  1. Bless your wife! That would be great but you need Amplifi to pair the remote app. But it certainly would be great for patch building. As it is I build most of my patches on the unit itself and this idea would be awesome.Check out Idea scale and see if it is there already, if not why not request it (fat chance for HD500 but maybe Helix)
  2. I love my POD HD 500 It stands to reason I'll love my Helix when I get one!
  3. It is amazing what a different pickup makes to tone. Unfortunately my debts keep me from upgrading from stock. Recently I discovered playability is from the neck itself after ordering a replacement neck to a Squire jazz bass, picked up for cheap recently due to rattling truss rod. I been blown away with the difference! . I can't afford much but will upgrade the P'ups and electrics in due course. My goal is to get it as close as I can to my mates $2,500 Fender jazz bass (LOL)which is probably about the best bass I have ever played.
  4. While an arsenal of staple ingredients are needed to cover decades of " new sound" tones, It is the creation of the the new now sound by guitar should be on any serious contender s radar. The Pods have for some time have given us great renditions of favorite analogue pedals and FX to recreate tones of yesteryear. Creation of new sounds via recombining old favs in innovative ways only gets so far. Right now fads are pitch shifting vocals, When Cher did it it was new and it is the new sound still. Sampling bits that were successful before. Most Pop is EDM based. Not as much guitar nowadays. I feel the new sounds from guitar will come from innovative software/plugin developers not so much recreating but being innovative and designing the next new thing. Perhaps this is not the realm of a guitar multi FX unit but if it sounded good and was entirely new. Why not?
  5. Really loving the tones. Luscious comes to mind
  6. There are plenty of ways to look at it; Look at it in a purely business sense; what can I spend $1500 on that will give me the best return. In other words does it make you money. Then is falls under equipment and can be a tax deduction. You could also look at it in terms of purely Artistic reasons. An Artist must have certain tools and or equipment to produce his Art. Similar to above but the return may not be as immediate, (whole album to record and produce before it is released.) A question that needs to be answered for a logical purchase is; does the Helix give you an edge on the opposition (others creating in a field that already has plenty of create in it) What about the latest sound! Does the Helix give you the next great thing? It is true, improvement or upgrades closest to source of your sound usually works out. That includes improving as a player the most. A great player can make any old thing sound good. If you add the latest sound it stands out. The next great thing usually makes it onto the charts Hip Hop Rap and EDM aaarrrhhhh. Hell has hit
  7. Great technique comes bungled in Helix! LOL Seriously fluid playing, great phrasing. Most pleasing!
  8. Bummer man, sounds like you need to take out a support ticket. In the meantime I imagine you have tried everything, reset, what about reflashing to an earlier firmware revision? Was it working fine when you first tried it out? Did you update firmware hoping this issue would handle? If so a hardware issue and as new under warranty. If not you can open up the unit and see if you can locate a soldering fault by touch various bits with static free gloves and with the power and bits connected see if you can get the cycle to rightify itself and narrow down where it is. You might be lucky and only have to just reheat a solder joint.
  9. From a Pre model to a full Amp model you are pre amping twice. Can be done on the Hd500x Simply dual Amps. Path one with pedal FX and Pre amp model, out FX send and physically cabled to aux in which has full amp model. For recording of course just preamp model with pedals before hand and into the DAW with IR loaders for cabs. Getting back to the idea scale the volume on an amp with an FX loop while it is way cleaner than the pre amp some models including some famed vintage amps got their sound driving the output stage which usually has a output transformer as well a tube stage. Peavy Revalver is an amp simulator that lets you tweak these amp stages tubes and transformers. While it is a bit of a gimmick it nevertheless enables someone who knows tube amps etc to create a wholly custom amp model. I have revalver II and I didnt go that far tweaking the component level. Who knows maybe in the near future the component level modeling is where it will be at. Meantime POD HD sounded better in detail then the Amp sims of a few years ago so where I am going with this?
  10. Much depends on the monitoring device so AB tests will need to be spot on as even as possible. You get the Stores doing reviews but at the end of the day they want to sell the product. You get new users who aren't about to invalidate their purchasing decision so things might get prejudice on some demos. Even now I have no doubts the Helix sounds better and is feature packed.and could rival Axe and KEmper. Wait and see
  11. I really like the design of the Helix, it is a worthy upgrade and I can see it getting plenty of respect from Pro Audio community as well as Professional guitarists. I would like one very much and as such will have to return to giging to justify purchasing it. LOL. A little part of me doesnt want to hear a marginal difference in sound quality from the Helix compared to the HD500.to justify not getting one for a while. If the consensus upon release is there is a vast tonal improvement , Then I'll just have to make it happen a little sooner.
  12. Been loving my HD500 and Kudos to you Line 6 on the Helix! It looks and sounds great! I always thought the Amp volume on the HD500 was integral to it's tone like a real Tube amp until I reread the manual recently. Seems my ears had me hearing and believing some interaction. But when I tried tonight to lower the input gain and increase the output gain it was as it says in the manual. Does the Helix have a modeled power amp section on the Amp models? Is there a more graduated scale of distortion in the gain? As it is with the HD500 the gain can be very touchy on some high gain models at the mid sweet spot where the slightest increment increases both gain an volume enormously then little change for a 1/5th of a turn.or so..
  13. Speaking of hitting the nail on the head. What you expect is the Gain is for gain and volume is for power amp. Not so per the manual. Volume changes wont effect your gain. Volume is just output level. I have been corrected on this a few times, I thought I could hear a change. Goes to show you ears can be fooled. This means the Amp Volume knob arent' intergral to tone and can be saved easier from patch to patch then the mixer level.
  14. You might find you might of hit the wrong mode on the looper and it appears to not work. Exact footing needed. Pressing Tuner will erase loop. Next is check where the loop block is in the chain First or last. Pre Post.
  15. I'm definitely going to get one, someday. The cost in aussie dollars is a bit prohibitive. It'l be on my wishlist for a little while until I workout how. (thinking the Sweatwater deal is a great way to go) It looks great and I can already tell sounds great, would be more than nice to have. A Must Have
  16. While it is true a professional can get good results standing on his head with one hand tied behind his back, it is always nice to have a new tube of paint. Too much choice versus one size fits all. I'd rather too much choice
  17. I missed the idea too, definitely worth a post and it is as it is in the real Amp world. Good point and one that gets overlooked.
  18. Didnt know about the PSU right angle connector, how does that work. s/pdif rca at right angles is a good idea too!
  19. It is more an observation when auditioning only the amps. Scrolling one to another. The amps are not consistent from cleans to dirty but the high gain models also are inconsistant in level. When changing patches you are only going to change the ones you have made your own and level matched. No one would go on stage without some preproduction with the unit during rehearsals etc beforehand. One great tip I got from here when I first got my HD500 was to set up templates of 3 or 4 of the amp models you want to use and level match those (I use the mixer section ) then add any common pedal FX you'd always be using on each and level match those within the FX added where possible. Then other desirable FX models with foot switch controls. What doesn't work is trying out other amp models within that patch. I find saving a preset of the FX you have without any amp in the block and mixer back to zero in its own preset no. Then add the amp, save in a new preset no. and level match that way. This way is not for everyone as it can be hard to resist returning the mixer to zero when changing amps and remembering to save to a new preset no. Dont loose old settings by saving it to the current set up. The moral: Save a bungle with plenty of user presets available. If you need more presets save bungle or set and remove Overwriting can result in lost hard won patces.
  20. Loving the cloud bass clips! Cheers
  21. LOL seriously Entertaining
  22. When the USB cable can be kicked with a foot or pet and snap off, the solution is a right angled cable with the similar idea of a guitar cable with right angled jack. Less sticking out and easier to add a Velcro fastened to the chassis. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/3Ft-USB3-0-A-Male-90-Degree-Right-Angle-to-B-Male-Left-Angle-High-Speed-Cable-1M-/251726732108?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_15&hash=item3a9c151b4c You might like an extension with that http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/New-High-Quality-3M-USB-2-0-Male-to-Female-Extend-Extention-Cable-/141701520786?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_15&hash=item20fe119d92
