AB Split Block...why no toebutton assignable?
datacommando replied to Aurasphere_au's topic in Helix
Thanks for the tip, although as I’m studio based my box of tricks lives on an angled stand at desktop height right beside me, and the onboard pedal remains unused. I have the floor because the store I bought it from didn’t have the Helix Rack, and a guy had been in there early in the morning to buy the last Helix floor model they had in stock. It seems he returned a few hours later with the Helix unopened - his wife didn’t approve. Oops! I got a phone call and the following morning it was in my studio. It’s all good clean fun! -
Hi Kent, I’m very sorry to hear that you are still having issues with your new Mac Studio and Native. As you have now also discovered that you cannot get Native to work as expected in Reaper, and I know that many other users out there are running trouble free with identical configurations of hardware and software, my concern is that this is beyond the scope of fellow users in these forums. I would think that by this stage it would be something that needs to be resolved by Line 6 Customer Support, and the best recourse is to raise a ticket with them. This is a user group who’s members try to supply peer to peer assistance where possible, though shared experience. Members of Line 6 staff do not monitor these forums and therefore will not be aware of your current situation unless you contact them directly. I have been using Macintosh computers since the Mac Plus and have seen them fail for the most unusual reasons. In the early days, a friend of mine who was an Apple Authorised Reseller, mentioned that on several occasions when he had taken a computer in to be serviced, the first thing that the technician would do was to drop the computer onto the counter top from a few inches above. He thought this was rather odd and asked why the engineer had done what he did. The answer it seems was that the chips inside the unit could start to creep out of their slots due to heat. Banging it thing on the counter was a simple trick to reseat the chips. I have known computers do some really weird stuff just because of badly seated memory chips. Not saying that’s what is happening in your case, but for the money you have invested in the machine, I would want a guarantee of perfect health. Sorry, I haven’t been able to help you fix this problem. My only other suggestion would be to also pursue this with Apple, this is an expensive high spec machine, and as you pointed out you had no problems on your old model running OS 12.4. It could be that your new machine has gone rogue. Hope this helps/makes sense.

External looper wiring and signal chain assistance
datacommando replied to hoppmyers1's topic in Helix
Hi, I have various external loopers that I use with my Helix floor, and one of those is the Boss RC30 in stereo. Easy enough to set up with a non bypassed stereo FX Loop block, usually near the end of the signal chain, although you can place it anywhere you wish. I then have 4 cables attached to Send 1/2 and Return 1/2, two are blue and two are red, and both are labelled to make cable management easier - red -> right, blue -> left, into and out of the RC 30. You can then customise the scribble strip to name it as you wish. For your configuration it may be best to have all your signal chain set up with all your fx, then just before the output stage, split the path to a parallel A/B, where one path (A) continues direct to the Helix stereo output (1/4” Right or both), and the second path (B) with the effect driven looper goes to another Helix stereo output(1/4” Left or both). There is no Global setting to have a looper available on any/every preset. Having said that, there is a a trick. If you know that the FXLoop block to feed your RC30 will always be in the same position in the signal path, add that block to the position you require in a New Preset and assign it to a footswitch that is not bypassed. Now touch the footswitch and create a Favorite and name it to suit, then next time you need to add you external looper, select it in the Favorites list it will be added to the current signal path, always in the same place. Done. See page 17 “Adding a Block to Favorites”, Helix 3.0 Owner’s Manual - Rev F - English. https://line6.com/data/6/0a020a3f041b611d61cac763b/application/pdf/Helix 3.0 Owner's Manual - Rev F - English .pdf Hope this helps/makes sense. -
AB Split Block...why no toebutton assignable?
datacommando replied to Aurasphere_au's topic in Helix
I know what you mean, as I also have 2 external Exp pedals (in Exp 2and 3) hooked up to my Helix floor. “Floor” is something of a misnomer, as it lives on a stand at the side of me and I can reach over and adjust things on the fly. This means that I never really use the built in pedal. I did try it out when I first bought the Helix, and discovered like many others, that the thing was an absolute beast to trigger the onboard footswitch to swap between Wah and Vol. Other than that I never considered using it to switch any other blocks, it’s just there and generally forgotten. I guess if you have a use for it, it may be worth running it up on IdeaScale, or as you say, ask Line 6 is this is a possibility. -
Hi, This keeps coming up over and over - what you have probably encountered is an over zealous GateKeeper in the Apple OS. You can bypass this by right clicking on the file and clicking “Open”. It will possibly warn you, but it will run. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202491 Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hi, This is a cut n paste from a previous thread to save a lot of typing. AFAIK - Helix Native can be run on 4 machines at the same time and should function in Demo Mode for 15 days then all you need to do is authorised the installed demo version with the license details from your account. You should find it listed under your Purchase History listed as Helix Native for Helix owners. Also check under Product Activations where you will find the Code needed to activate the full version. In an attempt to clarify this situation, I would advise that you download and install the latest version of one of the free DAWs available for your Mac eg: Reaper - make sure you have the correct one for your OS -available here: https://www.reaper.fm/download.php If it does not function with other programs, it could be that your installation is damaged, which would require a full clean out of all Line 6 software from your Mac. Please take note of the link I provided in my reply to “AtticusFinch1987” above, especially the notes about hidden folders. From your posts, my guess something has screwed up on your new Mac Studio, and/or Motu Digital Performer - there are many others using the same hardware and Native without any problems. Hope this helps/makes sense.

AB Split Block...why no toebutton assignable?
datacommando replied to Aurasphere_au's topic in Helix
You should follow the advice given by “codamedia”, in the post above. Contact Customer Support and/or post the suggestion of adding the extra toe switch functionality on IdeaScale. Hmm… well the Helix doesn’t have the ability to break out to a USB channel in mid path, even with a FX Loop block, but it would be possible to move everything that is currently after the suggested break point down onto Paths 2A and 2B. That way you could lose path 1B and then change the output at the end of Path 1A from Multi to whichever USB channels you want to send to your Live computer. Then you would need to change the input of Path 2 to receive the USB output channels from your Live computer, through the other effects on 2A and also to the looper on 2B, finally out through Multi, XLR or 1/4” sockets. Hope this helps/makes sense. -
AB Split Block...why no toebutton assignable?
datacommando replied to Aurasphere_au's topic in Helix
Hi, I would guess the “toe switch” is not an assignable option because it’s basic function is to act as a bypass from Exp 1 to Exp 2. In its normal state Exp1 is active as a Wah, Pitch Whammy or whatever, but jump on the switch at it becomes a Volume pedal. These are the default settings, and it would appear that the switch only works as a bypass between Exp1 and 2. In your second screen capture image, you can see that where it says “Split A/B” the option is set to “Route To” the other choice from the drop down under “Route To”, is “Bypass” which does show Exp Toe. That’s it - that seem to be all it does - on/off. Your signal path shown in the first screen capture would be an ideal candidate for any of the other A/B switching options - as it seems you have already discovered. Assign to another footswitch and it works just fine. It’s the sort of set up that many users employ to switch between paths. I would suggest that if you think that you have used up all your available footswitches, it might be time to investigate using “Snapshots” which is specifically for handling complex switching issues. Each preset can have 64 parameters distributed between 8 snapshots, giving you presets within presets. A simple 2 S/S preset could feed into the looper on snap 1, and give you the straight through path on snap 2. How much more complex does it need to be? One thing I noticed in your example preset is that Path B seems to have a Send block that goes out and doesn’t seem to return? You obviously have a reason, but hey. ? -
Bug automating a stereo Transistor Tape?
datacommando replied to theblacktaxi's topic in Helix Native
Or, you could have read the Helix Native Pilot’s Guide - English - page 71 (find it by clicking on the question mark icon in the lower left of the GUI window). It’s not a secret - it is, and always has been fully documented. -
Hi Ken, You obviously missed this discussion. Things have moved on since 2016.Oops! Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hi, Got to agree with “rd2rk” in the post above. Big clue - Helix family of products has never been able to respond to System Exclusive messages. See the reply from Digital Igloo (Eric Klein, Chief Product Design Architect at Yamaha Guitar Group, Inc. / Line 6 / Ampeg) in this thread from 2017 -

AB Split Block...why no toebutton assignable?
datacommando replied to Aurasphere_au's topic in Helix
I have absolutely no idea - I didn't design the thing. You're not making it clear exactly what you are trying to achieve? You last reply is a world away from the original post where you stated "I simply want to change the routing for an AB split to be 100%A on EXP1 and 100%B on EXP2". I replied that it is not necessary to use 2 expression pedals to switch from one path to another. You say you need 2 paths, A and B, and when you press down the EXP Pedal Toe, it should switch paths? Theoretically, you can assign anything, to any other thing, using Instant Commands, but I don't know if this toe switch is an available option. Nope, I can't see this happening. You can switch from path A to B, or any blend thereof, but I simply cannot comprehend how you think that one, or other of these paths will loop continually without a looper block engaged in either path. If you wish to play over a looping section of audio - stick a looper block in the path, or use an FX Send/Return block to a dedicated external looper. It works for me. You can then have a whole bunch of effects dedicated to processing just the output of the looper, and play a completely different configuration of things for your guitar or whatever over the top of that. ? -
Hi, Helix Native -- Two Things First: Helix Native has it's own section on these forums - you can find it here: https://line6.com/support/forum/90-helix-native/ Second: Line 6 staff do not monitor these forums, and very rarely do they visit, so you need to sign up to IdeaScale which you can find here: https://line6.ideascale.com/c/home Once you've signed up and are in there, find the Helix/HX section from the menu at the top of the page, then you can post your ideas among the other 5,500 plus requests, but it is the only place where it might get picked up. Please Note: before submitting your ideas, search through all the other requests to ensure you are not duplicating ones that may already be in there. If you don't check, then you will only succeed in watering down the votes the item may already have accumulated. Once you have added to the IdeaScale site, you can post here, to the "sticky" thread at the top of the main forum page to let other users know and to encourage them to upvote your idea. Hi, The scribble strip for the onboard Exp shows either Exp1 or 2 depending on which is selected. There is no dedicated visual feedback for Exp3. I have 2 external expression pedals connected to my Helix and have no difficulty in being aware of which is being used. For example, if I have Exp2 in acting as a volume pedal, the volume block can be assigned to a non bypassed footswitch and the scribble strip for that can be customised to suit. Likewise, if Exp3 is controlling the feedback of a delay block simply modify the name to suit. If you don’t want to assign a footswitch to the block you wish to control, set you external Exp3 to auto engage whatever function you require in that block. Should be simple enough to remember what the external pedal is mapped to. I have managed to cope with these 2 external pedals for years with no problems in knowing which is which. Hope this helps/makes sense.

Yep - you need to sign up to IdeaScale which you can find here: https://line6.ideascale.com/c/home Once you've signed up and are in there, find the Helix/HX section from the menu at the top of the page, then you can post your idea among the other 5,500 plus requests, but it is the only place that it might get picked up. Volume Adjustment of DI Line on Using Helix as Audio Interface
datacommando replied to HelixUser333's topic in Helix
Hi, This is odd, because many users complain that the level of the DI signal is far too low. You didn't mention what DAW you're using and on what platform. It may, or may not, be significant, but it's good to know what we are dealing with when trying to troubleshoot situations like this. I have checked the level I'm getting into Logic Pro on my Mac and the stereo processed signal peak on USB 1&2 is around -5 to -8dB. The dry mono on USB 7 is about -24dB. It works for me and I use this set up almost daily. If the processed signal is too hot I can trim the USB 1/2 level from the final Multi Output block, and it is possible to change level on on USB3/4 or 5/6, but there is no level adjustment for USB 7 or USB 8 as they are dedicated out for the dry audio only. Without a bit more information, it's very difficult to assess what is happening to your Direct Injected audio. Hope this helps/makes sense. -
AB Split Block...why no toebutton assignable?
datacommando replied to Aurasphere_au's topic in Helix
Hi, Way back! at the dawn of Helix, this was mentioned: https://line6.com/support/topic/18138-switch-between-two-paths-with-expression-pedal/ And then this, “The truth is out there” (but it’s a lot more rewarding when discover stuff for yourself). Hope this helps/makes sense. -
O.K. Ah, now I have read through your post(s) again, and although this post is entitled - “Helix Native and Mac Studio Not Working - M1? 12.4? DAW? Rosetta? Native?”, hidden in the body of the post is a reference to MOTU Digital Performer. As pointed out, in my prior post - Helix Native does work with Mac Studio M1 computers running Big Sur and/or Monterey OS. There are many happy users out there, but the gremlins can get in. Have you considered that the issue may not lie with Helix Native, your Mac Studio or Rosetta, but possibly Digital Performer. Also, there was this from an old thread regarding an earlier version of Native and Mark of the Unicorn DP. Have you tried the solution offered in this thread from Customer Support. You also posted in another thread on here, where user “boynigel” had issues with his Mac Studio and it was resolved via Customer Support. Maybe you could quote him in the thread to see if he can offer any assistance. Hope this helps/makes sense.

HX Stomp, allowing the 3 bottom knobs to control parameters in play view
datacommando replied to jprykiel's topic in Helix
Theoretically, you can assign anything to anything in the HX family of products, by using the Command Centre. Although, how that could/would work in your example, I have no idea. I don’t have access to a Stomp, therefore cannot check the feasibility of this. Also, it appears that contributor “lou-kash” has answered the Y cable question. Oh, BTW, I upvoted your post on IdeaScale. -
Uh? I checked my Helix floor and the manual - can’t find any mention of this “Bank Limit” in relation to what the OP wants to achieve.

HX Stomp, allowing the 3 bottom knobs to control parameters in play view
datacommando replied to jprykiel's topic in Helix
Hi, JPR, Now I understand a little more about what you would like to be able to do with the parameters while in play mode. I said that by using my Helix on a stand, I can change parameter settings on the fly, but the fact remains that I can only change those one effect block at a time using the touch sensitive switches. Then I have to use the “page” buttons to navigate to other functions. Granted the Helix has up to 6 parameter knobs available on each page, but each is tied to a specific function- e.g. Time, Feedback, Predelay, Scale, Spread etc. You are asking for the ability to control the level of 3 different effects via the 3 knobs available on the HX Stomp. Although I understand your situation, I still cannot comprehend how this could work either on the Stomp, or with the other units with more knobs. I’m not really sure how easy, or difficult, it would be to assign one specific function from 3 effects to those 3 knobs. The option to control various parameters is already available by using controllers, instant commands and snapshots. As I stated previously - I don’t really think this is a viable option, but at least you have posted it to IdeaScale where it has a chance of been upvoted by others who may well like the idea. Hope this helps/makes sense - Good luck -
HX Stomp, allowing the 3 bottom knobs to control parameters in play view
datacommando replied to jprykiel's topic in Helix
Hi, Right at the top of the first page of this forum is a “sticky” thread precisely for posting to let others know about your suggestions that you have added to IdeaScale. I’m really not sure about what you are requesting for the HX Stomp. I have a Helix floor unit, (not actually on the floor but on a stand), which allows me to reach over and use the small knobs to change, or adjust, parameters on the fly. Is this not an option on the Stomp - surely you just have to put the unit into Edit mode? Of course, all this is kind of pointless if the Stomp is on the floor - you have to bend down to modify any of the 3 knobs available. I realise you could possibly use the parameter knobs to change delay times and feedback in real time, but the same thing can also be achieved by using an expression pedal. IIRC, the whole point of a Stomp model was it should be “stomped on”, most things are done simply by using your feet. It might be me, but I think this concept is a non starter. Hope this helps/makes sense. -
Hi, You seem to know what you want to achieve - why not give it a go? You can assign 64 controllers per preset, simply assign and modify each to suit. If it works great, if not then you will know. I seem to remember seeing a preset where every footswitch played a different chord with the synth modules. Check the Templates or CustomTone for synth patches to see how they work. EDIT: I think for what you are wanting to do, you would be better off using footswiches assigned to chords as pads like the Icehouse track. You can assign the separate oscillators to work with the expression pedal going from zero to full on the level, but I cannot immediately see a way for them to pick up at different points in the travel of the pedal. Need to dig deeper! O.K. here's an example of using footswitches to do the synth part - The guy has freebie presets on CustomTone: Hope this helps/makes sense.
