  1. That's the one that I love when I hear other people play it, it just has too many moving parts for me. I've tried multiple times and can't get a tone I'm happy with. It seems like every adjustment you make on one dial effects other parts of the amp. It's kinda like trying to tune a floating bridge, if that makes sense. Love Chevelle's tone, Journey's, Petrucci, Myles Kennedy uses one, hell I think lamb of god does too. I see country and reggae guys even. All sorts of different tones, all sounding great. Yet I can't get a single usable one. Any tips? It's got to be a problem on my end.

This for sure. Loud drummers = loud stages = loud venues = bartenders that can't hear orders = unhappy owners.

    FRFR Users

I was just having this conversation the other day. Used to be owning a PA was a big deal. Huge, ungodly heavy racks of amps and effects. Gigantic heavy wood speakers. And if it was low end it sounded like you were singing through a muffler. Nowadays you can go buy a couple powered speakers, a digital mixer with all sorts of built in EQs and gates and effects, and have a really nice sounding simple PA for relatively cheap.
  4. That's about how I felt just trying to get the Helix to perform simple tasks on my DMX controller. MIDI is for smart guys, apparently.
  5. Too late, buddy. A box of tissues may not be "Kleenex" brand but if I say "pass me a Kleenex" you know what I'm saying. FRFR is synonymous with PA speaker whether you like it or not. Might as well not even bother. You'll probably end up creating even more confusion even if what you say is correct.
  6. I'd definitely use this once every never or so.
  7. Well, this thread is exactly what I expected. For some reason one of the few things that really stuck with me from college were the biases I learned about in marketing classes. If I were teaching such a class, this thread would be perfect to illustrate choice-supportive bias, placebo effect, and the bandwagon effect. I'm not going to weigh in either way on how I feel about pay-for-play patches but I will say that this thread has been quite entertaining, and also enlightening. I think one could really find new unexplored markets to exploit by simply searching for intangible qualities, such as "tone". Who would have ever thunk people would actually make good money selling patches for a guitar processor? 2016, everybody.
  8. Can I get a little help with how to do this? I have a Chauvet Obey 40, it's got a midi in port. I'm assuming I run the midi cable from the "out/through" port on the helix. I can't seem to get anything to trigger. For example, the DMX controller's manual states that blackout is assigned to midi note 126. So I go to command center, select a footswitch, and scroll to the midi section. I've tried assigning "CC#" to 126, nothing. I've tried assigning "value" as 126. Nothing. I admittedly don't know what the hell I'm doing with midi. Is there some sort of global setting I need to change? I just want to be able to trigger a few things with footswitches.
  9. That depends on your definition of "big things". B)
  10. It'll probably be like the Game of Thrones episode from last night. You let yourself get all hyped up expecting big things. Then when it turns out to be just another episode (update) you'll take to the internet to complain about it. Then the disappointment will fade, you'll realize you never meant those things you said, and you'll get all hyped for the next one. Rinse and repeat.
  11. I have a patch in which a switch is assigned to amp drive. Something like min value = 3.5 max value = 5.5. I have had a few instances of it dropping to 0 when I press the switch which essentially reduced the volume to nothing. Maybe 1 out of 100 times? Very light DSP patch too so that's not an issue. I dropped out of an AC/DC song right as I went to begin a solo during a gig. That wasn't my favorite.
  12. This horse will be dead when it gets fixed. This has been the #1 gripe I've seen since the damn thing was released. My snark tuner works better. My mustang amp works better. My boss pedal tuner works better. My old school korg tuner works better. Getting snarky with people who expect their $1500 machine to tune at least as well as a $12 clip on tuner seems like bad business to me. If you want people to stop beating the dead horse, how about giving them a time frame on when it will be fixed! Throw us a freaking bone here. If Line 6 wants to stay tight lipped about their updates that's their prerogative but I'd highly recommend taking a less aggressive and semantically charged approach to dealing with your customers' concerns. It's not like we're just jackasses looking to gripe - we paid a lot of money to be here.
