Latest drivers suddenly incompatible with Windows 11
datacommando replied to jesperbc's topic in Helix
That’s some big hope! We are all simple Helix/HX product users in here. There are no Line staff here, and only very occasionally do they visit these forums - See the “sticky comment” in the black banner stripe at the top of this page entitled “Welcome to the Line 6 forums!” If you really need to attract the attention of someone who actually works for Line 6, then your best option is over in the Digital and Modelling Group area on TGP, or the Helix Family group on Facebook. https://www.thegearpage.net/board/index.php?forums/digital-modeling-gear.53/ https://www.facebook.com/groups/428105950706417 Oh, yeah - You will need to get used to the idea that you will only ever find out about when something “drops” after it has happened. Hope this helps/makes sense. -
1. That’s plain crazy - (and just who are these people?). 2. No.

Hi, You probably guess right, but as noted in the comments above you could simply uninstall the update. It appears Microsoft have various issues with this update. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/release-health/status-windows-11-21h2 I never ceased to be baffled by folks rushing in to complain about Line 6 for issues that have actually been caused by updates to the Windows and Mac OS. Hope this helps/makes sense.

Oh, not the Drive 0 issue again - that’s your problem right there - although, I’ve never seen a report posted as “computer not authorised”. It usually gets listed as HX Edit, or Native starting with a blank screen, or even not launching. Check the solution provided by “Camelot_One” in the first link. Hope this helps/makes sense.

[SOLVED] Mimic Flip/Flop Function in Stomp Mode v3.15
datacommando replied to cmscss's topic in Helix
Hi, Although, I fully understand your frustration with this, you should also consider this - there is not a single user In here who didn’t start with a blank slate when it came figuring out any of this Helix stuff. In my earlier reply, I said you wouldn’t like it - and it seems I was right. A simple story for you. Three Buddhist monks on a mountain top were looking down at the prayer flags fluttering on the temple towers. The acolyte said, “Look -the flags are moving”. His teacher said, “No - the wind is moving. The Master turned to the other two, and said, “Ah, the mind is moving.” Stick with it Grasshopper. We can show you stuff, but cannot make you understand. -

I genuinely didn't think you were being critical of the unit - you simply pointed out your misgivings as to what was missing when compared to other options, e.g. Pad, Ground Lift, Polarity (phase) Reversal, Two Channel, etc. There can be a world of difference in the transformers used in these things, but judging for the item he chose I guess price may be an issue. Maybe he's not in the market for Radial JDI, but I have seen good reports on many less expensive models that are not as noisy as one might expect, and are fitted with ground lift. It can be a bit of a minefield when it comes to this stuff.

Hi, The comments from “codamedia” are perfectly valid, but almost every review I have seen for this product has usually been around 4 out of 5 stars (Sweetwater, Amazon, etc.). There are some 2 star reviews on Amazon mentioning similar issues to yours - check those out - although ART have been in the audio game for quite some time and are reasonably well regarded. I guess the reason why there isn’t a “ground lift” switch is because this box is designed to be an “always on” transformer. Having said that the “manual” for it is essentially a circuit diagram as the thing should be plug and play. Here’s a very old review from the U.K. Sound on Sound magazine - although it does mention this:- “The nominal 'ground' terminals of almost all the connectors are isolated from the case metalwork, but the sleeve of the TRS socket and pin 1 of the XLR for the channel 1 inputs are grounded directly to the case. A thoughtful inclusion is a screw terminal for an external ground wire.” Original article here: https://www.soundonsound.com/reviews/art-dti Have you checked the option of adding an external ground wire to check that is functioning correctly. I wouldn’t rule out the possibility that you might have a dud unit. As it is brand new, check with the dealer to see if you can swap it out for another one, or even another brand (unless you really need RCA connectors). Nothing to lose in asking. Hope this helps/makes sense.

[SOLVED] Mimic Flip/Flop Function in Stomp Mode v3.15

Hi, You’re not going to like this, but… RTM https://line6.com/data/6/0a020a411710a6112a67116f0b/application/pdf/HX Effects 3.0 Owner's Manual - Rev C - English .pdf Also available in French, German and Japanese. Pages 30 - 33 covers Snapshots, including, using, editing, and naming and colouring them. Here’s a walk through video: Hope this helps/makes sense. -
Not intending to steal this thread from “rd2rk”, but that “SS IC” is a shorthand acronym for Snap Shot Instant Command. Hope this helps/makes sense.
-
The comment from “rd2rk” above gets my vote - if you haven’t already done so, check your cables with a testing device. Hiss, crackle and pop is usually indicative of bad cable connections. Hope this helps/makes sense.
-
That’s strange. I know this may sound trite, but other’s have commented previously, that the best wat to avoid this sort of occurrence, is to buy directly from the vendor, thus bypassing the potential “license” error. Bad news if that happens at a gig! Thanks for the update.

Latest drivers suddenly incompatible with Windows 11
datacommando replied to jesperbc's topic in Helix
Hi, I think that you should have named this thread - “Windows 11 suddenly incompatible with latest Line 6 drivers”. This has been brought to folks attention previously in this thread here: This on a par with the Mac fraternity blaming Line 6 for issues brought about by Apple making changes to their OS. People require time to catch up with spurious updates. Hope this helps/makes sense. EDIT: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/why-do-incompatible-drivers-prevent-using-memory-integrity-0b7ae567-74de-ee03-1030-9e6fe0d6f4b6 -
Here ya go! - check out this stuff. https://www.moodscaper.com Not exactly regular loopers, but very interesting software that creates soundscapes, essentially a generative atmospheric sample-based instrument. 3 different versions, synth, guitar, and piano based, and you can replace the sounds that it plays back. I have been playing around with these three for quite some time now. Not quite the easiest thing to get to grips with but capable os some truly remarkable results. Check the documentation. LOL! Well, back in the 80's MIDI and computers were a brand new thing and I was still using tape machines for recording. Around that time, some scientist guys at company in Australia created a computer based recording/sampling machine known as the "Fairlight CMI". Fantastically expensive piece of equipment available only to the likes of Peter Gabriel, Kate Bush, Alan Parsons and Trevor Horn. At the time, I thought that I could never have hoped to access anything like that in a millions years - well, now I have 2 software versions of the Fairlight, and also the equally famous Synclavier and Emulator, but guess what - there are now fully featured DAWs that can do a hell of a lot more than any of those units, and they are FREE! YAY! Have fun going loopy.

From the same article - linked above: "Generally speaking if you send an instrument-level signal into a device that needs line-level input, you will get weak sound, inadequate processing, and probably extra noise as you boost the signal to compensate."
-
Distortion! “If you send a line-level signal into a device that's meant for instrument or mic-level input, you will get distortion.” You must like distortion. Here’s the tech explanation. http://www.ovnilab.com/articles/linelevel.shtml Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hi, Hmm… reliable? That’s very subjective, and exactly what is meant by reliable? As stated previously, I’ve used it on my iPad as a way to quickly capture ideas while at home that can then be transfer over to Logic when back in the studio. I have alway found it to be very good in my experience. Using the Apple Camera Connection Kit, I have been able to use a small MIDI keyboard to record the inbuilt soft synths, and the iRig2 handled getting the guitar input. In a live situation, this is the sort of thing that only you can decide. That is why I said “Have fun experimenting”. One of the reasons that I mentioned using GarageBand once more was, if you did have a backing track or audio loop playing back, then you could still use the USB1&2 channels from the iPhone to your Stomp XL, because you could have a fully produced piece from GB not requiring any further fx adding. There are many way to approach what you are trying to ultimately achieve, but only you can decide what will work for you. Any item of a live, or studio rig, can fail at any time - that’s the nature of the beast. As ever in the world of Helix, and digital - fail safe is the way. Always have a backup - preset, setlist, cables, hardware, whatever - if it can go wrong… it will. You need to sit down and think about exactly what you what to do, and how to utilise what you have at your disposal, to help you get there. Ye Gods, back in ‘83, when I was still splicing tape, and just discovering the miracle of MIDI when I got my Roland JX-3P and tried to get it to communicate with an early crappy drum machine, if I had been give access to some of the kit that is available now, who knows… Experiment - and have fun! Hope this helps/makes sense.
-
You still have GarageBand, which is crammed with Synthi goodies and audio loops. Now you know how to get audio from the iPhone into your XL you have endless possibilities as a one man band. You could set up entire backing tracks to fire off as needed. Just another crazy idea. Have fun experimenting.

Ah, ha - generally the reason that the Updater fails to recognise the unit is because HX Edit is still running in the background, but hey, this fixed it. Anyhow, it’s good to know you have managed to fix the error and can use your Helix. Enjoy your new toys in the 3.15 firmware.

Good luck with that - hope you find your ideal small setup.

Well, at least with the Fractal stuff you won't have to post in their forums "I'm always anxious for new features/improvements". It seems to be a never ending process updating their stuff. That might bite into your guitar playing time. ;-)
-
Some sage advice from Digital Igloo posted way back - Quote from 2.92 release notes. “Instead of hanging out on social media, desperately asking when the next firmware's dropping, you can now, I dunno, actually play guitar? As soon as a new update becomes available, HX Edit will tell you, and all you gotta do is follow the prompts.” Oh, yeah -Eric also said it will be soon! Oh, yeah - your chance to wait will be soon!

And that is exactly the reason that I bought my Helix floor unit way back in 2015, but I’m a studio rat, so it lives on a stand set at desk height right beside me, making the strobe tuner easily visible. It has 2 external expression pedals on the floor and along with the onboard 1 and 6 switch loopers, I have 3 different external loopers (4 if you include the one in the Mooer Ocean Machine) that can be patched in when required. I also have a huge rack full of studio outboard - vintage synth modules, DDL, reverb, Akai Sampler, drum module etc., that can be patched into the FX loops as, and when (still a big fan of the SPX90 Symphonic effect). You could possibly guess from this that your quest for the small footprint FX board will be endless, as long as folks like us have GAS! - it doesn’t matter - your gear will always keep expanding. Jeez I still have a POD XT Live, HD500 and a Roland GR33 gathering dust in the corner. Anyhow your current board is 14x10“ and my Helix is 22.05x11.85x3.6”, around a third lager and it replaced a whole rack of outboard studio gear. The Helix, along with my Arturia KeyLab, and XTouch universal MIDI controller gives me all I need for now.
-
Yep - you could do it with just some sort of simple A/B switch box with the MG2 cable into one socket and your guitar into the other - one click of the footswitch and it will swap between which input is fed into your Stomp. Lots of options for A/B (or ABY) switching - just Google away! (Bet you wish you has bought a Helix floor/Rack now) ;-) Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hi, This sort of issue as been discussed at length many, many times in here, but for a definitive answer, check this from the man himself: Digital Igloo - Eric Klein, Chief Product Design Architect, Yamaha Guitar Group / Line 6 / Ampeg “Helix's headphone amp is LOUD; it's designed to drive high-impedance studio headphones to stage volumes. Low impedance headphones distort way faster, fatigue your ears, and at a high enough volume, can damage your hearing. With Helix you could conceivably split the headphone output to two pairs of 200-300 Ω cans/IEMs and drive both over the sound of a drummer (and adjust respective levels via MIDI CC control of path output blocks). My band does this now.” link to original post where he says he uses Sennheiser HD600 rated at 300Ω. https://www.thegearpage.net/board/index.php?threads/line6-helix.1586637/page-1184#post-22007938 Hope this helps/makes sense.
