  1. In a pinch, you might be able to remove the shell from one end of your new cable to use it with the USB adapter. Your guitar should have come with the proper cable that works with the USB adapter.
  2. I work with Flash based devices in my day job so I know how "flashing" works. In many designs, there is a window where the flash is erased and the new code is not written to it. In some designs, this is where you cannot lose power. Good designs avoid this but many don't.
  3. We shall see but I do not expect much. I will be very surprised if the JTV owners find this guitar is as good as what they already have.
  4. If you bought it used, I would reflash it for sure to start from factory settings. Then if it doesn't work, you may have been ripped off. You need to hook up the USB interface to flash it from your PC. That is the only way to put it back to factory settings. IT sounds like your electronics work somewhat so this should work for you.
  5. Well designed processor systems can be recovered from "bricking". Most are not completely protected - if they lose power at the right time, the flash may be erased and the new code may not be in place. I always hold my breath when I update flash based stuff like my Pod and my Variax. I do not do it often. I have not rolled my JTV back but I have updated it to the latest version.
  6. You could try turning the piezo around. I assume it's breaking at the bridge?
  7. Battery works great. Music stores tend to ignore these things since most guitars don't require a battery.
  8. If it was a factory preset, I have seen the bundle posted here somewhere. Search for it.
  9. I don't see how adding a feature like Global EQ can reduce the DSP overhead. (Unless you replace an existing EQ or other Effect)
  10. They both do the same job but the black dongle does not seem to work all that well. The older one has been around since the early versions of Variax and it is pretty reliable. I have one of each and they both work for me. The Black dongle one came with my JTV 69S. The other one I got when I bought Workbench for my 500. I don't use either one now because it's much easier to connect with my Pod HD500x which also works as a USB interface to the Variax.
  11. It would be nice if they let you resize the window to full screen. Most modern monitors only work properly on one resolution so that is not a good option to change the size of the window.
  12. I use two XLR cables from my pod to my Powered PA speaker but you can get by with 1 and pan everything to that channel.
  13. I would suspect the USB interface. They are garbage. Many of them do not work. I would work with Line6 to get a replacement. Your guitar is probably fine.
  14. If it also goes away when you don't plug in the USB then it's a ground loop.
  15. My concern would be how they hit the price point. The JTV's are too expensive to get the volume up where they need it to be. Since the electronics cost is fixed, the only to hit a lower price point is to take cost out of the guitar itself.
  16. The cleanest (lowest noise) form of power is the Battery. No ground loops. Invest in a second battery if you are afraid of running out at a critical point. If you play at home only, just charge it when it gets low. It should last years if you don't abuse it.
  17. Yes it should come with the USB interface needed to run Workbench. It should have also come with a digital cable to connect it to that interface.
  18. You need a TRS cable to use the external power supply. The battery is just fine especially for home use. It lasts a good 6 to 8 hours. I prefer the battery to the external power supply. I use the VDI (digital interface) cable and my Pod HD500x most of the time. The digital interface cable when hooked to the Pod powers the guitar. I use the battery when I play through my other amps. There are four led's on the battery box that tell you the state of charge of the battery.
  19. This is what is called a Ground Loop. Try plugging everything into the same power strip. Sometimes it is not possible to completely eliminate this. The problem is that the PC Ground is very noisy and the USB cable is grounded to your PC and to the Pod. I tried a USB isolator but it doesn't work with the Pod. There are some threads here showing how to eliminate the problem using a ground isolator between the Pod and your Amp. There is nothing wrong with your Pod so do not try to get it fixed.
  20. I've had that problem and I can always find something not set up for my inputs.
  21. IMO Elixir strings are not as bright as uncoated ones. I think that is maybe a plus on a Variax. They squeak less when you run your fingers over them.
  22. When I bought my JTV69S from Sweetwater, there had just been a big FW update. I asked them to update it for me so I did not have to risk that going bad. They did so and when I received it the FW was updated to 2.0 and the guitar was in excellent playing condition. Not perfect but it only needed a bit of tweaking on the Low E and A at the bridge to eliminate a slight string buzz. I will use them again the next time I purchase a guitar.
  23. If you got it to be loud sometimes, it is either a short or a bad connection between the analog output and the 1/4 inch Jack. Since the VDI works, the rest of the electronics are working. I would take a careful look yourself. Trace the wires from the 1/4 jack to the board and see if you can see anything wrong. Make sure there is not a short to the battery connection at the 1/4 jack since that's what powers up the electronics when you plug into the jack. It sounds like you have had it apart before so you know how to do that. There have been problems with shorts around the shielding. (I believe you have a 600 if I remember correctly) I don't have a 600 but I have had my 500 completely apart a couple times.
