like I said, do some local research, ask around, find somebody you can relate to. You don't need to learn to read sheet music, you need someone who is going to teach you how to play. Someone to watch you play and tell you what you are doing wrong and show you the right way. It will be the best money you ever spent...

my two cents... spend some time and money with a good, qualified instructor. It is so easy to learn bad habits, posture, mechanics and so frigging hard to unlearn these behaviors. Much of your speed, dexterity, and comfort comes from having the correct mechanics and posture. Take the time to learn it the right way from the beginning. We are always happy to drop big $$$ on some new gear but often reluctant to throw that same cash at a good teacher. Do some research, get recommendations, find someone you can work with in person at least once a week. For practicing, download some courses and work your way through them step by step. There are lots of quality videos out there all designed to take you from beginner to performer over time. Don't rush it! Trust me, it will be well worth it.

I agree that you can choose a speaker model but according to Meambobbo, that is accomplished with EQ, not an IR in other than Studio Direct modes. "The cab selections in non-Studio/Direct modes use "live-voiced" cabs which are a mild EQ effect designed to make whatever real cabinet you are using sound more like the cab model selected in the cab. Note: although you can change the selected microphone and there is a gap in audio as you change selections, it has no effect on the tone. These are disabled by selecting "no cab"."

I am not privy to any factory information but from what I have been able to gather from the Advanced Guide, Meambobbo's guide, and other threads along the way, the IR's are only used in Studio Direct. Meambobbo is pretty specific about that. He says "live voicing" is nothing more than an EQ treatment. And that makes sense when you think about what the different output modes are designed for. Doesn't mean you can't use Studio Direct into a guitar speaker/cab and of course you can turn the cab/mic off for any of these output modes. http://foobazaar.com/podhd/toneGuide/setup#outputModes

I think an AIR convolution IS an Impulse Response (IR). The point of an IR is to simulate a particular guitar speaker and cab response so that a Full Range Flat Response (FRFR) system can produce a similar sound. If you are already feeding your signal to a real, physical guitar speaker and cab, there should be no reason to apply a simulated response on top of it. However, Line 6 has created these differing output options to allow you, the user, to decide which sounds best for your particular application. Obviously the POD can be used with a virtually unlimited combination of gear, from guitars, to amps, to speakers, to cab, and even direct to your DAW. It is up to you to choose which one you want to use for any given application but the Advanced Guide and my previous post describes what was originally intended by Line 6.
-
yep, that should work!
-
never tried but you should be able to. You will need to set up 2 separate paths in the POD. Use channel A for the DT and set the L6 link properly to pull only channel A. Use channel B for your 4CM setup. Keep the mixer panned hard left and right and only stereo FX in the post section. You will want to avoid combining the two signals anywhere along the path...

Page 2-8 of the HD500 Advanced Guide provides this information. Page 4, Setup: Output Options The Mode setting on this page allows you to configure the type of signal fed to your POD HD500 analog outputs to optimize for direct recording versus connecting to an external amplifier. Note that this Mode setting affects the signal fed to several POD HD500 outputs: Balanced, Unbalanced & Phones outputs as well as USB Record Send & L6 LINK audio outputs. Knob 1 selects the Output Mode. This is a global setting. • Studio/Direct: Typically the best option when connecting “Direct†to a mixing console or recording device. This signal includes “Studio†Cab Models, Mic Model and an “AIR†convolution to best emulate a mic’ed amp within a room. • Combo and Stack settings: Optimizes your tone for connecting to an external amplifier. The signal includes “Live†Cab Models, with no Mic Model or “AIR†convolution, with a special EQ curve added for each. • Combo Front & Stack Front: For connecting into the front input of a typical combo amp or amp head + external cab, respectively. When choosing either of these Modes, you’ll see the following additional options for further tone shaping: • Lows (Knob 2): Attenuates the low frequencies. • Focus (Knob 3): Increases the overall midrange. • Highs (Knob 4): Attenuates the high frequencies. • Combo Power Amp & Stack Power Amp: For connecting to the power amp of a combo or head amp. Meambobbo took this basic info and elaborated on it, explaining in more understandable terms what is actually going on in the POD. What he is saying is the POD uses cab/mic modeling (IR's) for use with FRFR systems (Studio Direct). There is no need for the IR if you are using a real physical guitar speaker and cab so they came up with some other options for us (Combo or Stack). These use various EQ's to help us get our physical guitar cab to emulate a different cab. These are further broken out depending on whether you are going into the amp's guitar in (Combo Front or Stack Front) or the FX Return (Combo Power Amp or Stack Power Amp) Hope that helps... Hahahahahahahaha... by the time I finished writing my post Hurghanico beat me to it!

You imply the company hosting this forum may be cheating you with their recent offering. You asked for our thoughts. You get our honest opinions and now claim to be some poor, defenseless, well meaning user merely asking a simple question and those mean old "fanboys" are picking on you... Maybe you should have asked for clarification in your original post... Right on, total waste of our time... and that is constructive criticism, not an attack, by the way...
-
perhaps you could have simply rephrased the original post in a way that would encourage others to provide useful responses... as it is, you kind of got what you asked for... lol...
-
no, you asked for my thoughts, I gave them to you. In the end analysis who gives a fu*k? If it's useable, great, if not, send it back. Roland charges $299 for a new model pack with only 2 models in it vs $99 for the full 24 with some new cabs too. And ours are all mix and match, cabs, mics, full amp models, preamp models. And you are wasting brain cells wondering if they are trying to bang you out for a few extra bucks with an old amp model with a few tweaks... I have plenty of posts covering real issues and helping people with real problems... nice try though...

DT-50 - L6 link configures POD automatically Amps (SS and tube) - using guitar in - use combo or stack, whichever sounds best to you. Amps (SS and tube) - using amp FX return - use studio direct PA, console, FRFR - use studio direct. There is no real right or wrong. Use what sounds best to you. No matter what you choose, L6 link will change it when you connect a DT amp.

I've read a number of threads and opinions on the value of the new model packs and even of the HD modeling itself. I have my own opinion and certainly believe everyone is quite capable of forming their own without my input. However, I was just saw a new "model pack" from Roland for their Blues Cube amp. Apparently they went to Eric Johnson's studio and modeled his clean and high gain amps and are offering this as a limited edition plug in complete with his exact settings. Neat little marketing ploy where it comes as a physical plug in module in the shape of a real tube complete with an octal pin plug. They are only going to make 300 of them and they charge $299. So lets compare model packs: Roland Eric Johnson Tone Capsule - 2 new amp/cab models - $299 HD Fully Loaded Bundle - 24 new amp/cab models - $99 Lets go with the amps themselves Blues Cube Artist 1 X 12 - 2 channel SS amp with 1 model, reverb and tremolo - $899 Line 6 DT25 1 X 12 - 2 channel hybrid tube with 8 models (free upgrade to choose from 20+ models) and multiple reverb models - $999 Lets just say I'm happy with the relative value I get from Line 6...

I'm saying those of us that like Win 7 will like Win 10 as it can be set up to function like Win 7. It is not limited to the Win 8 format.
-
correct me if I am wrong but I believe Windows 10 is able to be run like Windows 7 but with much improved engine and better integration with the apps. Supposed to be optimized for audio and video to be more competitive with Apple/Mac... I skipped 8 but will go with 10 on at least one machine to test...

suggest you use the POD FX Loop levels to adjust your signal strength. As far as the noise gate, if it is on the left side (before your amp) use it to control noisy pickups or distortion FX. If it is on the right side (after your amp) use it to control amp hiss from your tubes before the signal hits your delays or reverbs. Sometimes you need to use two just for that reason and then neither one has to be dialed in as hard...

wow... over here the TS110 is $199 and the DBR10 is $399. No brainer, get a pair of TS110's for the price of one DBR10.

Has anybody uploaded clean, crunch and heavy patches for ALL the HD amps?
radatats replied to barneybrown's topic in POD HD
no matter how you upload files, you still are limited to the total cumulative size you have. At some point you will be unable to upload without deleting something. The best way to do it is to open a free hosting account at one of the multitude of sites available. You upload your files there and share the link here. Most free sites give you at least 5GB which is virtually unlimited for these purposes. rd2rk - nice work to try all the amps. I took your file and loaded it for HD500 and also saved it with pre amps for DT users. 16X4 Full Amps 16X4 Pre Amps PS -I use www.MyFlare.com for hosting these files. Drag and drop, easy to share the links. Totally free. Keeps my Google Drive free for my personal files. -
sounds like a very moo-ving story...
-
that is correct. If you want the exact same thing as the DT standalone, you should enable the exact same cab and mic configuration. Of course there is absolutely no requirement to exactly duplicate the standalone settings... use whatever sounds best to you! Most of the time I prefer no cab and let my physical cab do all the work... I use the cab and mic sims as EQ presets...

I have my HD500 set to input 1 Variax, input 2 same and yet when I turn off the modeling in my JTV I can still hear the mags. Is this normal? Shouldn't the mags only be heard if I select Variax Mags in the POD? How does it work for anyone else with a JTV/HD500? Does it matter if the battery is installed or not? I just feel like there is a faint ghost note coming through and I think it is the mags bleeding through. PS - all firmware is up to date and I am connected only using the VDI cable.

POD HD + DT Series vs Stagesource Series?
radatats replied to gioal's topic in Dream Rig - Line 6 Product Integration
I don't have an L series but I do love my DT. However, they are both awesome. What you should consider is the L series will do everything, electric, acoustic, synth tones, backing tracks etc. and do it well. The DT is great for electric but really kind of limited for acoustic and other types of music. If you only play electric and just want a great amp to match up with your 500 the DT is a good choice. If however, you want to play a mix of different styles you are better off with a FRFR solution like the L series. My 2 cents anyways... -
