  1. Q1- Reaper. By far the best $60 I have ever spent. REAPER | Audio Production Without Limits www.reaper.fm/ REAPER is digital audio workstation software: a complete multitrack audio and MIDI recording, editing, processing, mixing, and mastering environment. ‎ Q2 - I would just go left XLR out of the HD to the XLR in the stage. If you are using dual amps in the HD or using stereo effects, you'll need to go left & right XLR out and use 2 channels on the house mixer
  2. At 2 recent shows where the electrical outlets tested ok, I got shocked from my microphone while playing my JTV into Pod via Variax cable. This only happened when I had phantom power turned on the mixer to power a condenser mike. My pod HD was only feeding the mixer via XLR out. My mike cable and mike test ok. So I'm wondering about the power supply on the Pod. It is only 2 prong, and both prongs are the same size. Is there a correct way to plug it in? Seems like the power supply should have 3 prongs or one bigger than the other so the polarity is correct. Has anyone else been jolted while using Pod HD?
  3. I also have the Behringer B210D. It is okay as a vocal monitor. But not so good for running the pod through it. I just bought an EV ZXA1 yesterday. It's about the same size as the Behringer, but has an 8 inch speaker and it instead of the 10. I played through it last night and it sounds really good. The cost is about the same as the EV ZLX 12p. The L2 is just too expensive. If I need that much power, I rather just use my DT25 and run acoustic patches straight to the PA. Wish Line 6 would devop an L1.... At 1/2 the price of the L2...
  4. I haven't tried the L2. It looks like a more versatile option than the EV, but at twice the cost, it has settings that I don't need. I own a pair of EV ZLX 12p for my PA mains and think they are great. The Variax/Pod thru them sounds as good as a miked up amp or direct acoustic guitar. They are too big and much louder than I need for a monitor in the duo that I currently play in. But would probably be awesome if if you play in a full band situation. I don't think you'd be disappointed with them.
  5. Picked up a clearance Electrovoice ZXA1. It has an 8" sub, but plenty of volume and low end. I actually kicked in the high pass filter because it had too much low end for a monitor. It is about the same size and weight as the Behringer B210D. But definitely not as harsh sounding for electric and distorted guitar sounds from the Pod.
  6. Just wish there were a 10" version of the ZLX 12p !
  7. I'm looking to upgrade my floor monitor that I use for my vocals & HD500. I currently have a behringer B210D. Love the compact size and 19lb weight. It's pretty good for vocals. But the HD500 sounds pretty awful through it. It seems to have a low-mid frequency hump to it, and a harshness that makes the amp models feel cold and digital. Dialing back the lows on the B210D or Eq'ing the Aux send doesn't help much and takes away from the quality of the vocal EQ. My mains are EV ZLX12p. The HD500 sounds ok through them. But they are just too big and overkill for the volume I gig at. I guess the L2 would be good option, but too big and expensive for my set up. Ideally, I'd like a monitor with an 8" or 10" speaker. I have a DT-25 that is the perfect match for the HD, but want a simple set up for the acoustic/electric duo I'm currently in.
  8. I'm still getting a decent amount of low end with the Low Cut setting at 170 Hz. I searched the manual to get a better idea of how the LOW CUT setting in CAB PARAMETERS works. The only mention in the advanced guide is: Knob 2 -Applies low frequency attenuation - helpful to tighten up the low end of your tone. It's not really clear whether it cuts all frequencies below that setting or how many db the cut applies or the frequency width.
  9. But the low cut is a cabinet parameter. So I don't think it's cutting all frequencies under 170 like an EQ or high pass filter. And I only had to adjust my presets that use a Bassman. The JTM-45 and Park 75 sound fine with the low cut 20 Hz. But I'll try rolling it back to 80-100 on the Bassman and see how much the droning bass frequency creeps back in. Thanks
  10. Getting a little off topic here, but I found a solution to the A string resonating and the E and A having too much low end. The problem is related to the Bassman model in my HD500. I use that model about 3/4 of the time direct to PA. But always found that resonating frequency made things too bassy. Especially barre chords and chords with an open A. Using POD edit program, click on AMP, CABINET PARAMETERS. The default for LOW CUT is 20Hz. I dialed it up to 170 Hz and that overbearing bass frequency is much better. HTH
  11. I've got an issue with some low end resonance too. Seems like it is coming from the open A string. It's not always there, so I think it may be related to the JTV model and the HD500. I've had to use some high pass filter and use an EQ on my mixer to drop 125Hz a bit to tame it. Most annoying when I strum a D chord and the open A string ring vibrate a little.
  12. Playing my JTV-59 unplugged tonight and I am getting a little buzzing back by the bridge. Mostly when I play an open D or A string. So I took a look to see what might be loose. Looks like there is a loose wire or something under the bridge. Is this what it should look like? Guess I'll have to take it to a set up shop to track the buzzing down.
  13. So I decided to ditch my amp and go direct to the board for a small show. I was only going to use 2 presets. The first being a preset for the acoustic model in the JTV-59. After getting the PA going and 2 minutes to go time, I tuned up using the HD500. Fire up the channel on the mixer, disengage tuner and - nothing....no volume. Hmm, check variax, VDI cable, XLR outs - all seem ok. Channel on mixer is ok, confirmed with microphone pulled from another channel. Switch prestes, still nothing. Band mates ask "ready". This is getting frustrating. I should have brought an amp. Then I realize I had added an FX loop in one of the blocks at practice the night before. I had hooked up an EQ pedal to take some boominess out of the acoustic. I disabled the FX loop block and bam there's my volume. Just when I think I really know what I'm doing, the POD proves me wrong. Not sure why there's no output when you have an unused FX loop, but I figured others here might benefit from my experience, In the end, the show went well and the POD sounded great. But I'd like to lose 2-3 db of 125Hz like I did using the external 10 band EQ pedal. Any idea which EQ model might be best to accomplish this?
  14. In not a fan of the HiWay model. I think line 6 may have had a dud that they modeled. It is too quiet even with the channel volume cranked. And it never gets the drive that I've heard the actual Hiwatt get. The Vox models are much better for that Who Live at Leeds tone IMO.
  15. Not sure why the JTV is defaulting to Mags when you switch to a preset with "don't force". The usual behavior is to continue using the last model that you last selected. I think the better behavior would be for the JTV to revert to whichever model is current dialed in on th JTV itself if a HD500 preset is set to "don't force" I submitted an Idea on Ideascape: http://line6.ideascale.com/a/dtd/500HD-JTV-models-should-not-carry-over-from-preset-to-preset/532497-23508 But it only has 10 votes supporting...
  16. I guess it's an organizational thing for my setlist. I've got a preset for all 40 songs that my band plays and I just rearrange the setlist in my Pod to match the order of the songs we'll play that night. A few of the patches are identical, but I like having the song name displayed on the Pod. And I just hit the next preset up to get to the next song. I'd like to add a boost to the presets for solos. But I'm not really sold on the sound of some of the other options or the expression pedal method of boosting. I had a Mesa amp with boost footswitch that you could set the level for. Awesome feature - so I'm trying to recreate it with the dream rig... Being able to toggle between amps in a dual setup would be a great way to get the exact tone with a boost an not mess with my setlist system. I think there are so many ways to configure the HD500 & DT 25, that it always leaves me looking for a better way to handle what I want to do!
  17. Unfortunately disabling the amp block to get the DT25 to switch to Channel B isn't a good option for me. I am using 4-5 different amp Pre's,in my setlist. So adjusting the settings on Channel B of the amp to match and add channel volume would be a huge PIA. The Dt25 Connectivity manual is a little vague about the SETUP - L6 LINK:CONTROL: You can configure the HD500 to have the DT25 use Amp A or Amp B as the basis for Channel A. But then there is a section that reads: • MIDI CH XX: Select any available MIDI Channel, other than the MIDI Channels auto-assigned to Amp Model A & Amp Model B, to set the respective DT amp’s L6 LINK - MIDI Channel. By setting more than one DT amplifier to the same MIDI Channel, their front panel controls will be synced. But I think that only applies to situations using more than one DT25 amp. Is anyone using dual amp tones our of the HD500 into a Dt amplifier? I guess I just don't understand how the DT25 handles dual amp tones.
  18. Is there a way to get the the DT 25 to use 'Either' Amp A or Amp B in a dual tone preset from the HD500? I've set up a dual tone preset in the HD500 and assigned the amp blocks to the same footswitch on the HD500. Hitting the footswtich turns off Amp A and turns on Amp B. The purpose of this would be to set Amp B channel slightly higher using the same Amp Pre to get a boost. Or it could be used to to toggle between 2 different amp block tones. Everything works ok as long as I have Amp A selected in the HD500, but when I hit the switch, the DT25 acts as if no amp block were selected and changes itself to Channel B on the amp.
  19. I've been trying to find some solutions to creating a clean boost. I'd like to have footswitch assigned that I can kick on for the moments playing live when I realize I need just a little extra volume or solo boost. So far I've worked with: Screamer with drive at zero and output at about 75% (too much drive added, not clean enough) Parametric EQ with EQ untouched, output to 81 Boost Comp with comp at zero output at 85 The last 2 options are ok, but not really transparent. Anyone found better options? Either before the amp block or after? Any settings you can share? I've read about using the FX loop and a short cable, but I am using the send to feed the PA for my Variax acoustics, so that's not an option I want to work with.
  20. I've been watching this discussion go on, and resisted jumping in, but I guess it's time... I think all of the included models in the DT25 standalone are fantastic with little tweaking. If someone were considering buying a DT25 and HD500, I would tell them not to if they didn't like the sound of the DT25 on its own. Adding the HD500 to the equation isn't going make you like the amp if you don't think it's great on its own. And the HD500 adds so many more options that you'll be chasing your tail looking for your magical tone. The HD500 is a great recording device and probably 90% as good as recording the actual amps is simulates. The effects are also 90% as good as stomp effects, but at a fraction the cost and without the usual pedalboard hassles. As for the DT25 becoming obsolete, it depends on how gear addicted you are. Every amp brand works to make their next amp the one that makes you wish you'd waited. Marshall Plexi 100 owners probably wished they'd waited and bought a JCM800 for the high gain sound. Marshall Mode 4 was the answer when everyone wanted Mesa high gain, but the abilty to get the old Marshall tone too. Now Marshall has a 4 star rated amp JVM 410H. Guess what - "it's versatilty is up there with the best and so are the tones". So when my Dt25 dies, I should be able to get another one for cheap because Line 6 will probably have crated 4 newer versions and the DT series will be old hat. And this forum will probably be full of complainers ranting about how Line 6 should have stuck with the DT voicings because they were so much better. Now the original thread was about spending too much time tweaking and not enough time developing guitar skills. Seems to me ALOT of us are spending too much time reading and posting on a forum. I, for one, am going to resist the temptation and not read or post so I can figure out how to sing and play a Santana song. After I check back and see how this post gets flamed.....no I won't...ok maybe just once..no don't...ok go ahead and read, but don't post...argghhh...
  21. Hot Damn you are correct! I had read in the MeAmBobbo guide that setting input 2 to Same caused noise or combing filtering problems. He suggested using Input 1: Guitar Input 2:Variax To cut noise and prevent signal overload when not using a Dual Amp setup. I changed the inputs to Input1: Variax Input 2: Same And now the Park Pre is really close to the Park in the DT25. Can't wait to try out the other Marshall models with this setting!
  22. Input 1 Source: Variax Input 2 Source: Guitar Guitar in - Z: Auto Inputs Set up: Global The defaults in the mixer are panned 100% for Volume A and Volume B. When creating presets, I usually pan them 33% and get a little more output. But for my comparison last night I left them at the default.
  23. I am running JTV via VDI cable into HD500. Then L6 link into DT25. The HD500 detects the DT25 and changes the output mode to match. The DT25 is in full volume mode. I selected a New Tone in the HD500 and chose the Park Pre. Then I matched the drive and tone settings in voice 2 of the DT25 channel B. Turning the amp block on & off in the HD500 toggles the Dt25 back $ forth from channel A &B. There was definetly more drive on channel B. Anything I could be missing here? The only other factor might be the default mixer setting in the HD500 New Tone preset? I'll try to experiment a little more tonight.
  24. I did a comparison last night with the models on the DT25 in standalone, versus the models in the HD500. With the Park 75 Pre (not the full model with power-amp sim) , the HD500 just doesn't have the same amount of gain as the DT25 in standalone. Even with the drive cranked, it just doesn't have that ooomph. So I changed the amp to the full version and - wow - that's more like it. When I originally set up the Park and Marshalls, I used the Pre versions in the HD500. And they just didn't have enough of that Marshall gain. Even with the drive maxxed, I still had to add a tube screamer block in front to get enough gain, especially for leads versus rhythm sounds. I'm not talking about a ton of gain. I had tried to get a "Jimmy Page Heartbreaker" tone using the Plexi Lead 100 Pre with the drive at 100% and still needed a Tube Screamer to get close. But I switched to the full model, and I was able to back the drive down and POW! there is is. I had the master volume on DT25 at about 75% and the channel volume pretty low. I know it is documented that the voicing of the models in DT25 are based on the Pre versions in the HD500, but after making this comparison, I'm not so sure! I will probably leave my clean amp presets alone. But I think all of the Marshalls sound so much better using the full versions in the HD500. The JTM45 full is pure AC/DC crunch and I never got that out of the Pre voicing.
  25. If you're talking about the behavior of the Variax models in POD HD500, there's no fix for it. I posted the same concern in the Variax forum: http://line6.com/support/topic/2714-jtv-models-in-500hd-presets/ I think the presets should switch back to the model selected by the Variax when changing presets. I posted a request on Ideascape for it. Maybe if it gets enough support, Line 6 will fix it in a future update. http://line6.ideascale.com/a/dtd/500HD-JTV-models-should-not-carry-over-from-preset-to-preset/532497-23508
