    I understand where the discussion is coming from because it does seem that the Strat models changed as much/more than any of the other models with the new HD models. However I have to say that I think the new models are more dynamic and you can get a great sound out of them. My only complaint, if there is one, is that the Strat they modeled is a bit on the bright side of things and it can be a little challenging to "blend" them with the other guitar models. I tend to put a bank of my favorites together to make my "dream guitar" as my go to sound rather than just using the Start bank, Les Paul bank, Tele bank, etc. But that is in no way a criticism of the Strat tone they got. For anyone using workbench to "fix" the sound of the Strat a couple things I found is you can drop the resistance setting of the tone knob to take off a little of the high end. Also, which is what ended up being my preferred method, I use the natural body setting with the Strat pickups. BTW I'm doing this with the JTV69, I haven't tested this with the JTV59 yet. Doing this I've found that it tames the high end a bit and helps things sit better together when I'm using say a Strat neck for clean/rhythm sounds and flip over to a Les Paul bridge sound for lead. These are just my opinions and as always YMMV. As others have stated if you absolutely love the sound of the 1.9 firmware then maybe it's best to stay there. If it's not broke don't fix it :) BTW, here's a clip of me doing some SRV using the neck position Strat pickup with the natural body setting. It's running into an HD500X.     I have experienced exactly the same issue as you have described. I think I posted something about this a while back and was told it was most likely due to the difference of 1/4" analog cable vs digital signal and AD/DA conversion. It's kind of an aggravating trade off to choose between the benefits of having digital control when switching patches via the VDI or a usable sound from the mags using the 1/4". If I'm going to use the mags I just skip the VDI all together. If there is a work around for this I'm thrilled, but I think it may be unavoidable due to the differences in the way the analog signal gets delivered to the HD500(X). I suppose Line 6 could theoretically compensate for this via the firmware, but that's totally speculation on my part.

    Thanks! Yes, it's the latest firmware. I'm running it through an HD500X with the latest firmware as well. Pretty much the same patch I used with my HD500. It's based on a Dr Z amp model and PHD cab miced with U87 mic model. Here's a link to the patch: http://line6.com/customtone/tone/547219/# I recorded the video using a Zoom H4n. One side of the HD went direct into the Zoom while the other side went to my Alto TS110A and the built in mics on the H4n captured that. When editing I just blended them together, but I didn't do any post processing of the audio. It's just whatever the Zoom captured.

    That is a long stint to be on the road. Hats off to you! I figured out too that it was better to find a decent way to make a living and keep music for fun. Makes the times you get to play less stressful and more enjoyable!!

    This is the modelling being used. I used a Strat neck model. The only real tweak I did was use the natural body setting instead of the Fender body setting. The Fender body tends to be a little bit bright and I find using the natural body setting lets me more easily blend the Strat tones with the other tones on the guitar. Hope you can get some use out of the patch!

    I simply switched out the VDI cable for a new one. I haven't had this issue since.

    Here's a clip of my playing "live in my studio" if that counts :) This is an original instrumental tune. I'm using acoustic model into HD500X being used for EQ, Compression, and Reverb (no amp models). That's going to an Alto TS110a and recorded via Zoom H4n. My 2/3 dream rig is so much fun!!

    I have a question about the audio over USB functionality of the HD500X. I use a audio interface when I'm recording and use plug ins, and I use the HD500X for live work. The other day I was experimenting with using the HD500X as an audio interface and incorporating Ableton Live into my live rig. Since then whenever I plug the USB into my laptop it mutes the analog outs of the HD500X and audio is only passed through USB. I don't remember changing anything specifically to make this happen, and I'm not sure how to undo it. I don't mind being able to choose whether audio gets passed via USB or analog outs when connected, I just can't figure out how to change it :) I haven't messed with it much since this happened, and I haven't tried re installing the driver yet. Any suggestions?

    I can understand this adding more complexity than it's worth. Mainly what I had in mind was switching back an forth from neck to bridge positions. I go back and forth between those sometimes in the middle of a run if I want to give a certain part more bite. Then switch back quickly to end the melody. I grew up watching SRV and picked up on his trick of using the pick up selector during solos to get the tone he was after. I don't have problems hitting the selector by accident, but landing exactly on position 2 or 4 in a split second I'm still no so great at :) The more I thought through how this would work the more complicated it became. Probably should have thought through it all the way before bothering to post it to ideascale. Luckily it doesn't look like Line 6 jumps on every suggestion on the site anyway :P

    I was just playing around with workbench and HD edit and I thought of something I think would be a cool idea. Add HD500(X)/JTV functionality of assigning controls to certain positions of the JTV's pickup selector. For example you could assign a distortion box to the bridge position of the JTV patch. When you switch from the neck pickup to the bridge pickup it automatically would turn on the distortion box. There are countless more examples you could use with this functionality, but I think this explains it.     Well I got my problem sorted out. The fix was a bit of a duh moment, and I'm almost embarrassed that it took me as long as it did to figure out how to correct it. What I had to do is change the global string volume settings from the edit menu. I searched the forums and heard people talking about how this acts as a type of pre gain. Lowering it by 5-6db did the trick. I didn't even know that setting was there. I don't use workbench all that much, probably because I can't connect through my HD500 and have get out a separate interface, and just never noticed that setting in the edit menu. I had been adjusting the the string volume on the patch, but that didn't do anything to help the problem. As to why the signal was so hot and clipping I couldn't say. My JTV-59 never had that issue. So all is well again thankfully!

    I haven't been back to guitar center to pick up my guitar yet, but I went ahead and opened a ticket with Line 6 to get the communication started. I sent them a sound clip and heard back from them today. Basically that this is something they've heard before and is happening because I'm "playing too hard". Even though my JTV59 doesn't do this. Difference between a tremolo bridge and fixed bridge maybe? They said I could send it in for diagnostics, but if they're just going to tell me nothing is wrong with it I'd rather skip the time without my guitar.

    Thanks for the advice. It's in the regular tuning when connected via VDI, but for some reason it's not prevalent when connected with 1/4". I had gone into Workbench and dropped the volume of the 3rd and 4th strings down to 20% to see if that would fix the problem but it was still there. Just quieter. I opened a support ticket with Line 6 yesterday and hope to hear something soon. I opened up a support ticket a month ago about not being able to register this guitar to my account. I never heard anything back. I'm hoping they will respond to the ticket I opened yesterday.

    I'll open up a support ticket and see what Line 6 has to say. I'm sure they wouldn't be happy knowing that this company is representing them. When I had my Vetta floorboard worked on all those years ago, and when my friend took his JTV there, they didn't really seem to be very familiar with Line 6 products anyway. Not sure how they became a certified service center.

    Thanks for the advice. I've tried reflashing the firmware, as well as rolling back to version 1.9. I still had the issue. When I connect via VDI I get the same issue in standard tuning. When connected via 1/4" cable I don't get the issue in standard tuning. I thought I was good to go but discovered last week that it happens in alt tuning mode even when connected via 1/4". My JTV59 doesn't do this. I've really been enjoying playing this guitar so I'm bummed to be without it for a while :(

    I agree!! I have used this service center years ago when I had a problem with my Vetta floorboard. From what I remember it took forever then too. Oh and on top of it taking forever for my friend to get his guitar back he said when he did it reeked of cigarette smoke. I'm not excited about the prospect of them being my only option!

    Thanks for the heads up. I'll head back over there and pick it up. There's a service center in my area, but a friend of mine just got his JTV worked on there and it took over a month for them to look at it and determine the pick up selector needed some contact cleaner... I may open a support ticket with Line 6 first and see what they say.

    I'm having an issue with my JTV69 where the signal is clipping when I play it really hard. It's most noticeable on the 3rd and 4th strings. I noticed it when using the VDI cable and it seemed like using the 1/4" it wasn't happening. But I noticed that when the alternate tuning knob is enabled it's happening regardless of how the guitar is connected. I've tried it into multiple sources (HD500, regular amp, Guitar Rig), and I have a JTV59 that doesn't do this. So I've isolated it to a problem with the JTV69. So I dropped it off at the Guitar Center where I bought it, it's about 4 months old so should still be under warranty. I thought to check on Line 6's site today and noticed that Guitar Center isn't listed as a service center in my area. Their tech hasn't looked at it yet so they haven't contacted me one way or the other yet. I just don't want it to sit there for a few weeks to be told that they don't even do service work for JTV's. Anyway, that's a very long way to ask a short question: Does anyone know if Guitar Center can actually work on JTV's or should I have just contacted Line 6 directly?
