. Pressing the footswitch will toggle the enabled/bypass state for both blocks.

The manual is correct—Global EQ is designed to affect only the XLR outs, 1/4" outs, or both XLR and 1/4" outs (the default).

Rename Scribble Strip with multi parameters - not blocks?
Digital_Igloo replied to rsto10's topic in Helix
If something's assigned to a switch, you don't need to use the joystick at all. Just touch the switch. If multiple items are assigned to a switch, touch the switch repeatedly. Way faster and easier than providing some complex assignment matrix view. -
Footswitches can be assigned to blocks, parameters, and Command Center messages. If your tone doesn't have a Split block (which can be set to A/B, which can be assigned to a footswitch), volume blocks are the key. There are two template presets already set up for this: 8 TEMPLATES > 02C TwoTones A-B and 02D TwoTones Blend.

Global Settings for 4CM - any need to change anything?
Digital_Igloo replied to welshboyo's topic in Helix
The main thing is to make sure your ins and outs are set to the proper levels: Press MENU and then Knob 6 (Global Settings). Select the Ins/Outs submenu and press [PAGE>] to view page 2. Set these parameters appropriately for your amp. Most amps' effects loops run at instrument level, but some can be switched from instrument to line.
