  1. Anyone else had server issues? When I start up Line 6 monkey (v 1.7), it hangs for a long time (4-5 minutes)on the start up screen "contacting Line 6 server". When it finally goes to the next screen, it says "could not connect to Line 6 server to determine if updates are available. Make sure you are connected to the Internet and click check for updates" I've been getting this message since I purchased the new model packs and wanted to install them. i even removed the Monkey program from my computer (Windows 7) and re-downloaded & reinstalled it. Last night, I just figured the server was overloaded by everyone downloading and installing the model packs. But I couldn't get it to log on this morning or tonight. My internet connection is fine. The other issue I may have is that the email address that was listed in my account is no longer active. So when I purchased the model packs, it sent an email to an account that I no longer use or have access to. Is there an activation code in the email that gets generated when you buy the model packs? Or are the model packs installed when you log in to Line 6 Monkey?
  2. I did a quick video explaining a simple set up to use the HD500X for guitar and vocals into powered speakers. My usual band set up is Variax--HD500X--Mackie Mixer--Powered EV speakers Vocal Mic --TC Helicon VoiceLive Play-- mixer -- Roland Drums direct to mixer Bass direct to mixer IEM for me & bassist/floor monitor for drums But I wanted the simplest setup possible for doing solo shows. The HD500X rocks. Vocals sound almost as good as the Helicon (I do miss the pitch correction a little...) By using dual input patches, I can do a solo show with Variax VDI cable HD500X 3 XLR cables Microphone Mic Stand iPhone (for backing trax) 1/8 to 1/8 cable one or two powered speakers. Entire setup can fit on the back seat of my car! YouTube link is
  3. So if most L2/L3 owners are running in Pa mode, I'm wondering if there's any real advantage over just using an ElectroVoice ZLX12p as an 'amp' for the HD500. I use the EV as a PA main. I'll have to put it on the floor and see how it compares to the DT25.
  4. With prices dropping on the stage source speakers, I'm comparing options of the Hd500x with the Dt25 or using an L2m as a stage amp. Would be nice to get the great electric mode tones and then be able to switch to acoustic on the Variax and get those tones as well. But if you need to send a feed to the house mixer, I've heard others say that it's best to run the L2 in PA mode and run the line out to the house mixer. In that case, don't you lose a lot of the 'amp feel' on stage of running the L2 in electric guitar mode? Might as well just use any FRFR speaker on stage if that's the case. The nice thing about the DT25 is that it has the line out with cab simulation so you get a nice sound going to the house mixer. But the L2 doesn't do that, correct? Would like to hear how others have used their L2 as a guitar amp live. Thanks
  5. Did they preview the new amp models at NAMM? Would love to hear what they sound like....
  6. Correct. It was only 1 amp, but the description said it was tested & confirmed to work with the HD500. Too bad, it was less than $10. But they did give me a full refund.
  7. I was looking for a replacement power supply that didn't cost $50 like the Line 6 OEM. This one didn't work. Powered up, but hd500x just cycled the start up screen: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00L5YY40W/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_z20Nub1CPZHPG This one did the job: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00GQWSYQ8/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_760Nub1H7MMM2 Not as robust as the OEM, but a great replacement to the one thing that could kill a show if the original died. And less than $20 including shipping.
  8. I noticed the same with my HD500 & DT-25 when I first got them. I found the tones matched up best when I used Pre amps, left cabs on, and set input 2 to SAME. Where the physical master knob on HD500 is set has less impact on the sound, but it is suggested to leave it up 100%. I like the master on the the DT set at about 3/4 to get the power tubes hot.
  9. I don't use any dual amp patches, but use a little room or spring reverb after the mixer block. For awhile I ran just left XLR out to the mixer. But then I switched to L&R XLR and panned them L&R. The sound feels more full and responsive. Ymmv
  10. Here's a thread that I started a while back. A little ways down, there is a zip file with a setlist containing a basic, fairly leveled preset list with every amp pre in the hd500. Might be a good way to click through each amp to find the ones you like. I think the inputs on the presets are set Input 1: Variax Input 2: same You will want to change input 1 to Guitar
  11. I agree. I have the EV ZLX12P do my PA mains. Sound great with the HD500.
  12. I should have the 500X this Wednesday. So I'll probably put the 500 up on Craigslist for $225 on Thursday. It is on great shape. I'm in CT, but travel all over New England. If you're interested in purchasing, send me an IM.
  13. Didn't need to upgrade - not enough difference between HD500 and HD500X. Well, my eyes are not as good as they were. Brighter display, better switches. A little more DSP, might be useful. No new products on Line 6 horizon (sorry Amplifi) Stupid threads claiming X sounds better... $299 used in GC website.... Sold! For sale - used HD500 $200 Is this the worst place to try to sell one?
  14. Here are Zip files for all amps to the DT25. The reason I set the Inputs to 1=Variax 2=Same is a result of a post I made in the DT25 forum. I was trying to get the gain on the Park 75 model in the HD500 to match the gain of the same model when using the Dt25 standalone. I just couldn't get the HD500 models to sound like the standalone models. One of the gurus mentioned that the HD500 second input should be set to Same. He was right as far as I could tell. The models sounded so much closer. http://line6.com/support/topic/3262-hd500-amp-pre-vs-full-models/ I think the reason I set the mixer to 33% L&R was to get the volume to match up versus standalone. That is my goal too. I'd like the volume of the amp models on the HD500 to closely match the same amp models in the DT25. It's a little hard to do because there is a lot of disconnecting/reconnecting of cables to do. Also Attached is the most up to date version of my JTV-59 models. Should be pretty close in volume. I adjusted a few string volumes. I've heard some say that this might vary on Variaxes because the piezo pickups and individual guitar set ups can change the string volumes a bit. 15. I'm using windows 7. I have to hold down Ctrl and Alt while dragging and dropping. Just holding Ctrl does the same as dragging & dropping. It moves the patch to the new location and rearranges the setlist.
  16. I used the Lester 1 position. But I went through all of the Variax models in workbench leveled their volumes as well. I tried to make each one as close to the output of the magnetic pickups in the JTV-59 as possible. I'm still tweaking them a bit, but their close. Guess that would be another chart to post..,
  17. When I wanted to try out the different amp models in the HD500 thru my DT25, it drove me crazy with the volume differences. So I went through each model and tried to find a nice drive level and adjusted the channel volume so that each amp model was reasonably close in volume. I created a chart of the different models and settings that got me close. Also, I keep the mixer block at 0 db and panned 33% L&R. I use the Input 1= Variax Input 2=Same when I run into my DT25. Attached is my chart. I would upload the setlist, but I'm not sure if that can be done here or has to go through Custom Tone. I also made a section at the bottom for the different overdrives. Just like the amps, if you add drive, you need to bring the volume down to maintain the same volume level. I wish these were the default settings for the amps! Why so many amps and amp pre's default to 100% channel volume is a mystery that will never be unraveled. And it has scared the crap out of me too many times... So here it is. Criticism is welcome! 18. Just rebooted Workbench via HD500. Wow that's fast - loads in less than 5 seconds! Not sure why it took a minute the first time. So forget my earlier post.
  19. Updated last night via the Variax dongle (I backed up my Variax presets because I've spent a lot of time getting strings & volumes leveled). No problems. Workbench Software runs great via the HD500. The models load slightly faster into Workbench when I first started it up. Still took about a minute to get all 60 models loaded. No issues or complaints here. A very nice update!
  20. I bought Schallet locking tuners model 2900/chrome on Amazon for $77 a few months ago for my JTV-59. Easy install nice tuners. String changes are much quicker.
  21. I thought the pod pre's lacked the punch and gain of DT-25 standalone. One of the experts mentioned that input settings should be set to Input 1 Guitar (or Variax if that's what you use) Input 2 Same. When Input 2 was set to Aux, it just didn't sound as good. I don't know if the pod pre's sound exact as the DT, but they are damn close and sound great to me.
  22. Just wondering how many here have stuck with the default settings for a new Patch for outputting in to a PA system or FRFR... Mixer panned 100% L & R Input set to "Same" for input 2 Guitar In Z set to Auto Amp Model Master volume set to 100% Physical volume knob on HD500 set at full volume to PA Guitar In switch set to Normal For a while I set all my patches with the mixer panned 33% L & R Input 2 to AUX Guitar in Z to Auto Amp Model Master volume set to 75% for cleaner amps, 100% for higher gain amps Physical volume knob on HD500 set at 3:00 to PA I sort of used bits of info from different sources on the forums, etc.to arrive at these settings. Then I set up the Keith Richards patch via the video by Line6Tony. He basically used the defaults, but changed the speaker cabinet on the Bassman to a Twin 2x12 cabinet. And the patch sounds amazingly accurate. So now I'm looking at going back to the defaults for all of my patches. I seems like the first 2 items listed probably offset each other anyways - with panning more toward center raising the level and choosing AUX instead of Same reducing the level.
  23. I have to disagree on the input settings. I found the stock models on the DT25 sound more like the Hd500 when input 2 is set to Same. The Park especially has more gain and sustain
  24. Reaper is a full blown multitrack recording program, similar to Pro Tools. (But at less than 10% the cost). You can use just about any recording hardware to connect to your computer to get the signal into Reaper. But It is probably overkill if all you want to do is record one or two tracks. It is a bit complex if you are new to recording on your computer. You might want to take a look at Audacity. It is free, but has some pretty good features. Much simplistic to use if you just want to record a couple tracks over a backing track.
