  1. if I understand correctly, tone matching matches up the song you want against a database of created patches. Helix is a new OS and there are no patches to match up, so consequently that feature doesn't exist... yet... as always, that could change if there is ever a large enough collection of created patches. We users would have to create them and load them somewhere like CustomTone. There is already a huge base of AXE patches and POD patches so it works for them...
  2. I use one of these to access old hard drives, works like a charm... http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/search.asp?keywords=Sabrent+USB+2.0+to+IDE%2FSATA+Cable+for+2.5-Inch%2F+3.5-Inch+%2F+5.25-Inch+Drive+with+Power+Adapter
  3. You need an insert cable to take the stereo signal from the POD to the ZOOM. Try something like this: http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/STP201

  7. Holy crap! Just got my Trio tonight and straight out of the box it is the most fun pedal I have ever owned. Easy to setup and use, I got the extra 3 button switch to go with it. I set up a patch with my guitar in channel A and the FX loop in channel B feeding the Trio. Dummy plug in the Trio amp output and feed the Trio mixer output back into channel B. (that is only the drums and bass) Put a reverb after the bass and drums and center the mixer block. It sounds fantastic! Only through headphones so far but I am stoked. Played a funky chord sequence and it picked it up perfectly. Sweep through the different styles and genres and get things I wouldn't have thought of on my own, all synced perfectly. Changes tempo no problem. This is going to take my practice, playing and song writing to a whole new level... 8. make sure you have the K10's set right for the POD output. If using the XLR out from the POD, set the K10 to mic, if using the 1/4 out set the K10 to line. Should sort your weak signal problem. You can send the 1/4 outs to the K10's and the XLR outs to the board as well. Just be aware that the XLR does not sum to mono like the 1/4 outs if only using one. In that case you will want to center your mixer block in the POD or use a mono FX block last in the chain.
  9. Depends on what outputs you are using for the POD. The XLR outs are mic level so you would set the K10 to mic. The 1/4 outs are line level so the K10 should be set to line. If you set the K10 to mic with the 1/4 outs it will overdrive the speaker just as if you set the K10 to line with the XLR, it will be too quiet.
  10. when I grew up there was a thriving band circuit at all the high schools. Bands like Moxy, April Wine, Foot in Cold Water and yes, Rush! all played Friday night gigs at my high school. So many great bands with amazing talent levels... That was the icing on the cake for me even though the bug was already there ever since Alvin Lee played Going Home at Woodstock...
  11. Another good set of articles on pedal boards and pedal management. A lot of this can translate into how you build your patches within the POD too. http://www.guitar-muse.com/effect-pedal-chains-signal-basics-8099 http://www.guitar-muse.com/guitar-pedal-bypass-buffer-effects-loop-8118 http://www.guitar-muse.com/pedal-chain-basics-pedal-order-8132
  12. in general you should put TONE BASED pedals (wah, compression, distortion, overdrive, pitch) before the amp (POD) and TIME BASED pedals (chorus, delay, reverb) after the amp (FX Loop). lots of good articles about pedal order on the net... http://sixstringsensei.com/973/guitar-effects-pedal-order-part-of-the-absolute-one-stop-guide/
  13. well yes it COULD work. Will it be a satisfying solution? I'm not so sure. It is a tube preamp with a solid state power amp. You aren't gaining anything that will improve your POD tones and you will still be running through a guitar speaker and cab which is not capable of reproducing the full range of tones from the POD. I think you will struggle to get good tones and they will need a lot of work to be usable on any other rig or out to the PA. Get a decent powered speaker like the ALTO TS 110a, about the same price, and far better suited to working with the POD. Put your pedals in front of your POD or in the loop, they will work fine...
  14. If you missed last week's 36 Months Interest-free Financing offer, then we're excited to tell you that we've extended it for another week! Because we don't offer this promotion very often, some of you may not have been able to take advantage of it due to the timing of the holiday weekend. So, we've teamed up with our participating manufacturers to extend 36-month financing through July 13. Use your Sweetwater Musician's All Access Platinum Card on qualifying orders $699 and up, and pay no interest for 36 months. Make 36 equal monthly payments. Some restrictions apply. Get full details here: http://www.sweetwater.com/financing/allaccess.php - Your Friends at Sweetwater
  15. you can free up a slot by using one of the more transparent amps like the AC15 and assigning Exp1 to the Channel Volume, no Volume Pedal block. For your particular application, use the AC15 PRE model with NO CAB. Move all the FX blocks to after the mixer and you can adjust the amp settings as necessary to match your plain guitar tone by A/B'ing it with amp block on and off. Once you get it where you want it (pretty close to default for me) add your effects and you're good to go.
  16. took it apart tonight to find the problem. Disassembled the humbucker and checked all the wires, nothing obvious, good ground. Made sure all the tiny wires were out of the way and not rubbing on anything and the base plate had solid contact when I reassembled. Pulled the pick guard to check all connections, nothing loose. Put everything back together and the noise is gone, no grounding issues, no static. The mags sound much better. Problem solved for now...
  17. You can't have the same thing assigned to two expression pedals. I suggest that you use an alternate method to control the single volume assignment. Try linking Exp 1 to the amp channel volume and leave the volume pedal and pitch glide assigned to Exp 2. That will give you two separate independent volume controls each linked to a different pedal without taking up an extra FX block.
  18. Stevic Mackay from 12 Foot Ninja is marketing his own custom guitar with Variax guts apparently licensed from Line 6... apparently anything is possible... http://guitarnoize.com/shuriken-guitars-boutique-guitars-variax-technology/ https://www.facebook.com/shurikenguitars
  19. they work hard to give us the best product at the lowest price. that would just be one more thing to add to the cost and not everyone needs one.. mine will go in the case I already own,
  20. no. You will have to get it separately...
  21. I would be stunned if any of them had any more than a days difference in release date. I would expect Line 6 to have pretty tight control on that just to manage the marketing campaign that will be tied to the release. Nobody is getting a month early on the rest, guaranteed. On a side note, my sales engineer at Sweetwater was telling me Line 6 was there last week doing a huge Helix demo with hands on for all the guys and he was blown away... If the dog and pony show is on tour, they are probably pretty certain of a release date...
  22. I am looking at one of these too. I expect it would be best in a dual amp patch. You would need to set the input to same and put all your guitar stuff in channel A and an FX loop in channel B with no amp block. That will feed the clean guitar which the TRIO needs to and then send the MIXER output back to the FX return. You will need a dummy jack in the amp output too. Set the mixer pan in the POD to center on both channels and now you have a good feed to sent to your monitors. You have your processed guitar in channel A and the drums and bass in channel B. You could even add a reverb to channel B if needed. Surely there are other ways to do it but I think this would be the best with a POD.
  23. for me that's pretty easy. HD500X ($500) or if you have the money, wait for the new Helix. ($1500). Both will require a decent powered speaker (or a pair for true stereo) but these are you best bets for recording. http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Helix http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/PODHD500X http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/928101-REG/alto_truesonic_ts110a_ts110a_active_600_watt.html
