    Tube amps Gone?

For me it was a longer process from tube amp to solid state with frfr. Last week I sold my tube poweramp and replaced it with a ss poweramp (Crown Xli 1500) I use it with a 2x 12" frfr passive cab. With the tube poweramp I had always the headroom problem. That means at higher stage volume I got to much distortion from the tube amp. Now I can use my patches at every volume and the sound stays constant. The tube sound now comes from the helix and not from the tube amp. Sound was fantastic on stage ! You have to use a good frfr cab or monitor e.g. friedman, matrix, gemini, ... then you don't need a tube amp anymore. A low cost pa speaker will not do it ! I think you have to decide which way to go.
  2. Hello Mike FYI: I use an evolution 2x12" diagonal cab with beyma 12ga50 speaker. Very compact and light! I tried the cab sim but with my setup it sounds much better without the cabsim. Strange !!! I only use a para eq low pass 9 kHz. Using the cabsim my sound was boxy, without it's fat and clear. The clean sound is stellar and the distorted sounds have punch and clarity. For PA I use a stereo di-box Samson S-Max MD2Pro between power amp and speaker. I compare the direct helix output sound and the sound of the di box, the di box sound is smoother and less harsh. I know, normaly I should use a cab sim into a frfr speaker, but for me it sounds better. The most important thing for me was that I can play electric and acoustic guitar with the same amp.
  3. I use an Engl E840 2x 50W tube poweramp with my self made 2x 12" beyma 12ga50 cab. I know it's not 100% FRFR, but it rocks. The Engl amp has enough clean headroom and is neutral to use even an amp-sim in helix. The beyma speaker is a coaxial pa speaker which goes up to 18kHz , I use it also for acoustic guitar, which gives a very nice tube flavour to it. Important is to use a tube amp with enough clean headroom. If you want to go mono, then the fryette powerstation is also a very good option.
  4. I'm using a Telecaster Deluxe with the wireless G30 receiver into Helix guitar input. Should I switch on the pad option in the Helix or should I leave it off. What's the maximum level of the g30 receiver ? Can it overdrive the guitar input ? Thanks for help
  5. I'm using the Line6 G30 wireless receiver into the guitar input. Should I set the pad on or should leave it off. I have no information about the maximum output level of the g30 receiver. Any experiences ?
  6. I use the Fryette powerstation together with Helix since 6 months. First I used the guitarcab solution, which was very easy to manage. Fullamp models without cab sim into powerstation into guitarcab. The powerstation is very neutral. Therefore I used the fullamp models. But since 2 month I switched to FRFR, The main reason was my acoustic guitar. I wanted only one monitoring system both for acoustic and electric guitar. (Meanwhile I use it also for bluesharp) I use the Fryette Power Station with a Matrix Q12 Cab (FRFR) and in parallel a 1x12" Palmer guitar cab (Maverick speaker). I use the FullAmp Models together with Ownhammer / Rosen IR's. XLR goes to FOH. This is a FRFR/Guitarcab solution which works fantastic !!! great amp in the room sound ! First I tried the Q12 alone and there was something missing, but together with the Palmer cab, I get the sound I love. I use this combi live. The powerstation give you the power and the feel of a tube amp, which it is. Our second guitar player with a two rock amp, was very impressed with the sound. I created some Twin Reverb and AC30 patches with the according IR's and the amp sound is very authentic. You can feel the amps. You hear the chime of the twin and the ac30. But I must say that the IR's have a big influence on the sound. I use the 212-VX30 pack and the Rosen Twin IR. There are many options, which can sound very good.
  7. Ownhammer IR's vs. selfmade Amplitube IR's Is it worth to do the complete sampling process to get IR's out of Amplitube, if you can get "professional" IR's for a few bucks ?
  8. Hi Yes I solved the problem with switching the button quickly several times (>100x) with my fingers. I think here it was a mechanical problem. Now it's working without a problem so far. You should try it before you send it for repair.

    LIVE RIG PIC's

My Helix on a Gator board. Mooer Blues Crab + Rockett Dude in fxloop. For acoustic tc bodyrez in fx loop Fulltone Plimsoul also in fxloop. Here use the expression pedal to blend between Plimsoul and clean. Best of both worlds.
  10. I use it in the similar way. I use only one amp and split it to two outputs. one output with cabsim to foh, the other without to the fryette powerstation amp with external 212 cab. I'm using an Engl cab and therefore I use also an Engl IR cab response. I made an A/B comparison using sennheiser 906 microphone with the engl cab and the IR-response and for me the IR-cab output is very natural sounding.
  11. Thank you for your responses. Now I will try with pressing several times to "clean" the contact of the footswitch. During this methode i also recognized also when i pressed once the switch recognized a double press. If this does not solve the problem then i will send it to Line6 service.
  12. Hello I have one footswitch (lower row, second after the preset footswitch), which some times does not react to the foot pressing. After waiting some time or rebooting it's working again. Any experience ? Could this be a bug or could it be a hardware failure ? Thank you
  13. I use the Helix with my DT25 amp. L6-Link: First I used the digital L6-Link input of the DT25 and also sent the MIDI commands (separate midi-cable) to switch off the DT's pre amps. I set the master volume of the Helix and DT25 to 50%. I used a clean guitar sound but at higher volumes (helix volume > 50%) I recognized a distortion at the DT25 output. I checked the helix headphone signal. Here it was clean. Ok I thought it is the amps powerstage distortion at hight volumes. Analog: After this I tried the analog FX-Loop-Return of the DT25 with the line output of the helix. I played the same clean guitar signal and I increased the master volume of the helix up to 100%. The master of the DT had no function here. Here I got more headroom before the amp starts to distort and also the distortion sound was different as with L6-Link. For both I measured the cab level with a spl meter. My question: I think the helix has a huge signal headroom because of the 32bit cpu calculations inside. When I use the digital L6 interface then the DA converter of the DT25 must manage the digital level. Can it be, that the DT25 gets into digital clipping at higher Helix signal. (same problem as HD500) Can any DT user confirm this ?

  15. I use the 1.06.5 FW. I will test, if all presets are affected.
  16. I use both the internal and an external expression pedal. When I change the preset, then the actual position of my internal ex-pedal is used as start value in the preset. This is behaviour is set in the global setting. (footswitch) But when I use the external expression pedal, that pedal start value is always set to the minimum value independent of the actual position of the pedal. Therefore I have to move the pedal. I want to use the external pedal for adjusting my global volume, but here I have always to touch the pedal to get my desired volume. Can anybody confirm this ? Thank you
  17. I have the same problem. Workaround: go to preset with a digital output and copy the output and paste it to the target preset. I think it' s a bug.
  18. There is a headroom parameter in the flanger and chorus mod fx in helix. What does it mean ? Thank you
  19. Parameter toogle with expression toe switch should be possible With normal footswitches it is possible to program a parameter toogle. e.g. toggle the gain block between 0dB and 6dB with one footswitch. But it is not possible now with the internal expression toe switch. http://line6.ideascale.com/a/dtd/Parameter-toogle-with-expression-toe-switch-should-be-possible/807471-23508
  20. changing expression pedal control settings should be audible directly without moving pedal When I set the expression pedal settings for a control , I have to move the pedal to hear the programmed setting. At the HD500X I hear the modification directly during setting the values with the knob. e.g. I use the expression pedal for changing a delay block mix parameter. This would ease the workflow. http://line6.ideascale.com/a/dtd/changing-expression-pedal-control-settings-should-be-audible/806846-23508?submitted=1
  21. I tried the delays and the dual pitch, but I could not see a setting where I can set a different volume for the right and left channel. My workaround now is a pan and gain block together.
  22. For me the toe switch is also one of the footswitches. Normally it should work like any other switch. Confusion why there is a different behavior.
  23. Helix gain block with separate left and right gain controls It would be nice to have separate gain controls (left and right) for the stereo gain block. http://line6.ideascale.com/a/dtd/Helix-gain-block-with-separate-left-and-right-gain-controls/806609-23508?submitted=1
  24. Hello I can control the split block (AB-Mode) with the expression pedal and the "normal" footswitches. That's ok !!! But I cannot change it with the Toe switch of the internal expression pedal. Is there a reason for this behavior ? Is there a solution for it ? Thanks
