  1. Very interesting Downward Spiral era interview with some good tech-talk here: http://nothing.nin.net/int20.html “Another thing I'll sometimes do is play the guitars twice as fast as the song's tempo, recording them at 30 ips [inches-per-second] on the multitrack. Then I'll slow it down to 15 ips. I'll play the part an octave high, too, so when I slow it down, it's in the right register and at the right speed. But if you saturate the tape real hard when you record it at 30 ips, it takes on a really clear, thick, warm, and bizarre quality when you slow it down. The guitar on "Suck" [Broken]--which I think is the best guitar sound I've ever gotten--was done that way” I don’t think Helix has a block for that, haha!
  2. Only one way to find out!
  3. Figuring out the recipe will take some trial and error I’m sure, it’s a pretty unorthodox tone, but yes I think Helix can handle it once you figure out what “it” is. I’d play with it myself but I’m traveling for work and don’t have access to my gear. Do share if you land on something good!
  4. Supreme Executive Power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony.
  5. I think you are on the right track avoiding a traditional amp and cab, as Trent Reznor often recorded direct to the console. I remember reading in an interview that he wasn’t happy with guitar sounds until they barely sounded like guitars any more. I’m not at my Helix to play around with it, but I think even dropping the preamp and replacing it with a dirt or fuzz pedal and then manipulating with a post eq would be where I’d start. As an aside, man what a great album that is. It was my introduction to NIN and it hit me like a ton of bricks.
  6. Oh yes. Beetronics dropped The Swarm and it’s making my heart palpatate just thinking about it...
  7. I see that I am not the only one who has found that reducing the mix to around 75% is the key to the Helix wahs.... I concur with the other fellas!
  8. Just to provide a counterpoint, Fender is EXACTLY what I think of for a great rock sound. Exhibit A would be Neil Young’s rig... I currently use the Helix Deluxe Reverb almost exclusively, because it can do pretty much anything, but I’m pretty stoked about the Tweed Deluxe in 2.8.... I’m not at my Helix right now but to get good rock tones with the Deluxe Reverb with my Strat, I dial the master back a bit to 9 or so, Drive to 4-5 I think, and a Teemah in front. Stacking the Teemah with a Minotaur in front of it gets pretty rowdy. This is with pretty low output Strat pickups that I wound myself for it, sub-6k.
  9. What a first date! I’d have given a kidney to have been at that show.
  10. At the crossroads of Milla and music, you’ll find Puscifer. At least for one song. I’ve seen them twice, but never with Milla. I’d imagine it would be memorable.
  11. I too carried a torch for Leeloo. It is a great movie! I apologize in advance if that scene reminds you of this thread now, I know I’ll probably chuckle next time I watch it.
  12. Nope, this thread is pretty special. One day Leeloo will use it to better understand humanity and it will make her sad.
  13. My apologies for the confusion. This thread is a complicated case: lotta ins, lotta outs, lotta what-have-yous. Only just now do I realize that that also describes Helix......
  14. It’d be swell and all, but I think you’re setting yourself up for a self-induced heartbreak by interpreting “in about two weeks or so” as a hard date. But that’s just me.
  15. Ain’t got no crystal ball?
  16. Duty calls once again, glad the update didn’t come out yet lest I be distracted from my appointed tasks! DI and company, if you can keep the lid on this update for another couple of weeks I ‘d sure appreciate it. Thanks!
  17. Big Sky blew my mind. I have to agree that it is in a different league from the Helix reverbs. Not that it should be surprising, Big Sky has around half the DSP that Helix has and can dedicate it all to a single effect, it should stand apart! While I have been pretty happy with the delays in Helix, I look forward to diving into TimeLine and seeing what it can do. I use a lot of reverb and delay effects, so moving these resource intensive functions out of Helix will also free up a lot of DSP for things like multiple amps without sacrificing my goodies...
  18. Sounds like you’ve mede your decision, but just to add my contribution: I have two of these Hosa cables, good price and good quality. Hosa HMIC-010 REAN XLR3F to XLR3M Pro Microphone Cable, 10 Feet https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004TPDBGC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_N2nhDbVP217GE
  19. Know what’s on my mind? I just sold my Atomic CLR (which was replaced by a pair of PowerCab+ cabs) and purchased a Strymon TimeLine to go along with my Big Sky. It will be here Friday. I’m pretty excited. That’s what’s on my mind.
  20. Just to add another option, I have found I prefer the stereo image created by running a single amp and cab/IR, and then running all stereo modulation/delay/reverb after the cab. My current configuration goes guitar in -> Drive pedals in Helix -> Amp -> IR -> stereo modulation -> stereo delay -> stereo FX Loop out -> Strymon Big Sky -> Stereo FX Loop return -> L/R XLR out to two PowerCab+ cabinets. I don’t think Stomp has FX Loops, but if you are not needing to bring the signal back for headphone monitoring or recording then the 1/4” outputs would work and you could then run the outputs of your stereo pedals to your two monitors. This would save you some blocks as you could run an Amp+Cab block if you were so inclined. Of course if you do need to bring it all back in for those reasons, it sounds like a full Helix might be calling your name!
  21. My friend’s Helix was at rock bottom, loading black market firmware updates, sharing DSP, and now it has a model of AIDS.....
  22. That 2ms of latency is the same that you would experience by moving a few feet further away from your amp. An absolute non-issue for your band mates or your audience.
  23. I think the real question here is: will 2.8 be out before the new Tool album?
