I don't think using the B205D to tweak your settings on the POD500 is a good idea. It only has a 5.25" speaker, so it won't give you a very good idea of what your sound is going to be like through a PA with 12" or 15" subs. The POD's EQ section is pretty dynamic to changes as heard through my PA. But I could crank the bass on the POD into my Behringer B205D and it wouldn't make that big a difference because that 5.25" speaker doesn't project much bass. You would be much better off plugging in to your PA and setting your tones at the volume your audience will hear. Use your AUX out from the mixer to the B205D and use the volume, bass and treble on the B205D to tweak what you want to hear. It isn't going to sound as good to you as your audience, but it will probably be ok. Running a POD into an amp will sound much better than into the Behringer. But in that set up, I would mike the amp for the PA.

Use Tone Knob As Whammy Bar
oehman replied to oehman's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Yeeeah! I took the trem arm out of my Stat because it wasn't worth the aggravation. Now my Variax has earned another reason to stay strap loaded and out of the stand... Sorry Strat. -
Use Tone Knob As Whammy Bar
oehman replied to oehman's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Thanks Much! Will set this up tonight. -
I saw a post that outlined how to set the HD500 so that you could use the tone knob on JTV-59 to do a dive bomb whammy. But I searched the forums and can't find it. I'd like the pitch to be normal with the tone at 100% and drop as it's turned down. I tried a setting it up tonight, at 100%, the pitch was ultra high. And as I twisted the knob, it got crazy sounding. The POD advanced guide doesn't really give enough detail. Has anyone got this set up or know where the post went? It actually had screen shots. I should have bookmarked it! Thanks

That is definitely the most frustrating thing about all components of the 'dream'. The JTV-59 has models that are way too quiet. It takes a few hours of sessions to level them in Workbench. Both the DT25 and HD500 have amp models that vary way too much in volume. The Hiway 100 is unusuable. This is supposed to be a 100 watt amp that the Who used? Then why is is it quieter than a Fender Twin or a Supro with a 6x9 speaker? Even with mixer maxed and the channel volume 100%, the volume can't come close to the Mesa. There are enough amp models that I can find 4-6 favorites and get great sounds, but it would be so much better if the models were reasonably close in volume from the start. I understand Line 6 trying model accurately. But the differences in volume between models probably causes a lot of guitarists to give up and sell or return their pods and amps out of frustration.

I just went back and re-read the manual. I guess that would be RRTFM. The section that I cut and pasted in my previous post was from the section regarding 300HD & 400HD. The section regarding 500HD reads: • The DT amp REVERB knob for the active Channel independently controls the DT amp’s built-in Reverb - it does not adjust any Reverb model that you may have active within your POD HD Preset. Therefore, you’ll probably want to use either the DT amp’s Reverb or add a Reverb model to your POD HD Tone. So our rig is operating as designed. Not sure why the reverb knob functions differently on the 500HD. Sorry for the confusion.
-
Tested my rig tonight and got the same results as you. Looks like the manual is wrong. Not sure where we go from here. I don't think this would be a service ticket request since i dont think our rigs are defective. Anyone know how we report this to Line 6? Having the reverb knob on the amp control the reverb on the 500HD would be cool. Maybe they need to a firmware update.

Acoustic Tones Via Dream Rig. Is It Possible?
oehman replied to GeeTah's topic in Dream Rig - Line 6 Product Integration
I created a 500HD preset to use when I want to use the acoustic through the PA and monitors and mute the signal to the DT25. All EQ's and a little reverb are before the FX Loop Block, followed by the mixer. The mixer has the volume turned all the way down. That is followed by a noise gate. When you click on this preset from a preset that has an amp model, the DT25 switches to channel B, but no signal is being sent there. I put the noise gate on just in case DT25 channel B is cranked with a high gain amp. . The FX send from the 500HD goes to the PA. I tried it tonight at low volume and I think it works... -
I like the basis of this topic - a 'let's start from the ground up' approach. I'm not sure why you are hearing the room reverb on channel A when the 500hd is hooked up via L6 cable. According to the manual: • When the DT amp is in Channel A, the amplifier’s Reverb is disabled, however, the amplifier’s Channel A REVERB knob will control the POD HD REVERB Mix amount. This allows you to adjust the Reverb Mix from either device, but you’ll always be hearing the Reverb Model as configured on POD HD. Maybe it is because you changed channel A reverb via midi? Did you try changing it back to the default? I wouldn't think it should matter that you changed the reverb. It should still disable it and the reverb knob on the amp should control the reverb you've selected on the 500HD 2 other things to check - have you updated firmware on DT50 and 500HD & are you sure there is only 1 reverb in your 500HD effects? (Sorry, just trying to eliminate the obvious here....)
-
So if reverb or delay effects are placed after the amp block and mixer on the 500HD, they sound the same as if they were in the effects loop of the DT25 effects loop?
-
Took the plunge and bought a DT25 yesterday! When hooking up the HD500 via L6 link, how are the effects processed in the DT25? Are effects placed after the amp block treated as if they are part of the effects loop of the amp? Is this sort of like a Four Cable Method, but with just 2 cables?

Replacement Usb Interface Device
oehman replied to ddalton's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
My used JTV didn't have the interface in the case. So GC ordered me one and then the original turned up. So I have an extra one. Send me a PM with your address and I'll send it to you. My experience with Line 6 customer service has been top notch. I'm surprised they wouldn't ship you an interface for a reasonable fee. $100 is robbery for that little plastic box!- 19 replies

Jtv Models In 500hd Presets
oehman replied to oehman's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
I think the best solution would be to add "JTV Current Model" to the options under 2) Model: The function of "Don't Force" could stay the same. -
Jtv Models In 500hd Presets
oehman replied to oehman's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Maybe I'm getting spoiled by having so much control between JTV & POD HD...... But I don't like it! It's not a huge deal, but it's a little confusing to switch to a preset and have that preset hold over the previous model from the previous preset. If the tuning from a previous preset doesn't carry over, the model shouldn't carry over either. -

Not sure if this post should be here or POD HD forum--- I am trying to set up a bank of presets: A: preset that uses an acoustic model and no amp block B: preset that uses Lester into Park 75 C: preset that uses current model on JTV into Dr Z D: preset that uses current model on JTV into Bassman This works well going from A to B or B to A But if I switch from A to C or A to D, the acoustic model stays active. Same problem if I go B to C or B to D - Lester stays active For the presets C & D On page 7 of the Settings page, I have 1) Variax control: Preset 2) Model: Don't Force 3) Local Control : Unlocked 4) Tone: 100% Is this a bug? Why can't these presets revert back to the model I've got dialed on the JTV59?

This must be listed somewhere, but I haven't found it. What specific HD amp pre's are used for the four voicings of the DT25? I'm guessing it's Fender Twin Park 75 Vox AC30 Mesa Double Rectifier And DT25 is using amp pre's with default cabinets and microphones? So if you hook up the 500HD and choose no amp block, those are the amps you are hearing? And if you choose those blocks on the 500HD while connected via L6 link, the sound doesn't change because the DT25 uses the same exact settings? Thanks

Workbench Preset Volume
oehman replied to oehman's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Crap. I thought I could save a bank by clicking on the header before saving. It highlighted the 5 positions for the bank that I named and saved them. But I guess you have to load (double click on) a model, then click the bank header and then save as a bank. I just re-saved and uploaded them. Workbench is still new to me.... Sorry for the mix-up. -
Workbench Preset Volume
oehman replied to oehman's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
OK uploaded as All Models Output Adjusted to match http://www.vguitarforums.com/smf/index.php?topic=9388.0 Thanks -
File this under: "I should have noticed that..." The biggest problem with the 2.0 models, for me, was the low output of the Spank models. So I tried boosting the pickups in all Spank models to the max 6db. It sounded better, but still not as loud as my American Strat. Then I noticed the "Preset Volume" on the bottom left of the Workbench HD interface. Genius! I raised the preset volume of all Spank models 4db and set the pickup outputs to +4.5 db. Perfect. The "preset volume" resolves the other thing that bothered about the Variax. The volume of the models is designed to match the guitars that Line 6 modeled. So the Lester is naturally loudest. But I want all my models to play with the same output, so switching models in in mid-set (or mid song) doesn't require changing pedal or amp settings. So I went through all the models and matched their volume to the Lester model. Then, I adjusted the height of the actual pickups in the guitar so the their output matched the output of the Lester model. Then, I connected the Variax through Workbench and played each model vs. the Lester model. It takes some time, but I raised each model to match the output of Lester. I did this because the output of Lester is actually really close to my actual Les Paul. Most of the models needed a little extra output. One of the acoustics needed a db reduction, so I typed in -1. I'm sure many veterans of Workbench knew about the Preset Volume. But it sure was a perfect fix for the minor gripes I had with he Variax. I don't usually like to tinker with stuff this much, but it was well worth it! Spank sounds damn good now! Thanks

Hurry Please, I Want My Decent Strat Back
oehman replied to Melissiah's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
It is a JTV-59 Korea. Do you recall which preset you downloaded? I made a couple of short videos to show how the Spank 2.0 lacks the output of 1.9 and all of the other 2.0 models, but I can't get them uploaded to YouTube. If I figure it out, I will post the links here. Thanks -
I have a JTV-59 Korea and tried to do a factory reset this morning. It was unsucessful. Plugged in cable while hoilding Model knob down (for at least 20 seconds), but the lights never lit. Before I did the 2.0 upgrade, It worked fine. Tonight I'm going to try and flash down to 1.9 and back up again. Since 2.0, the Spank model has so much less output that it isn't usable. I'm thinking something might have gotten lost in the update to 2.0.

Hurry Please, I Want My Decent Strat Back
oehman replied to Melissiah's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
I just updated to 2.0 and think all models except Spank sound better than 1.9. There is a big difference in the output of Spank vs all the other models and the tone lacks the personality of my stock US 10 year old Strat with rosewood neck. I think the 1.9 was actually closer to the real thing, especially the neck pickup. And I didn't have to turn my amp of 2-3 notches to get the same volume as the Lester model (or my actual Strat). Maybe the firmware update didn't take properly? Is everyone else's Spank 2.0 this quiet? I updated twice and the Spank is still ALOT quieter than everything except the Tele's I changed 2 of the Tunings after the first update and they did not get overwritten after the second update. So does the update only effect the Models? And the volume of the modeled Strat is 3/4 the volume of my actual Strat. Maybe thats the difference between a 50's Strat and a newer one? Sorry for so many questions in my first post... Still not sure if I want to go back to 1.9. I probably used the Spank position 5 more than any other model. But it's just not as fun now. :( I hate spending a lot of time tinkering, but I guess that's the only solution to getting the best of both worlds. The Lester sounds pretty close to my 15 year old LP. Maybe Line 6 is working on another Strat model for those of us that feel like the 2.0 Strat has let us down....
