Its a struggle but I am getting out of hell! I might be a good guy after all!

I am reserving judgement at this point. I am hoping the FRFR capabilities will be good enough that I won't need the DT... It will make my rig so much easier to lug around... That said, the abilities are all still there with minor workarounds. Just use a midi cable with the L6 link. I couldn't care less about the configuration stuff for multiple DT's since that will never affect me but if you are one of the few that really use that, I can see it being a disappointment. The routing choices and the 8X8 USB are exciting. If things pan out I anticipate not needing a mixer anymore, being able to play a track in a DAW on my laptop sending stereo to the main outs on the Helix while also sending a click track to a separate path with the guitar being fed to both the click track and the main outs. That gives the full signal to the PA and sends me a personal mix for my in ears using a Helix FX send. Hopefully be able to record the whole thing at the same time with no other connections too. And I can create templates to make it all so much easier to setup.

Geez, that Elantric dude really HATES Line 6. Completely destroys and marginalizes Helix off the ad and the "harsh, brittle"tones in the demo vid... totally laughable but I'm sure he is a legend in his own mind...

Yeah, I truly hope so. As good as the Advanced Guide was for the HD500, there were still so many unanswered questions about how things worked and NEVER any clarification from Line 6 for whatever reason. I really hope since this is really geared towards the touring musician and recording professionals that they would offer a complete operations manual rather than just a frigging Pilot's Guide... unless this comes with wings of course... :)

One would hope but in the FAQ he says the only thing it comes with is a single page cut sheet... who knows? Firehawk and Amplifi didn't get any sort of serious manuals...

Meambobbo gives this subject a good read. There are various phase differences between cabinets that can be compensated with different effects or mics. What you are referring to is the 0-180 switch in the vintage pre. Basically that gives a complete reversal of phase for the path it is applied to. It does not provide the incremental phase corrections Meambobbo describes but it can be useful in certain situations. Sometimes you just have to try it and listen although there are advanced techniques for measuring phase you can do within a DAW if really needed.

everything has a DSP limit. With dual processors it seems you are much less likely to run into the problem in normal use. However, D.I. does state that with 4 parallel paths and 32 FX blocks it is possible. If you really think that is a reason not to buy it then I don't know what to tell you...

A few more questions for the FAQ: 1. how many AD/DA converters in the Helix and what are the specs? 2. is there a list of cabs and mics for Helix? are they all new models? 3. can the looper be time synced to external gear or a DAW?

all good points. All I am saying is the only time this unit could be true bypass is if you were not using anything in it. In that case I don't understand why you would want to spend that kind of money for this piece of gear. True bypass only makes sense to me for single effects so that when you turn them off, the signal bypasses rather than still going through the off circuits. The signal has to go through at least two AD converters to use any part of Helix so as I said above, the real question is whether the unit introduces any tone suck when connected.

Absolutely. They already said that was the workaround for launch but at least intimated that more L6 link compatibility could come down the road. I think someone already said they were using the midi to change their DT and it was flawless. Sadly, I have a feeling that these new models will eliminate the need for a DT... Just so much more you can do when not tied to a guitar amp...
