If all you are doing is changing the delay setting, you can use a snapshot or a footswitch assignment to do that... Sure I'm stating the obvious, but wanted to make sure.
-
This is more of a question than disputing your answer rd2rk. Using the snapshot would work great, however depending on how you have things setup, your other blocks may be affected by the change in the snapshot. You could instead assign a footswitch to the block and have it bypass one or the other based on if its on or off. This way would definitely not change the other blocks (unless you want it to). Just another option I believe.

Should I Upgrade My Setup to FRFR or Stick with My Current Rig?
PaulTBaker replied to overstreet1995's topic in POD HD
if you gig, another consideration is ease of setup and use. depending on your use, you can get some very good FRFR's that are small, light, and easy to setup. For me, that is a big priority. For example, in one band I'm playing in, the other (very good) guitarist plays through a marshall jmp 60 and a 4 12 cab. sounds good, but is heavy and hard to transport. He recently changed to a tsakils mothership and an frfr. way easier to transport and more flexible in the practice space. I tried to sell him on the helix, but it just had too many options for him. he just wants to plug and play. -
HX Stomp assignment - toggle between FX1 / FX2 / bypass per switch
PaulTBaker replied to multivir's topic in Helix
no, but you can do something different. you can setup snapshots and assign them to the footswitches and have it so clicking the footswitch would cycle between snaps. I know that is not what you are asking, but it might give you something else to think about. I agree, that the 3 way footswitch would be cool! -
crackling sounds using presets created with Helix Floor
PaulTBaker replied to PaulTBaker's topic in Helix Native
Thank you all for your great responses! You guys do a great service for this community. I use the XR18 as my interface because I have been using it. (I know, let's don't get to the discussion of "because I've always done it that way" HAHA). I have used the XR18 to record live band recordings and it can record up to 18 channels simultaneously. I have successfully used the helix into the XR18 to record. That uses the presets on the helix. I use the Relay 10S (?) and use the direct out to another XR18 channel. That is the "raw" channel that gets recorded in case I want to reamp with Native. It is the reamping (if I'm saying that correctly) with Native that was causing the crackling. Thank you for the settings info, I will see what I have and try those if they are different, and Data, yes I do have the correct Berhinger drivers loaded. Something to add to my question of could the amount of "stuff" in the preset pushing the limits of my computer.... I read in another thread where in Native, depending on the power of the computer, you could actually use more DSP than what is in Helix. That makes sense. So, to me, it would also make sense that if the power of the computer is limited, that could cause problems with Heavy DSP presets coming from Floor being used in Native. Again, thanks everyone for the advice! -
I am a beginner in working with DAW's (Reaper 7) and just started using Helix Native. I have been using Line 6stuff since the early pod days, then the HD500X, and now Helix for almost as long as it has been out. So I feel confident using Helix, the DAW and Native, not so much. To complete my workflow, I am using the Berhinger XR18 as my interface and have Adam Audio TV5 (?) studio monitors coming out of the XR18. Also a Dell Precision 7520 32GB of RAM. In Native, I am using a preset that was created in the helix floor. It is pretty loaded because it is meant to be a "catch all" preset. When I use the preset, I will get crackling sounds (almost like clipping). Lowering the levels does not seem to help, however, deleting some of the block in the preset does or at least it seems that way. Am I correct in thinking that the preset may be too "full" and over reaching the capacity of my workspace? I am very interested in everyone's thoughts on this. Thanks.

Helix in 2021, Just For Fun. What's Your Favorite Amp Sim?
PaulTBaker replied to mattbarden's topic in Helix
wow, what a great topic and really cool posts! -
try the new clarity amp... it has a great clean base with lots of headroom before breaking up. I've been using that with a combination of stacking three od pedal (minatour, teemah, horzin drive or teemal, compulus drive, and horiz drive or prize drive, teemah, and horiz).... that gives me a great range of crunch, drive, big drive to sit on top of the clean tone. then use l2 comp at the end, with it doing less the -3db comp. (that may be the wrong units, but the gist is to just barely have the compressor catching anything) This works well my Yamaha 300(?) again, sorry if that model is wrong, it is the hollow body with the P90's on it. Good luck and have fun!

Agreed, adjust your presets so the presets are all close to the same output level from the helix. Would suggest using something like Youlean Loudness Meter - Free VST, AU and AAX plugin. I have mine set so it averages -18 to -15 db for each preset. then no matter what the big knob is set too, the output of each preset will be relative. When I play with the band and use my PC, I have it connected to the helix using the l6 connection. I then have the big knob at digital. The FOH gets the signal from the xlr's. This way the FOH is getting the signal as if the big know was always maxed. This lets me use the big knob to control the onstage volume for the PC. When I play as a duo, we use the Bose L1 (i think)and I do not use the PC. I have my big knob set to multi, so the big knob WILL effect what is being sent to the FOH (which is the bose behind me in this case). This lets me give myself a boost if needed without changing the mixer.

Big volume difference between Helix LT and Stomp XL
PaulTBaker replied to badgerbaj's topic in Helix
that really sounds like you may have the LT outputs to Line or digital and your XL outputs set to mic. -
Wow, lots of really good comments here. Thanks. Just following up. So it sounds like there may have been slight differences and it was ALL in my head..... however, the bottom line is I am very very happy with what I have now. I absolutely love it. Just for background if anyone is interested, I play mainly my tele and can go from very clean to dirty clean to crunchy to more hairy overdrive (not metal but more warm bluesy full overdriven state). I used to use the Zed amp as a base and then have 3 stomps (one to up the amp drive and adjust volume, the Minataur(sp?), and either the Temo or the Compul drive. with the latest update, I started using the Clarity as a starting point. It is really clean and has a ton of headroom and stays clean. I then use combinations of stacking the Prize Drive, the Teemah! and the Horizon Drive to get the different levels of overdrive I need. it is great! at least for me! I also use snapshots to switch between modulation effects: Chorus, Trem, 145 Rotary, Script Mod Phase, and no modulation. I have those 5 snaps assigned to one footswitch so I can roll through each of those and turn on the one I need. I also have a snapshot that I use for spacey sounds which turns on the chorus, delay, and another reverb. I used the command center to assign that to a foot switch that rotated between the spacy and the clean. Unchecking the snapshot option on the drives and amp lets me keep my tone the same no matter the other snapshots. I am sure there are improvements, but this works great for me now and gives me a ton of options. Clar PzTH DD C .hlx

Don't know if the pod go has the new Clarion amp, but I use that with my helix for my Acoustic guitar. The Clarion if very clean and has a ton of gain but keeps it clean.

I know this is an old post, but what type of toppers are you using?

Equal Loudness Countour (ISO 226 / Flectcher Munsen Curves) Suggestion
PaulTBaker replied to danmarell's topic in Helix
Yes, that would be nice. Be quite complicated to implement. There have been many posts on the Fletcher Munson effect on this board, some go dig deep into the science, which is very interesting to me. Some people posted an EQ block they created to "similate" the FM effect. they would turn it on when playing softly, off when loud. I tweaked the block some and used it for a while and it did help in creating patches that sounded good at "live" volume. -
Crackling at higher volumes with PC and Stomp XL It's Back.......
PaulTBaker replied to rwinking's topic in Powercab
this is the screen I was talking about. You get to it when you click on the last output block in hxedit. -
I believe it also may have something to do with the global snapshot settings (Recall, or discard). I you have it set to recall (you may want to check the manual to make sure I don't have it backwards), then when you go to the snapshot, it will recall whatever settings you had when you saved the snapshot. So if you had the delay on and save the snapshot, every time you engage that snapshot, the delay will be on. If you have it set to discard, then it will discard the settings from the last save and return whatever settings you had while in the snapshot... so if you turned the delay off, then when you engage the snapshot again, the delay will be off. Again, check me on this! the snapshot bypass for each block is something different. lets say you have an OD block and you uncheck the snapshot bypass on that block. Then that block will ignore any snapshot settings and always be on/off depending on you stomping on it. So again, if you have the OD block unchecked, and you turn it on. when you go to the delay snapshot, the drive will still be on.... if you go to another snapshot, the drive will STILL be on until you turn it off. At least that is my understanding of this. Hope it helps! or at least gets people to engage and yell at me for getting it backwards ;)!

Thank you ALL!

The big knob on my helix floor is now wabbly, and not really working correctly. There are NO line6 repair centers near Cary NC! Anybody else have this problem? Did you find a solution, other than sending it back to get fixed? Thanks!

Crackling at higher volumes with PC and Stomp XL It's Back.......
PaulTBaker replied to rwinking's topic in Powercab
I know you said it is not this, but that really sounds like digital clipping, since you can turn down the volume and it goes away. What do you have the volume going to the PC set too? Sorry, don't know the exact name, but if you have HXedit, go to the very last block (the output) and click on the Power Cab settings, you see the volume (?) down below. The default volume for some speakers is very low.... maybe you have it very low and it makes you have to drive your device too much. Try setting the PC volume louder here. Also, what are you using on the PC, a set speaker or the FRFR, etc.... Does changing that make a difference? If you try this, take note of the volume changes between speakers and settings, that change may be what you need on the speaker you are using now. Good luck! I am with you that it is totally awesome to go to a gig with a 112PC+ and StompXL.... ahhhhhh , makes my back smile :) -
Sorry, did not see this was for Native. On Floor (which I know may not help you) the options are Discard and Recall. Setting it to Recall, brings back the original settings when saved. Discard brings back the settings from the last time the snapshot was used.
-
you may want to check the snapshot setting on the global page (?) that determines the behavior of the snapshot when returning to it. I can't remember the names, but one is recall and the other is ???. one of them will return to the settings of when the snapshot was saved. It could be that you had your wah on when you saved it. Then with the specific setting chosen, returning to the snapshot will turn the wah on (because that's how it was saved). As others say (which I mildly hate), read the manual for the correct settings. look some where in the global settings for snapshots. good luck

Is it possible to configure a Helix Floor button for "long press'?
PaulTBaker replied to ajwain's topic in Helix
Don't think you can do this. I do like your idea.... it would basically give us 20 buttons instead of 10.... and I would think that could be a software change. They have a "momentary" option for the FS , which means the effect (or whatever) for that FS is on only while you are pressing down the button. But I don't think the FS can have momentary and and on/off assignment.
