  1. That is book I also recommend. Very good setup details. I learned a lot from that book.
  2. Get yourself a good book on how to set up your guitar. Slotting nuts is tricky and it has to be done correctly or you get bad results.
  3. I do not trust the tuner on my Pod. I use my Peterson tuner plugged into the pod. The locking tuners on my JTV69S are great. It is easy to tune. I don't use the wammy but the trem is still floating. New strings and intonation are required when you purchase any guitar. I have not had one yet that was to my tuning standards out of the box or out of the guitar store.
  4. Sounds like that guy was a hack! Learn to do it yourself is my advice. I had some buzz on the Low E and A when I got my 69S. I just raised the saddles slightly on those strings. Buzz is bad with modeling. If you replace the nut, you need to get the string spacing right. Not sure if you can get one that matches the original but if not, you have to make your own from a blank.
  5. Your guitar needs to be in good tune at standard tuning. All tuning is relative to the correct string tuning.
  6. If you have a pod with VDI (HD500, HD500X) you can control the tuning and model selection from the Pod. You can also switch between Mags and Modeling.
  7. Drag and drop from Windows Explorer to HD Edit works fine for me.
  8. Raise the action at the bridge on those strings. I had to do that on mine when I first got it. The Low E and A were too low at the bridge. Easy adjustment.
  9. Guess what. Line6 gets to set the price. :) We get to decide to buy it or not. That's the way it's supposed to be.
  10. My 69S has Open G as one of the selectable alternate tunings. Yours should too.
  11. If they were to offer the "guts", I am sure that they would only do so to "approved" companies not to individuals. The problems they would create with inexperienced people would drive them nuts and not produce enough revenue to be worth the trouble.
  12. What kind of headphones? I had this problem on my X3Live with noise cancelling headphones. It went away when I turned off the noise cancelling and it's not there with my other passive headphones.
  13. It sounds like your model select knob has shifted. I doubt that it is related to plugging it into your friends XTL. The knob is actually a pot with detents that creates a voltage that is read by an A/D in the Variax electronics. If the pot shifted relative to the detent somehow, then the models selected can be wrong.
  14. I understand these difficult tradeoffs that must be made when developing a product. I suspect that the JTV is too high priced to generate the volumes that Line6 needs to sustain it as a viable product. (Just my own suspicion not backed up with any data!)
  15. I would not expect better build quality at that price point. The JTV build quality is very good IMO. My JTV 69S is every bit as good as my American Strat build wise.
  16. Sounds like they are aiming for a lower price point than the JTV's. Not what I would want. I want a real quality guitar. It's hard to beat the JTV 69S prices out there now but maybe Line6 isn't making any $$ on them.
  17. Sounds like you had a Ground loop that messed up the USB connection. Best solution is don't plug the lead into anything when using the USB interface. It's purpose is to turn on the JTV electronics.
  18. Neck and Scale Length make a big difference and everyone has their own taste. That's why we need the different guitar models even though they have the exact same DSP generated models.
  19. It only needs a very small amount of adhesive since it's held in place by the strings also.
  20. I hate mail in rebates. Companies that do this always take their sweet time sending you your money. I try not to even factor them into my buying decisions.
  21. Since the processing electronics are different in the signal path, I am not surprised that there is a gain difference between the analog 1/4 inch out and the VDI. I never use both at the same time so I have never really noticed it on my 500 or on my JTV69S. In the case of the Mag pickups, the 1/4 inch out is passive right from the pickups and the VDI is always active since it's digital.
  22. Bad Advice! You need an AC supply for the X3. Most supplies out there are DC! Make sure you get a supply that is made for the X3.
  23. My point exactly. I trust my own skills far more than most "authorized dealers". Sure there are some good ones but how many have really been trained and have the skills that psarkissian has. I do not doubt for a second that he would do a great job diagnosing setup problems but I bet most shops don't really have those special "Variax" setup skills. That is a much different skill set than swapping out components until the problem is solved that you find at many repair shops.
