L2T crackling on low frequencies
oehman replied to trindtrc's topic in StageScape Mixer / StageSource Speakers
Here's a short video of the L2 rattle that I've had. I strummed an E chord on a Variax acoustic setting since that is when it is the most audible. I was filming, strumming, and moving the L2 to get at the back better, so some of the buzz is me mis-fretting the chord....but as I get to the fan better, you can hear the rattle snake jump out! The local service center has a fan on order from Line 6. Hoping that takes care of it! Rattle L2.MOV -
I too use a different patch for each song and then arrange them in order so I can just step through my setlists. I can't read the patch names without bending over a little to read them. Wish they had made a big patch name mode instead of the 1A 1B configuration. Oh well, I guess that's one more reason to consider the Helix upgrade.....the display is supposed to be easier to read. I just hope it a has jumbo patch name display mode.

A feature that would really help speed up the process of stetting up presets and tweaking them would be a folder of Favorites. This would probably be Helix Edit feature and not be available in standalone, but who knows.. So for example, if I want path A to be for guitar, I drag & drop my favorite chain of effects, amp blocks, mixer settings etc. to that path. Then do the same for a vocal mix on Path B. Or if you always like your delay set a certain way, save it as a favorite and drag & drop that instead of the default whenever you want to add a delay If you later find or create a vocal effects chain that you like better, you could save that as a favorite and reload it into each preset. This is a feature in Reaper that works really well when recording &mixing.

L2T crackling on low frequencies
oehman replied to trindtrc's topic in StageScape Mixer / StageSource Speakers
Is it a crackle or more like a rattle? There is a known issue with the fan rattling on certain low frequencies. My L2M made a noise like a vibroslap when I strummed an E chord on Variax acoustic models. I brought it in to an authorized service center and L6 is shipping a redesigned fan. It is minor annoyance because the rattle is not noticeable most of the time. -
Just wondering how other users are configuring their presets when using the L2 in electric guitar mode. I have some presets that are full amp models with cabinets and microphones on that sound great In PA mode and not as good in electric guitar mode. Wondering if this is because the L2 electric guitar mode simulates a guitar cab and doesn't need the HD500 to do the job of cab & mic simulation. And I know the usual disclaimer that "there's no wrong way' and 'let your ears be the guide'. But I've found that generally the settings that L6 suggests are the settings that end up sounding the best for me. Just hoping to hear from users that gig or rehearse with the l2 in that mode on regular basis

I always 1) use HD Edit to save my set lists individually, 2) do the update - choosing to overwrite my presets. 3) reload my set lists one at a time. I usually start by overwriting the 'effects heavy' set list. I've left the Variax set list in because there are some pretty good presets in there.

Napynap - your OP had me thinking that maybe you played in a nü metal band or in a situation where huge stage volume was the issue. But clearly that is not the case. Your tones and playing are outstanding. You could probably post that video in the Helix forum and fool them into thinking you are a beta tester.... Please upload your patches to custom tone and give us the link! As to why your band mates don't feel it, IDK. does everyone in the band have their own monitor, or is the only stage monitor for vocals? And not to blame equipment, but my hd500 didn't leave me feeling satisfied until I bought a L2 for a vocal/guitar monitor. I started with a Behringer 10" (not very good), IEM (much better),and EV ZLX12p (very good) before I took the plunge on the L2. Big difference for me, but I don't think my band mates or the audience noticed a difference.

On first listen, I was sure the Friedman was first. Then i listened through headphones are read others comments - and now I just don't know. Both tones are pretty damn good! I downloaded your patch and was surprised to see 1) Bass & treble on amp set to zero 2) DrZ 2 x 12 cabinet instead of default 4 x 12 cabinet 3) Mixer panned center/ fader at +4db/channel volume on amp set to 86. I would think that these 3 boosts in volume would create a hot output signal that might clip a mixer input. 4) Second Tube Screamer has both drive & output well over 50%. This too would boost quite a bit. Too late here to crank this up and check it out. But looking forward to test driving it tomorrow. Great job-Love these videos!

If you are using the HD Edit program on your PC, click on the Mixer page and change the Variax Model from 'Don't Force' to the model that you want to use. Then SEND, SELECTED to save the preset to the POD. If you are just using the HD500, click & hold VIEW. Then page over to page 7/12 and use knob 2 to change to the Variax model that you want. You may also need to use knob 1 to set Variax Control to 'PRESET'. Then hit SAVE twice.

I like the full version of the Dr Z into FRFR speakers (especially with a tube screamer) but didn't really like it into the Dt25. Like you said, not enough crunchy gain. I have found that most amp pre's into the Dt25 have more responsive gain and better feel with input 2 on the Hd500 set to same. But when I use full versions into a PA speaker, I set input 2 to aux. Not sure if that's the common practice, but it's a system that has worked well for me.

I once had a friend with an old Sears Silvertone amp. Cool overdrive when you cranked it. Also, the 2-prong plug gave you a pretty good jolt if you held your strings & touched something metal. L6 should add an authentic model of that amp.... :0

Thanks for posting on IdeaScale. I voted it up. TC Helicon has been expanding into the guitar processing market with their Voicelive units. L6 should expand their processors into vocal related effects & processing. It looks like they already have ideas of heading in that direction with some of the screen shots they've posted showing a separate signal path for vocals.

At the risk of being ridiculed, i must ask... Will there be any pitch correction for vocal effect in the Helix? I currently use a TC Helicon VoiceLive. Yes, i admit i use a little PC to smooth out my rough spots. It also helps harmonies match up a little better. Some even use it as an Effect with the settings set a bit more extreme - a common pop effect. If this feature were included in Helix, it sure would give a little more weight toward buying one for me. I could dump the HD500 and Voicelive and replace with one solution.

Make Your Variax Sound 100% Better
oehman replied to katiekerry's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
I've noticed a pretty good groove has developed under my high E string on my JTV59. Enough that if I push on it it pops out of the groove and makes an audible ping. I'm a little nervous about filing the groove out and going too far! Are these piezo bridge parts easy to replace? Where can they be bought when they need replacing? -
For $1500, Helix is going to have to blow away the sound of my HD500X into the L2. I'd say the HD500x into L2 is about 85% as good as HD into DT25. With the bonus of sounding better with acoustic JTV models. All the other routing options, etc won't mean anything if the sound and feel of the amps isn't a significant upgrade over HD509x

Have the specs on the Looper been posted? I'm wondering if the record time has been increased from HD500X.
-
Can the footswitches be configured so that the Presets are the top row and effects on the bottom row? I usually don't switch presets in mid-song on my HD500X, but often turn effects off and on. Its hard to step over that first row in mid song, especially when singing and then footing around for a boost or overdrive for a solo!

I did a support ticket and they recommended re-flashing the HD500x and the JTv-59. I only re-flashed the HD500X. Using them for a couple of hours yesterday. i had no issues with rebooting. Re-flashing the HD appears to have fixed the problem.

POD HD + DT Series vs Stagesource Series?
oehman replied to gioal's topic in Dream Rig - Line 6 Product Integration
Maybe just the honeymoon phase of only having the L2 for a week... But I used a patch I created for Santana Smooth and cranked it through the L2 via L6 link. I had it in electric guitar mode. Notes sustained nicely and had that 'verge of feedback' sustain that is so nice. I don't often get to play with a lot of volume and usually use IEM on stage. But I agree - if I were just playing electric, and didn't use a stage monitor, I'd stick with the DT. It's almost hard to get a bad tone if you use reasonable settings. -
POD HD + DT Series vs Stagesource Series?
oehman replied to gioal's topic in Dream Rig - Line 6 Product Integration
I've had a DT-25 for about a year and half. Just bought a highly discounted L2 last week. The Dt is the nicest sounding amp I've owned - and I owned & played quite a few. But lately I've been singing in a band that does a mix of classic rock & acoustic stuff. So I'd just gone direct to the mixer and used in ear monitors. At a show this week, I used the L2 for vocal and guitar monitor. It was really great. Vocals were warm and crisp. Guitar tones were inspiring. At home I ran the L2 in electric guitar mode and was very impressed by how much it felt like a tube amp. My take: If you are strictly an electric guitar player, I'd say get a DT. If you sing, play electric & acoustic and want to monitor both, get the L2 -
Can anyone post a link or attachment of the Variax Setlist that cam with the lateset firmware? Think I overwrote mine after I updated.

Hmmm.. I've had an issue with the HD500x freezing up less than a minute after powering up and then rebooting itself. I run my JTV-59 via VDi cable. It's been since the firmware update. I have the L6 link going to my DT-25, but not turned on. Just using the XLR to Pa, but leave L6 connected in case I want to crank it up. I'll have to see if starting up without Jtv and L6 link keeps it from freezing and rebooting.

Looks like it might be antivirus software related. I logged on using a different laptop and everything went well. Downloaded License Manager, logged in, registered devices, and updated via Monkey. Then reran License Manager, and it installed the model packs.
