Depending on the impedance of the headphones, it's definitely possible to overdrive the headphones themselves. If you're not hearing clipping from the other outputs, that's probably what's happening.

There is no PC version of the app at the moment. Right now it is only available for iOS or Android. So, for iOS, it's in the App Store, and for Android, you'd download it from Google Play or whatever your particular device's equivalent is.

Can I update directly to latest firmware after purchase...
phil_m replied to corey_york's topic in Helix
Just install the latest update. -
This thread... Seriously, though. Enough with the personal attacks and insults. These forums are very lightly moderated, and I don't think anyone wants Line 6 to clamp down. But personally attacking other members is usually where the line is drawn.

My advice was the same as yours - turn the volume down. But, I still don't think there's much chance of actually damaging anything by unplugging and plugging in hot, especially when we're talking about guitar amps, not huge PA systems. Of course, if the amp is cranked, it can be bad, if done repeatedly. And I do think it's best practice to simply mute the input before plugging and unplugging. I'm just saying that the occasional accidental unplugging or plugging in while it isn't something to lose sleep over. If it were all that dangerous, we'd see damaged gear all over the place, all the time.

All I'm saying is that is much of the apocryphal stuff you hear from sound guys and people hanging out at music stores is pretty much BS (I used to work a music store). There is a very small chance that the pop you get from plugging in a guitar could damage a speaker, but it's probably near zero. The bigger issue is the annoyance of the pop itself. And I don't need a lecture from you about poor advice, when your first response in this thread was to belittle him.

I typically just mute the volume with the volume pedal, but tuner can work to. You're not going to hurt anything by unplugging and plugging in a guitar even without muting anything, though. You just might make you bandmates give you a mean look...

Not really, at least not with the same delay block. The delay time can either be in milliseconds or a set note value, and you can't go back and forth. You can't go from one note value to another with a snapshot controller, or one millisecond value to another, but not between the two. You can just add another instance of the Elephant Man block, though, and bypass the one you're not using in that particular snapshot.

If you're monitoring directly through the Helix, using the USB 1/2 out, there should be no latency.

Do I need to update to 2.01 before I update anticipated 2.02?
phil_m replied to johnonguitar's topic in Helix
Yes. Firmware updates essentially replace the whole enchilada... They aren't additive patches or anything like that. -
Copying and pasting a snapshot over another will replace any of the commands in the command center with the ones being pasted. If you're asking if clearing the controllers clears the commands, no it doesn't. There is a separate command for that, though. Hit the ACTION key while in Command Center, and press Knob 5 for "Clear All Commands".
-
There is a way at least partially do this. When you're in the Controller Assign screen and press the ACTION key, you have the option over Knob 2 to Clear All Controllers. So this would clear any snapshot controllers you've set up. You would still have to go reset the block bypass states in each snapshot. It might be easier to copy and paste one snapshot over the other ones, though, as others have already said.

$145 mod to fix the Helix: Whammy and Octave tracking glitch issue
phil_m replied to WickedFinger's topic in Helix
Yeah, that's something I don't really get with their pedals. I used to have the C9 pedal, and I thought it was great, but for live use, it was really a one-trick pony because, like you said, the only way to change sounds was to bend over and actually turn the knob. Even allowing user-storeable presets at all would be a big step up. -
Per snapshot amp channel switching with instant commands
phil_m replied to MemphoBuckeye's topic in Helix
Yeah, there may be no good workaround, at least for CCs, for what you want to do right now. I think the big thing is that the MIDI implement on the JVM410HJS is kind of weird, imo. They're using CCs to do something more like PC messages. Typically, CC messages are used more for setting values for parameters, not necessarily for switching between a handful of discrete channels. It would be nice if they gave a CC value in each mode that just didn't do anything, because than you could just set that value for that particular CC in the snapshot that you don't want anything to happen. Looking through the amp manual, I notice that the head has 128 presets slots that can be recalled by PC messages. That might be an easier way to go. You can send out a different PC message for each Instant Command in each snapshot. So they would act more like you're wanting the CC messages to act. You'd just be recalling presets on the amp instead of changing channels. The other workaround would be picking up something like the MIDI Solutions Event Processor Plus. That allows to create filters or unique MIDI maps, so you could send out PC messages from the Helix with snapshot changes and map them to whatever CC value you want. This might be getting further in the MIDI weeds than you want to go, though. -
Per snapshot amp channel switching with instant commands
phil_m replied to MemphoBuckeye's topic in Helix
This is the expected/designed behavior with Instant Commands. You can change the value of the CC, but not the actual CC. You do have up to six Instant Commands to work with, however. So if you want to send a certain CC for one snapshot, and another one for a different snapshot, you can do that. If the value for that CC doesn't change from snapshot to snapshot, that command won't be sent when you change snapshots -
It's the button underneath the "Amp" and "FX" switches, to the right of the volume/reverb knob. It has two curved arrows on it.
-
You can, but it's not very convenient. You can operate the looper from the front panel, though.
-
Are there brackets around the parameter? If not, then that parameter isn't being controlled by a controller. If you see brackets, it means you're on the right track. Also, when you first set up the snapshot controller, and set the parameter value, it will still set the value to be the same in every snapshot. It is easier to set the snapshot controller first, set the value to the baseline value you want, and then go change it to whatever you want in the snapshots you want it to change in.
-
Follow the advice I gave earlier for the parameters, and it will work. As far as the bypass states of the effects in each snapshot, you have to set those on a snapshot per snapshot basis. It's easier to set up your snapshots with the Snapshot Edits parameter set to recall, imo.
-
Any parameters you want to change on a snaphot per snapshot basis need to be tied to a controller. That can be an expression pedal, a footswitch, or, if you don't want to have any other control, just a snapshot controller. On the unit itself, just push and turn the knob for the parameter you want to setup, and you'll see brackets appear around the parameter. It's not setup to be controlled by a snapshot controller. You can now set the parameter for each snapshot. Additionally, if you want parameters controlled by expression pedals to bring up certain values with snapshot changes, you have to have the setting for the expression pedal that's controlling that parameter set to "Per Snapshot" under the "EXP X Pedal Position" under Global Settings > EXP Pedals. Also, if you have the Snapshot Edits parameter set to Discard in the Global Settings menu and leave the snapshot without saving the preset, any changes would be lost.

I agree with what others sad above. There's nothing really all that complicated about many of these rigs when you get down to it. The complexity lies in the fact that many of them are using loop switchers with MIDI controllers, so that entails running all sorts of cables, bringing stuff in and out, etc. It gets a little more complex if they use more than one amp, but even, then, Helix can that. In the analog world, one huge point of using bypass loopers is to preserve the integrity of the dry signal going to the amp. With the Helix, with everything "in the box" it doesn't matter if you have two pedals or 20 in front of the amp, the bypassed signal will be exactly the same.

I know I sound like a broken record, but are you re-seating the transmitter in the receiver for 10 seconds before you start playing? This is what makes the receiver scan for the best available channel and sets both the transmitter and receiver to that channel. If you're not doing this, you run a higher risk of having interference. That's not to say that you can't have interference after you've done that - things like being close to a wifi router can cause interference. When it cuts out, does it come back on its own? If it's cutting out and not coming back, that could be an issue with the micro-switch not being fully depressed. Some jacks don't have as much tension holding the jack in, so it's possible that the transmitter is turning off.

Interference on G10 when used on Yamaha SV-130/255 violins
phil_m replied to smiler2's topic in Relay Digital Wireless
The issue isn't with the piezo pickups themselves. The issue that some preamp systems don't like the G10's TRS connection. Using on of the little mono 1/4" to 1/4" adapters removes the ring part of the circuit, so that's why Line 6 recommends that as workaround. I have a few acoustic/electric guitars with piezo pickups and Fishman or LR Baggs preamp systems, and I don't have any issue with them an the G10. -
You just use the Helix's USB jack and a standard USB cable to connect to your PC. The editor doesn't work via MIDI, so you don't need another MIDI connection.
