  1. A switch is a switch but you need to know how many contacts it has on the back. It's a three position switch. If you elect to mess with it you will void the guarantee if you care about that kind of thing. It looks nice the way it is so I am not sure I would fool with that kind of cosmetic change.
  2. You can plug the pod into any bass amp.
  3. If you always play with your strings tuned down 1/2 step I would tune your JTV that way too. The advantage of this is that your mag pickups will be making the same notes as the models so that you can switch between or blend them. If you use the alternate tuning to tune down 1/2 step, the Mags won't be in tune and you won't be able to use them.
  4. Guitar output impedance is a combination of the Pickup impedance and the cable impedance. The cable is capacitive. The pickup is resistive and inductive. The combination affects the frequency response of the pickups and shapes the tone. There is no "right" value. Just play with it until you like the tone you are getting.
  5. Send it back for a replacement. Sounds like it has a hardware problem.
  6. Shouldn't do that. Return it for a replacement. These guitars are great when you get a good one!
  7. Pod support - which we all want - isn't a bug but a lack of a feature.
  8. I would suspect that a nut designed for a Strat would be right. That's what I used on my 500. I use an Earvana nut.
  9. I really like locking tuners even though I am not a big trem user. Makes changing strings a snap. The Planet Waves tuners even trim the string for you. I have those on my Variax 500. The locking tuners that came on my JTV69S seem fine but I have not changed strings on it yet. It's about due though.
  10. Line to Amp should solve the clipping distortion problem.
  11. You also need a Variax VDI cable that connects the JTV to the little black box! It should have come with your guitar. It is a cat5 cable with a special end on the Variax end. The black box is your USB interface that you use to connect to your computer's usb port. You are missing the VDI calbe though.
  12. You get what you pay for! I like the Planet Waves Locking Tuners. Have them on my Variax 500.
  13. HD400 does not support a digital Variax connection. You have to use a standard guitar cable.
  14. You can mix with alternate tunings that are in harmony like a 5th. Sounds cool.
  15. You certainly should get good sounds through your AMP or Stereo if you have the output mode set correctly.
  16. Sounds like you have a problem with either the VDI jack or the VDI cable. Yes a new cable could be defective.
  17. I think that expecting the JTV to switch models totally cleanly while playing isn't realistic.
  18. I strongly recommend that you go try one before buying since you seem to know what you like.
  19. I do notice quite a nasty sound when I switch models without muting the strings. My old 500 did not do this except when switching to Acoustic it did pop sometimes. (usually the first time after powering up)
  20. I have really small hands so the slim neck at the nut on the 69 is great for me. It is slightly thinner then my Strat but the width is the same as my Strat.
  21. I have installed Earvana nuts on several of my guitars and I like them. They are easily reversible and I think they really improve the notes fretted close to the nut. One difference with Earvana is that you do not have to change the tuning - where you do with the Feiten system.
