HELIX FIRMWARE v1.04.3 RELEASE NOTES IMPORTANT! Before restoring your backed up presets to Helix, you must first install the latest version of the Helix application! Helix v1.04.3 is a free firmware update that includes fixes, stability improvements, and optimizations. It is highly recommended that all Helix users perform this update! It is also recommended that you back up your current presets by using the Helix application to create a preset bundle, allowing you to install new presets as part of the update process. The easiest way to perform the update process is by installing the latest version of Line 6 Updater. Once you've connected Helix to your computer via its USB port (hubs are not supported), Line 6 Updater will recognize the unit and take you through the update process. The Line 6 Updater application may be downloaded here: http://line6.com/software/ BUG FIXES In rare cases, engaging the expression pedal toe switch may cause the 1/4" and XLR outputs to stop passing audio, while the rest of the unit appears to be functioning normally. Audio could only be restored by turning Helix off and back on again —FIXED General stability improvements Other minor bug fixes and optimizations RESETTING HELIX GLOBALS IMPORTANT! This procedure will completely overwrite all existing presets and setlists, as well as clear all user IRs and reset all global settings! Back up your presets and IRs before proceeding! Turn off Helix. While holding footswitches 9 and 10 (middle two switches on the bottom row), turn on Helix. Wait for the message “Will reset Globals and restore stock Presets, Setlists and IRs…†to appear and let go. Known Issues Assigning a custom label to the EXP Toe Switch scribble strip disconnects wah blocks Position parameter from EXP 1; can be manually reassigned Pressing BYPASS while viewing the Model List > Looper category can invert Looper footswitch behavior Saving a preset to a new destination may display the wrong preset name until it's reloaded While a loop is playing, changing from a preset with the Looper block on Path 1 to one with the Looper block on Path 2 may cause a small portion of the recorded loop to play Minor pops and clicks may be present when Helix is streaming audio from a Mac® running OS X 10.11.1 (El Capitan) Minor pops and clicks may be present when Helix is streaming audio from an iOS® device running iOS 9 with Apple® Camera Kit Importing a Helix bundle while streaming audio over USB may cause the Helix application to disconnect In rare cases, Amp+Cab or Cab > Dual parameter graphics may overlap the action panel buttons while in Pedal Edit mode Changing a delay with note subdivision time will unsync resultant delay time from Preset/Global BPM

It's optional in the way that wearing your seatbelt is optional. ;) You'll probably be okay, but the safest path forward is to back up presets, update and reset globals, and then restore your presets.

Will the Editor work without being connected to a Helix device?
Digital_Igloo replied to theKennyG's topic in Helix
The current plan is to have the editor only work while Helix is connected. There are good reasons for this, but they deal with future plans, so I can't discuss them.- 1 reply

Please give CS a call. They'll be able to confirm if something is indeed amiss.

So why is it taking sooooo long for Helix to be readily Available.
Digital_Igloo replied to lefttygtr's topic in Helix
Nope, it was all about the ability to get Variax tech into more players' hands, which is much easier to do at $799 MAP. That said, we have no plans to EOL JTVs anytime soon, and they'll have to tear my JTV-59 from my cold, dead mitts. Love that thing. -
The Aux In is 10k Ohm (yes, the Helix floor's manual has a typo), which is closer to line level than instrument level. The four FX returns can be set to instrument or line level.

Hopefully in 1.04.2 next week.

Helix Rack is now $1399 (MSRP/MAP). Helix Control is now $399 (MSRP/MAP). The reasons are two-fold: The latest manufacturing quote ended up lower than expected (which almost never happens!) Helix Rack and Helix Control really should be used together, as a large part of the user experience relies on scribble strips, cap-sense footswitches, and Pedal Edit mode. In fact, the Helix Rack Users Manual and Cheat Sheet assume one has purchased both. I really, really pushed for a separate $1799 Helix Rack/Control bundle for users who wanted both, but an additional SKU wasn't in the cards. We ran the numbers with some fuzzy math and realized it was doable without special bundle pricing. From where I'm sitting, it's an incentive to get people to use Helix Rack and Helix Control together If you've already preordered Helix Rack, with or without Helix Control, the new pricing will be applied to your order. All authorized Helix dealers have been informed of the change; if a website hasn't been updated yet, please be patient.

FWIU, the Helix app version used when backing up isn't important, only the version used when restoring.
-
You should only worry about 110-Ohm AES/EBU cables if you're using L6 LINK to other Line 6 gear. The normal XLR analog outs can use normal XLR cables.
-
Easiest thing to do is start with 8 TEMPLATES > 01B Parallel Spans. Swap out the Amp+Cab blocks with Amp and IR blocks. Place pre-amp FX to the right of the Volume block (before the Split), and shared post-amp FX to the left of the Reverb (after the Merge).

Helix FW 1.04.1 (and Helix App 1.02) Now Available
Digital_Igloo replied to Digital_Igloo's topic in Helix
7 and 8 update only the presets; 9 and 10 update the presets and some behind-the-scenes global settings (as well as the user-facing Global Settings). 9 and 10 is a cleaner update, but you'll have to manually reset your Global Settings. Good call on the "stock vs. factory" confusion. I'll make a note. Thanks! -

You mean where there are no parameters at the bottom of the screen? You can always select a None block and save the preset that way. If you don't want touching a footswitch to select different blocks or other items, you can disable touch select from Global Settings > Footswitches > Touch Select. At that point, the only way to edit anything accidentally is to use the joystick or Pedal Edit mode.

Yep. My Mac (MacBook Pro, mid 2012) doesn't see Helix with El Capitan either. It's pretty well-known that there are serious USB connectivity issues with El Capitan (even with extremely simple devices like USB flash drives!). Hopefully OS X 10.11.2 will fix things; unfortunately, until then, we're at the mercy of Apple. The vast majority of Macs seem to have no problem seeing Helix with El Cap. Mine is the only Mac in the building that doesn't work, and like yours, it worked fine with Yosemite.

We've decided to smack 1.04 around this weekend. With luck, you'll all see it Monday.

Here are a few things to try: Check your output levels (Global Settings > Ins/Outs > Page 2) Turn on Helix's pad switch (Global Settings > Ins/Outs > Page 1), even if you don't think your guitar's pickups are overly hot Set the Guitar In Impedance to "Auto" (Global Settings > Ins/Outs > Page 1) If you're connecting Helix's XLRs to a mixer of sorts, make sure your mixer's phantom power is off Confirm Helix's audio quality via headphones you trust If all else fails, backup all your presets, do a full reset (hold FS9 and FS10—the two middle switches on the bottom row—while booting), and before reloading your presets, check the factory ones. If they're fine, reload yours. The reset will also wipe out all your global settings, so you'll need to redo them
-
That deals with firmware, not the actual part. It's something that can always be improved. The trick is that some knobs cycle through 2 values and others 8000 (!).
-
Did you reset your globals? If you don't, a lot of the behind-the-scenes fixes may not take hold. Back up your presets, reset all presets and globals (hold 9 and 10 on boot), restore your presets.

Line 6 had two options: Delay Helix's release until the full editor is done. Don't delay Helix's release until the full editor is done. Note that there's never been a "3. Don't release a full editor" option. No one at Line 6 has ever argued—or even suggested—that Helix shouldn't have an editor. The ONLY point of contention is that a full editor isn't available at launch, but that's really common in this industry.

1) Yes, but they're different. The Helix Owner's Manual describes them on pages 26 and 28, respectively. 2) Each amp's tonestack behaves like the original amp. 3) It's virtually identical to the Treadplate we have at Line 6, but all Rectifiers sound slightly different, so... This was a bug that was fixed in 1.03. Update, and the setlists should recall correctly.

How do I change the EXP1 and EXP2 label to Wah and Vol?
Digital_Igloo replied to SWoRd's topic in Helix
Works fine here. Just to make sure—you're not expecting the scribble strip to change beyond your custom label text to dim, right? That's all that it'll do. But it should still engage/bypass any assigned blocks as normal. If it's not, make sure the blocks are still assigned. If it's still acting funky, yeah, reinstall 1.03 and definitely reset your globals (back up your presets, hold 9 and 10 while booting to reset, reload your presets).
