Understand and agree. I too love my USA-made stuff; most of it the old school gear that hasn't been made here in years.

...just like the rest of the amp. I don't know why that's an issue though.

Pairing With Both Ios And Mac At The Same Time
archtopeddy replied to anthonybest's topic in AMPLIFi
Ditto. Same here. -
+1 on what Phil said. I know I've made comments here about it not being ideal for gigs, however, my comments have to do with the need for more flexibility (.i.e., additional preset tones), and a preference to see a more robust blue tooth capability -- it does not have to do with volume, which I think is more than sufficient for my uses with a drummer (and percussionist) in reggae, surf, jump blues, and jazz. This isn't the amp for bands where the drummer tries to sound louder than everyone else and everyone else tries to sound louder than the drummer and everyone else. Frankly, I don't see why anyone would think it was. Just look at it. You can see it's not designed to go head-to-head with a Marshall stack.

Agree with your Radatats! I think Line 6 can make it a better amp -- and I think they will.
-
I think that's a great attitude to have Guitarplayer, and I think Line 6 will implement improvements too. Just trying to help 'em rack-and-stack the ideas (based on my wants, of course. ha ha!)

While I agree that it is not the best gigging amp, I have to disagree with your statement about it not being marketed as such. This is from Line 6's website... Ever take the stage and feel like your guitar amp just can’t keep up? With AMPLIFi, that’ll never be a problem. With 150 watts, you can be sure your tone will cut through loud and clear.
-
I agree with you about the limits of just four tones. This is why I've suggested via IdeaScale for multiple preset banks. In this way at least, there could be 8, 12, or 16 patches to work from. Line 6 seems interested in this idea in that they have elevated the idea to "in review" status. Nonetheless, people who think this is a good idea should consider voting for it here: Add more preset tone banks to AMPLIFI Based on threads here at the forum, it appears an Android app and use for the USB input are among the most requested features. But for me (and this is just me speaking...), I think the most important things Amplifi needs to do is make the "amp" within Amplifis more robust, dependable and flexible for live application. To me, this means two things initially: first, more preset banks; second, a more robust and dependable bluetooth connection (if that is possible). Other things come to mind too, but for me these are the top two for a working, useable amp. Until then, I will be reluctant to take my Amplifi to gigs and favor my old-school Fenders instead. Being first a reliable and useful amp should be Amplifis starting position -- all the rest are bells and whistles ( cool bells and whistles! ) that should supplement a gigable working man's amp.
-
You could, but me... I'd avoid using the bluetooth for any live application where I absolutely must have 100 percent connectivity. I'm afraid I'd be setting myself up for frustration. Instead, I'd find a way to stick with the four tones in the amp, use pedals as appropriate, and reach over and physically adjust the volume knob as needed. Basically, not much different than I would do with any other amp. I'd stick with a sure thing -- namely cables and what's already physically adjustable on the amp. If you need to connect "backing tracks", use the aux stereo input as Triryche has suggested. With this said, the bluetooth feature is a generally dependable feature if used correctly (keeping iphone/ipad with a few feet from the amp with a direct, nonobstructed line of sight). It's great for jamming around the house, playing backing tracks, playing music and finding new tones. I use it everyday in this manner. But for live gigs or recordings, I wouldn't depend on the bluetooth.

I'm about to sound schizophrenic here -- but some testing with my iphone and Amplifi amp seems to confirm some of Phil's comments. If I set my iphone in a direct beeline, unobstructed path with the amp, and it is within 6-8 feet, the bluetooth connection seems to hold -- mostly. Connection problems start happening when the path between the top of the iphone (meaning the top edge where there's the headphone jack and on/off switch) and the amp is obstructed. If I cup my hand over the top the iphone and aim it at the amp, it will start skipping or cut off the connection all together. This happened at distances as close as 3 feet. I like to play guitar sitting at my couch with my iphone next to me. Sometimes a TV remote, a magazine, or book of charts gets in front of the iphone and that's when things start skipping. Also, if I cross one leg over the other and my big fat foot gets between the iphone and amp, again -- skipping and loss of connection. So as you see, there is a fairly easy answer to all of this -- keep the line of sight between your iphone and amp clear of any obstructions. Also, I tried this with and without my iphone case. It didn't seem to matter a whole lot; same symptoms. For what it's worth, same basic problem also occurs with the Bose Soundlinkl. If I cup my hand over the top of the phone, it affects the bluetooth connection. I know this is pretty basic stuff, but I thought I'd share it with you in case it might be of some use. AE

FYI: I upgraded my Amplifi 150 firmware to version 1.05 a while ago. I use an iPhone 4S. Now, when I go to "Settings" in my Amplifi app, under (About)"About AMPLIFI Remote"> "Version" it says: 1.00.1. However, from "Settings">(Updates) "Amp Flash>, it shows a little graphic of an amp with 150 written on it and says "Amp Flash Version: 1.00.5" When I upgraded my firmware, it took a couple of tries -- and as I recall, it took a bit of time. It wasn't easy to determine if it was working or when it was done since I don't recall a graph to show loading status. I just let it load for a while (like an hour or more), and eventually it loaded the 1.00.5. Shortly thereafter, after rebooting the phone and program, it showed up as 1.00.5 in the settings as noted above. That was when I knew it was actually upgraded. This doesn't directly answer your question, but I hope some of this helps. AE

Hi. For what it's worth, I'd like to politely differ from Phil's point here, i.e., that it has to do with the phone's bluetooth streaming capability and not the amp itself. I have little technical knowledge about bluetooth technology, but I can say from personal experience that my Bose Soundlink's bluetooth connection works much better than my Amplifi 150 -- and this, while using the same iPhone. The Bose seldom looses connection and it has a much greater range -- twenty feet plus and it doesn't seem to need a straight line of sight. I believe the Amplifi can and should have a more robust bluetooth capability. I think Line 6 thinks so as well since they are gathering user data and looking into it.

The answer is yes, but you will need to move back and forth between your apps. See here for more about running other IOS audio/apps via the AMPLIFI. http://line6.com/support/topic/6889-is-it-working-with-all-ios-apps/

Thanks! Love the geetar in your avatar. Is it a Jazzmaster?
-
Thanks Line6Don for the above input. While we have you on line, let me ask you the following... Even with the updated FW... have you noticed the same experience as many users here that the Bluetooth connection is spotty and often very short-ranged? Is Line 6 looking into this? I think a more robust and dependable bluetooth connection is the most important adjustment Line 6 needs to make on the Amplifi. Without it, any bluetooth function simply isn't dependable for recording, gigs or even home use and significantly narrows Amplifi's usefulness and appeal. AE

Hi everyone. Please consider voting for the following suggestion I just posted at Ideascale. Thanks! AE Easy way to delete Favorite Tones You should be able to delete Favorite tones via an "edit" button similar to the "edit" button in My Tones. Right now, there's no way to delete a favorite tone unless you go back to the song from where you selected it and deselect it. It's unrealistic to expect people to remember every song where they marked a favorite; before long their favorites list becomes chocked full of undeleteable tones. At the very least, you should be able to click back to the song from where the favorite was selected so you can delete it from there.

Does Line 6 Offer Free Mp3 Backing Track Downloads?
archtopeddy replied to azion22's topic in AMPLIFi
Thanks fellas for the play-along recommendations! I have tracks from jamtrackcentral and I use them all the time (everyday, actually!). Good recommendation Crusinon. Lots of stuff on the guitarbackingtrack site too -- thanks Rewolf. And Pro Band is very cool. Already bought a bunch of tracks for the price of a couple of burger and fries. Lookin' forward to getting to 'em! (If anybody's interested in Django Reinhart style play-alongs, there's a good app called Gypsy Jazz Jam. Real acoustic instruments so it sounds like you're playing with the Hot Club of France!) AE -
For me, as I noted earlier, the bluetooth connection is more of a convenience factor. Overall, it's a good sound. If I'm being specific, I'd have to note: I have the AMPLIFI 150 and it seems a bit bassy at low volumes (probably due to the larger speaker). At higher volumes it sounds much better (more balanced). If I plug my iPhone directly into the Amplifi with a stereo 1/8 inch cable, it sounds a little bit clearer -- but not enough to be a show stopper. I also think the bluetooth Bose Soundlink speaker I have sounds just a bit clearer, but again not by much. Overall, it's a good sound. For me, the spotiness of the AMPLIFI's bluetooth connectivity is the bigger issue and I hope they can get that ironed out. For what it's worth, the Bose's bluetooth connectivity is much more reliable. AE

I don't know if this helps any but I'll restate my comment as: "any sound or musical source that I can play on my iPhone, I can transmit to the AMPLIFI via the bluetooth."
-
I use an iPhone 4S. Basically, anything I can play through my iPhone, I can play through through the AMPLIFI via the bluetooth. I don't have a lot of the apps you have but I do have -- and have used -- iRealB, YouTube, various "recorders", my music library, and my iPhone itself (as a speaker). Works well overall, but as RealZap noted, not the best sound for monitoring. It's more a convenience factor. AE

Got a few laying around the house -- all lefties. 37' Gibson Charile Christian ES-150, 28' Gibson L-4, an Eastman ES-175-type I use for gigs, and a few others including a bunch of Gypsy Jazz guitars. Lately, been spending more time on my various Strats... AE

Thanks Tony. Don't want to be dense here (but it wouldn't be the first time for me...). And it never hurts to be absolutely sure so... if I've upgraded to version 1.00.5, I'm golden -- right?

Hi Shakey. It looks like you're getting the hang of Amplifi. Kind'a confusing at times since there is no proper manual for the Remote App. Earlier when I first bought the amp, I had a lot of questions and folks here were very helpful. Also, given that there was no manual, I started marking my app operating "discoveries" as OPERATING TIP so I and others could find them again. Some of these tips are simple and some are step-by-step directions and may cover things you already know. Anyway, if you want to see them, go back to the main forum page and search for OPERATING TIP (in the field in the upper right with with the magnifying glass). Be sure the search area is set to "forum". AE

Good point Shakey -- and I think you may be right about the AMPLIFI Remote vs Firmware. I still would like to know if there is a V1.0.4 or if that is a mistake. AE
-
No. I don't believe it does. I've left it on all day and even overnight. I don't know about energy consumption, but it didn't seem to do it any harm. AE
