  1. It is true that you can't change models themselves in pedal edit mode. I use the software for most editing, but really love pedal edit for adjusting the power amp params more than anything.
  2. I would love to tackle Pantera. I've been arguing with myself for months over which tune/era I'd go for first. Cowboys... had such an impact and is instantly recognizable, but FBD is so much thicker, while ...Trendkill is my personal favorite. Too many options, too little time!

  4. If I understand correctly, yes. When set to 100% wet, at a quarter note, in parallel path, there will be two eighth notes before you hear any signal from the parallel.
  5. I'm sure that's true! But I'm making up for it by not missing out on playing guitar and having fun. No problem with your advocating for trying every possible combination, but it's not what's right for me and I'm only offering a different point-of-view. Sometimes I do try lots of cabs and mics, other times not. If you've seen any of my youtube vids you'll know I can be meticulous in my tone crafting ;)
  6. The majority of the time I will use the default pairing that Line 6 have set to come up with each amp. I will only change it if there's a specific thing missing from the tonality that I'm looking for.
  7. You can pretty easily do this by assigning the footswitch to control the "level" param from -120 to 0.0dB instead of assigning it to on/off.
  8. On the actual Helix hardware itself the "Save As" is by turning the knobs for setlist and location as noted by previous posters. When you do this it does not affect the "source" location and only saves changes to the new location. When done on the hardware it should auto-switch to the newly saved location. In the editor on your computer you can copy/paste presets in the conventional way by right-click or shortcut keys. However, doing this in the editor does not change the current selected patch. It also takes some planning as I don't think copy/paste if you already edited the patch (but didn't save yet) will copy the unsaved changes. It probably copies only the originally saved settings. I'm not in front of Helix right now but definitely try it out when you get the chance.
  9. Before Helix? HD500 and always with dual amps. Before that, X3 Live, always with dual amps. Mostly with Helix I am on dual amps (and never on single amp) but I'm happy to have the power to add that third amp. In rare cases I can add a fourth amp if I don't need too many effects. Here's an example of a four-amp tone I've done. I'd imagine in the studio they used many more than four amps for this track. Trying to duplicate that process of mixing amps, cabs, and speakers is the only way to match the tonal nuance of the original.
  10. Snapshots are great for "traditional" things in Helix. There's not nearly enough DSP for snapshots to cover complicated stuff. A very common thing for me to do is a dirty tone with 2-3 layered amps and a clean tone with 2-3 layered amps. A snapshot will never fix that problem. Presets are the only thing that fit the bill. The need for fast preset switching is alive and well even in a post-snapshot world. I'm super happy Line 6 eliminated the "fade-in" effect and preset changes are really snappy now.
  11. Unfortunately programming it in that way is not possible. The only option for auto-return to stomp mode is to use 8-switch mode :(
  12. Snapshots are your best bet for greater control, but to directly answer your original question: no, that's not possible with Helix itself.
  13. If computer is making noise through your amps you should be able to fix that by telling your computer to stop outputting audio to that USB device. In your computer settings tell it to ignore the Helix as soundcard. Windows is especially bad at this but it can happen on OSX as well.
  14. There are plenty of new factory presets in 2.00 release. In fact, there are 53 new factory presets. I catalogued them all on my site. There were also 17 old factory presets eliminated. FACTORY 2 was not a full set list which is why fewer were deleted than added. You can find the full list on my site as well as a download link if you want the missing factory presets back (they've already been converted to 2.00 patch file format by import/export to the new Helix app).
  15. Yeah, if you are sitting near your computer while playing it is most likely the guitar pickups. Try turning your guitar volume knob off and see if the noise goes away.
  16. Seems "fixed" to me so far. I don't notice any of the old "fade-in" after changing complex patches. Not only that, it seems blazing fast as a result. After twelve different "five page long" posts about how bad it was, we need to give some love for the improvements.
  17. He doesn't explain it in the video well at all, but he is right and so are you. Putting the chorus on a parallel path does not create a more polished studio sound. It's sonically equivalent to adjusting the mix parameter. However, putting the chorus on a parallel path and putting something different on the other path can create a more polished sound. For example, you can have chorus on one path and reverb on the other. The chorused signal is not reverbed and the reverbed signal is not chorused. In some situations with some effects it can help retain clarity. I'm fond of putting my delays parallel to my reverbs. This way the repeats of the delay do not cause a buildup of reverb. It's not the "right" way to do it but is one of the right ways to do it. Unfortunately due to videos like this people are starting to get the impression there's some magic sound to putting effects in a parallel chain. It's not "more polished studio sound" just a different sound. Also in this video he never actually puts any parallel effects so the sonic equivalent can likely be achieved by adjusting the mix control of both the reverb and the chorus.
  18. I have pick noise like nuts. I hate it. This has been a problem for me on every real tube amp or modeler that I have ever used. I've always considered it a deficiency in my playing. This past weekend at practice the keyboard player says, "I really like that sharp click sound you get at the beginning of each note!" Ear of the beholder I guess. Embrace it.
  19. It's gotta be down to difference in guitar or playing style if you are listening to the vids and your Helix through the same headphones. All the vids are a single track of guitar with no extra processing. Guitar straight to Helix which is USB to my DAW.

  22. I've been working on Metallica tones for their first five albums. The goal was to get as accurate as possible. Here's where I ended up! The video quality varies quite a bit but all the guitar playing is recorded direct to the computer via USB with no mixing or any kind of extra processing added. It's straight Helix.   24. Just to be sure, you're not using the Bucket Brigade delay, are you? It has a cap on delay time and some not-at-all-intuitive behavior when you try to exceed that.
  25. You don't need to go new. Grab a lightly used set of Event 20/20BAS off Ebay or Reverb. I've been mixing on my passive Event 20/20 since 1996. The BAS is the active model with built in bi-amp. 8" woofers and I've used them to mix every record and artist I've ever worked with.
