  1. Sounds like the previous house owner jinxt it with his bodgie electrical work.
  2. I agree the Amps are not matched in volume and the output levels jump around depending on the amp and only when using the amp block no FX etc. One can only guess as to why this is and we may never know. Could it be, different personal involved (how/where the modeling equipment was set and the evolving of amp modeling at the time ie newer better equipment utilized over the development period.) Most of us have worked out our own way to get matched levels amp to amp. I use the mixer block to match levels as I believe the power amp volume is part of the sound of an amp if ever so slight with Line 6 HD amps. I can hear a difference and that is good enough for me. Even if I think I do but it may be a predetermined algorithm for all amp volume control. This is an issue that the user has to address and it has been the source of numerous complaints and made the unit seem like it is a tweak fest nightmare. The workarounds others use are also worth knowing. The simplest solution is always best
  3. Man, Police had an album :"Ghost in the machine" My mechanic knows the phenomenon; machinery breaks down for some people like they are jinxing it somehow. Their car is always in the shop getting fixed and the person wants to sell it, the mechanic tells another client and he buys it and never has a problem with it. LOL It is true some people effect machinery and computers are more prone to their ghost.LOL
  4. I think anyone using multiple amps will be a touring professional and likely know or have the Techie available to ensure there are no phase issues. This ability to run multiple amps is going to lure even bigger selling professional to the Helix. It is a huge plus for getting tones that near rival expensive touring rigs. Lets hope the FX count increases
  5. To my ears the videos I have checked it undoubtedly is sounding better. more detailed with both the FX and cleaner amp tones. That over AU$2k is unlikely as the actual sell price. It might be the RRP but I predict $1.890 AU street price. I expect future firmware updates will increase FX available. Now the question is how much can I get it imported from Sweetwater.
  6. I thought the Helix better but that clip shows a little difference. Mmm I thought it was same player on another video but it is your tone matching! Not bad Fairly close! The new methodology of Helix is its selling point. It is really something, especially if the FX in it rival what Fractal's FX8 has. I really like the routing options. For Live use it will shine if the FX for it keep coming. I can see having the stereo FX being routed to their own amps rather then mushed in with the Amp tones in a center amp. Really great for high gain definition.
  7. GREAT ! It is unlikely those matched deals will be available for the financed deal. As it is a contract at the time of signing up. Only if on your exisiting card cheque or cash. Worth checking if on easy 3 x payment plan. Probably! Those interest free are fine and a great source of free money so long as you keep up and never mis a monthly repayment. They are also worded that you think you have 3 years to wait to pay it off. Not so. $42 x 12 = $504 $42 x 36 =$1512 How do they make any money? Is the first question you gotta ask about these finance deals. A friend in finance answered it this way; The Market for deals like this is for those who cannot afford it. Relying on you not being able to stick to the deal by forgetting, being layed off other bills emergencies etc. It only takes one repayment to be missed and the contract/ deal is broken; you are charged very high interest from then on.. The good news! The trick is pay it back faster than required. Apart from yearly fee it is money for nothing. Set up Monthly repayment reminders from your bank and pay more than required. Generally 4x min to repay in one year. Set up monthly reminders, like auto withdrawal from you bank.
  8. Good new! I'll keep an eye on the FAQs
  9. cool but from what I have tried IRs influence the sound in an EQ kind of way. It cant recreate your source to sound like it's source only influence it. Could be interesting though
  10. Yeah true reverbs would cause too much latency. Where did you get that info? cheers
  11. Yes you are totally right, it is totally a subjective matter. That percentage was arbitrary. But there is such a thing as experienced ears. Guys like you who have been around and have played some of the real amps modeled. You can hear minute tonal change. After all that is the nature of the ear. It is not unreal that 1% difference could be noticed by a professional guitarist without ear damage. This is all arbitrary of course. And thus my conjecture; The consensus is that the HD models are close to about 90% real in detail compared with the real amp miked and listened over the same monitors in the control room. Consensus also has the better units like the Axe FX and Kemper Profiler close to 95% there to the real thing when listening over control room monitors. It is purely arbitrary that the Helix could be as much as 3-5% better than the HD making it as good and HOPEFULLY better than the Axe and Kemper. Unlikely but wishful nonetheless. All will be revealed and none too soon! Even at that with all the improvements in the design hard and soft it is getting my gas hankering
  12. I hope the Helix can load stereo IRs. That means a L and a R loaded separately. Then if any number of IRs can be assigned to a path. ie multiple blocks things could get interesting. Stereo IRs for Cab then post an IR for a recording chain into an API or Neve console or one of each L and R. I'd like to know the limits of IR playing in the Helix and the possibilities.
  13. Helix is the cure! LOL I like that it can be a hub to other gear.
  14. Impulse Responses are simple wave files created by sampling an impulse of a room or piece of gear. They are fairly easy to make with the right program and there are plenty of free and for sale IRs of all sorts of things. Most common is of room. spaces for reverb but even high end record chains and amps and cabs thus the popularity to be able to load them in Guitar FX processor. Here is a link to get an understanding of them to make your own or be able to put them to good use. http://designingsound.org/2012/12/recording-impulse-responses/
  15. IF the HX modelling was noticeably better there would or soon will be A/B clips demonstrating it. I can tell already the quality is there in the demo's so far. The playing also helps too but I can hear more detail. What I don't know is what the recording chain is. Like any exponential curve , getting to the next level requires 2 or 3 times the processing power to equate more then an incremental increase. The detail of the clips to me is is generous 3-5% improvement. Most HD users will hear the difference. ABing is perfectly valid so long as the testing has no variables apart from the units. Sweetwater may also make improvements over past L6 gear demos in production. DSD recording thru better than in the past equipment. Who knows!
  16. Awesome to see more on Helix. Very Exciting!
  17. hype it was to you. Perhaps it is wishful thinking to me LOL I wont buy till I try. Cheers
  18. There is no denying to be able to see what you are doing is a huge improvement. Imagine if the Axe had that large multi colored screen? It would transform it and not be such a chore to program. The Helix no doubt will sound better. I read in the FAQ that there wont be any headroom issue so that means the O/S must be 32bit floating point. The converters might also be better so even using the same amp modelling on it would reveal better detail. I am only guessing but it is also stated that the Helix modelling is from the ground up so the improvement is not going to be subtle. It should be the best sounding modeler by all accounts. The ease of use without bending down will win it a lot of friends
  19. A compressor lowers the peak volume and raises the lowest sounds or compressing the lowest to the highest sound volumes (dynamic range) narrows the width of range and ideal on those instruments that have a large range like bass and vocals. Most pedal compressors are not the same as studio compressors and are best considered sustainers. Are ideal for cleaner wildly dynamic sounds from a guitar. Not needed if your clipping an amp or using a distortion pedal.
  20. LOL yeah way to loose credability. Only the most depraved wll agree with a hate message. He could of handled his video request better.
  21. Yeah it could be a gripe when the HD500 drivers block out any other interface ins and outs but as I already had a recording rig didn't bother me to go into PC via s/pdif. I like that the Helix might be named after the outer ear ! Cool
