  1. Hey guys, I've been playing my helix thru a Mixer -> Tannoy 802's monitors. Absolutely love it. However I wanted to convert to a live rig using a guitar cab. I have powered speakers but wanted to give this a shot and see how I like it. Passive pickups -> Helix rack -> Art Sla-1 -> 2x12 cab loaded with G12T-75's Any pointers on settings or adjustments I should make? I realize I won't get the same tone as my monitors and also I will need to eliminate the cab impulses. I'll be starting from scratch so I won't be adding the cab's anyways. I also understand ohms and how to connect all the wiring. Going with a stereo setup, the cab has single connectors for each speaker. Thanks!

    lollipop!

lollipoped sorry had to test it out
  3. I use a send out to a tuner... that's it though.
  4. If someone spilled a Guinness on your sons board someone should be held responsible for spilling the beer!! How dare they spill a Guinness!!!!!
  5. Just wanted to add that this issue is for Soldano Amps and circuit boards. For whatever reason they put the tone block after the effects loop. The Jetcity was designed by Soldano and uses a similar setup.
  6. Hey guys! Last night I finally got around to using a guitar amp and cab to run the Helix. Guitar into Helix with instrument cable, Helix 1/4" out set to instrument level, instrument cable into the effects return of the Jca50h amp. Using a Jetcity JCA24s+ 2x12 cab. A couple things happened. Apparently the EQ/Presence is just before the power amp section, after the effects loop. Which kind of sucks, maybe that's normal but I was unaware that it would happen. So essentially I had two sets of EQ's to use, one for the amp inside Helix and one for the power amp section. I found my best results to leave the power amp EQ at halfway, 5 out of 10 on my amp for bass mid and treble. Then set the EQ on the preamp to get my tone. But nothing felt perfect. It still felt like I needed to keep making adjustments on both EQ's. My questions - is it normal for the EQ on an amp to be just before the power section? I thought it adjusted the preamp section. - What are you guys doing for your EQ settings when using a guitar amp to power a guitar cab? - Any other pointers for going this route? Prior to this I have been using Tanoy 802's for home use, and Peavey PVX12p's for live playing.
  7. I read somewhere that the usb being connected to a PC causes some crashes, so I unplugged my cable and haven't had any issues since.
  8. I have the Peavey PVX12p (x2), I read a ton of great reviews and decided to give them a shot to save some money. I don't regret it one bit. I don't have experience with other speakers for comparison but these things haven't let me down and they rock out. Plus the name Peavey just sounds like rock n roll, compared to QSC or Yamaha... dump point I know.
  9. Haven't used that, but for the same price a couple powered monitors would do nicely, or one 12" Alto powered speaker.
  10. To me some of the colors appear more vibrant than others. Try changing the color of the preset and see if it changes. You may have a bad light.
  11. Take some lessons, I played for 15 years but then in the last year I learned more than I ever have from lessons. Cleaned up bad habits, learned what a real practice schedule is. My playing has sky rocketed from my daily routines.
  12. I can't stand headphones. I use a mixer with two 8" studio monitors, Tannoy Reveal. I can play extremely low at all hours of the night. I did have some angled metal plates made with some monitor pads and placed the speakers on the floor aimed up at me. I think it does well to hit the sweet spot a few feet away. Pads we're about 30$ and had the angled plate made in our shop, I work for a sheet metal shop.
  13. I use the Mission SP-1 L6 Helix pedal for my wah, and use a Boss EV-500h for my volume. I use the boss because I owned it prior to buying the helix. They seem to work just fine.
  14. I enjoy reading reviews and comments from people who own the systems they review. Before I bought my helix I was set on a new Ax fx II. Then my girlfriend was like how much is it, why do you need it, etc etc. So I settled on getting the rack and controller. Piecing it out so it wasn't as big of a hit to my wallet. So she was happy that I went the cheaper route. All I can say is I'm in love. 100% recommend the helix! I'm sure I would have loved the Ax FX as well, but I guess I'll never know :)
  15. I chose the rack/controller because I didn't want the brains of the unit built into the board that my fat lollipop steps on. Would rather just replace the controller then deal with fixing the unit as a whole when problems arise.
  16. I prefer the stock cabs simply because it's easy and "free", meaning I'm not spending money for IR's. They sound amazing to me.
  17. It appears the MG10U doesn't have the USB interface, I bought the MG10xu specifically for that purpose. Cubase is fine, I don't use the special effects at all. I've messed with them but never really had much interest in that.
  18. Does the MG10XU affect the Helix output tone noticeably? Not that I'm aware of but I haven't really tested it out. I run the mixer into 2x Tannoy 802's and it sounds great. But I imagine it sounds similar to running into a PA, so results should be similar to that. Essentially its Helix-> mixer-> powered speakers
  19. I do exactly what you are describing. I use the Yamaha MG10XU. You don't need a mixer but here is why I prefer it. I love playing to jam tracks on youtube. With the mixer I have one channel for the pc output, which lets me EQ the jamtrack, usually cutting some bass because I have to play quietly most of the time. But it also lets me quickly adjust the volume via the mixer instead of doing it thru the pc. Not all youtube videos are created equally. For me it makes everything easy to use and at the tip of my fingers.
  20. Try selling it on Craigslist. GC is terrible with trade in value. They take the lowest sold items on ebay and give you 60% of that price. Most ebay listings are about 60% of retail, so your going to get roughly 30% of retail for trade in. You could probably get 50% from selling it yourself. Of course it will take some time and effort.
  21. I signed up for the free IR, but I haven't seen an email with the download link. yes i checked the junk folder...
  22. Its the Korg pitchblack rack tuner, one of the newer versions. It's not that I need it to be very accurate, I just prefer to have a tuner on when I play. Its a preference thing, not that I need it, just something I like.
  23. Ya, reading both of the responses it really just shows how new I am to Helix and amp modeling. I love it and have some awesome tones already but it seems like this is going to be an ongoing learning process.
