Drat! Thanks for the info. -
Anyone know if that's possible? I'm away from my computer to try for myself. Curious if anyone here knows or not. thanks

Anyone using 09s or 08s on their JTV?
fr0sty replied to XCrossroadsX2000's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
I normally use 9's and they seem a bit better with the alt tunings than 10's. -
v 2.x update (JTV-69S)
fr0sty replied to blouie's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
I would fiddle with the models in the work bench and see if you can tweak them to your liking. If that doesn't work, the reload the old 1.8. Some folks don't like the 2.x firmware and from you description of those tones. you are one of them. -
Just curious. It's been quite some time since anything new/updated had been offered.

Latest Jtv Transplant Is Done

Love the flame! -
Good news for jtv owners, I suspect. Hopefully there will be future firmware updates.

I'd be all for that, as long as l6 could pull it off. Many here may think they sound cheesy, but there is a huge commercial application for them. Listen to 75% of any commercial you hear on tv these days. It's Ukes, glockenspiels and hand claps. They pay the bills!

(All) JTV Models Needs a Big Improvement
fr0sty replied to anto99's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
The banjo and sitar models are standouts for me. I have noticed that the modeled guitars, in general, sound better through amp farm than my actual amps. I wonder if they relied on line 6 amp modeling when developing the varaix, or if actual amps were used too? -
[Solution] Ghost notes?
fr0sty replied to The_Fiddler's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Plus I'm not sure why anything behind the nut would affect fretted notes. -

I think it may be physical also. I can almost convince myself I hear the oddity, ever so slightly, when the guitar isn't plugged in. I may be fooling myself though :) -

Bummer, my strings were already wound very minimally... -

I agree with the OP for the most part and second what katiekerry said. When playing my amps live, the variax tones by and large ho hum. Not all, but most. Same with the alt tuning, but that is slightly worse for me than ho hum. My main reason for buying the variax was to recording. That that regard, it's much more usable for me. The only time I use the variax is for recording. When playing for pleasure, my other magnetic pickup guitars always get chosen. -
What brand and gauge string come on the jtv-69?
fr0sty replied to fr0sty's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD

That has been my experience also. I found that switch from 9's to 10's made the problem noticeable on both the E and A strings. I plan on trying 8's to see what that does. I would also add that in addition to the initial attack ghost note, I can also hear a pulsing over the main note as the string rings out. Different turnings exhibit a different speed to the pulse. edit to add I see you mention the same thing with the "waves".

JTV59 JTV69 v2.1 SEMI-5 Comparison
fr0sty replied to edstar1960's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
I assume the 69 is the second? In any case, it sounds a hair brighter to me than the first one. -
They still can sound good :) The rhythm guitars are a custom one I did with the neutral body with the 89 bridge pickup. The lead and center panned guitar is the lester bridge. Tuning was drop d. https://soundcloud.com/project-dome/wrectum-killedem

I was fiddling with my 69 last night and was switching between position 4 on the spank model (v2.1) as well as the mag pickups. I find it hard to believe (although some clearly do) anyone would prefer the spank model over the mag pickups. The spank model has almost none of the standard quack (played clean) that I and most people expect from strat pickups.
