Try renaming the setlist using the HD500x device or the editor. I believe the setlist name is encoded in the setlist data, and backing up the setlist uses that data as the filename. But if you change the filename the original name is still in the seltist file data and that's what is used on import.

Separating 1/4" stage FRFR and XLR FOH outputs in Global Settings
silverhead replied to amsdenj's topic in Helix
Yes. Typically the Output block level adjustments would be made in advance of any live playing/gigging as part of the overall preset level balancing process. Since this adjustment is made on a preset basis you want to avoid having to adjust both the Output block and then compensating with the master volume knob while playing live. Best practice is to set other volume parameters (e.g. Channel Volume) so that you can leave the Output block level at 0db as much as possible, compensating for overly quiet/loud presets by adjusting the Output block level as required. This will provide a good and consistent signal level to the FOH, where the sound guy can adjust input trim and channel level as desired during sound check. With the overall volume stable you can use the master volume knob set to 1/4" to control your monitor level - ideally once during sound check. If you need to make adjustments to your stage monitor during your performance you can use the master volume knob without affecting FOH. -
In some acoustic presets I place an acoustic IR as the first block in the chain, and set the Variax Tone knob to minimize its effect. In this setup the IR provides the mic'd acoustic signal from the soundhole of the guitar - simulating a pure acoustic sound using no onboard electronics on the guitar. Different IRs will give you different mics and positions relative to the soundhole and neck. With the IR first in the chain the rest of the preset is configured to do what one would normally do (whatever that is! 😉) with a mic'd acoustic input signal. As others have stated I use the LA Studio preamp, no guitar amp, then EQ, chorus, delay and reverb to taste. Edit: And yes, avoid vigorous strumming or picking. A light touch is best.

No - Helix supports Variax JTV and Standard models. Behaviour with earlier Variax models is unsupported but it partially works with my Variax 300. I have no experience with the Variax Acoustic.

Note too that while computer speakers will sound OK you will get a much better sound, and be able to play at louder volumes, if you invest in a pair of studio monitors. I recommend minimum 6" speaker.
-
Yes, unbalanced outputs is best. And no - once the ProX is connected via USB it becomes your computer's soundcard. You need to connect your speakers to the ProX outputs.
-
Not the dry output - that way you wouldn't hear the processing that your ProX is doing with your guitar signal. You would just hear the dry unprocessed guitar signal, just like connecting your speakers directly to the guitar's output using the same adapter.
-
Either the headphones or 1/4" outputs (see the edited post above). There may be other options depending on the available inputs on your speakers. If, for instance, your speakers have 1/4" or RCA line inputs I would use those with appropriate adapters/cables to the ProX 1/4" line outputs. Basically avoid the less robust 1/8" connectors if you can. But if that's all your speakers offer it will work fine using the ProX headphones output.
-
One way is to use a stereo 1/8" female to 1/4" male adapter for the ProX headphones output. You could also use a dual 1/4" mono male to stereo 1/8" female Y-adapter and use the 1/4" ProX outputs.

Your settings seem correct so I don't know offhand what's wrong. Here are a few things I would try to start identifying the issue. If one of these steps resolves the issue there is no need to continue with the further steps. - make sure your presets are saved as you describe them. - make sure the Modelling is engaged on the Variax; push the knob down so the modelling light is on. This should only need to be done once immediately after startup. - turn Helix off, disconnect the VDI cable at both ends, turn Helix on, reconnect the cable. - test the cable by using a standard Ethernet cable as a temporary test. Long term, make sure you are using an actual VDI cable (shielded at both ends) rather than the cable that came with your Variax. - reinstall the Variax firmware - reinstall the Helix firmware If all those steps fail to resolve the problem open a support ticket.

There's a global setting called Snapshot Edits (see manual page 51). This setting controls the behaviour of the snapshots as you make changes and then switch to different snapshots within the preset.

Separating 1/4" stage FRFR and XLR FOH outputs in Global Settings
silverhead replied to amsdenj's topic in Helix
I believe that the XLR output setting in this case would be controlled by the level of the associated Output Block, with the default value of 0db (full/unity volume) applied unless you change it (per preset). As I understand things this setting (Output Block Level) would control the level sent to FOH via XLR and the Volume knob would adjust the 1/4" output level relative to the Output Block level for your FRFR stage monitor. .... but I'm not 100% sure of this....... -
These two of my statements are what needed correction. Apparently there IS a limit, regardless of DSP, of two cabs per path. That's what I wasn't aware of. Thanks again for the clarification. Glad my observation about the mechanics of adding blocks, remaining DSP, and greyed out blocks was helpful.
-
I stand corrected. Thanks for the info guys. It wasn't my intention to promulgate false info. @willjrock - my apologies for any confusion I caused.
-
You're right - the options are limited by DSP and available block spaces. I'm not sure how this situation suggests otherwise. The manual is right - that's why the options are greyed out. There may be some confusion about the meaning of options being greyed out. It does NOT mean that that you are absolutely out of DSP. It means there is insufficient remaining DSP for some DSP-intensive options like dual cabs, hence they are greyed out. The more DSP you use, the less DSP-consuming blocks you can add. But at any time the amount of remaining DSP IS sufficient for other options, and they remain available (not greyed out). It is virtually impossible to completely use 100% of available DSP. But the closer you get, the fewer remaining options you have until finally the remaining DSP is insufficient to add anything else - even the least DSP-consuming FX block - and then everything is greyed out. So as you proceed to add blocks to presets, the most DSP-intensive blocks such as dual cabs are greyed out first. The last to be greyed out are the least DSP-intensive blocks. The reason you are not able to load two dual cab blocks in your example IS that there is insufficient DSP.
-
But you're talking about two dual cabinets; I guess they are very DSP intensive. Maybe you can use 4 IRs in a single path, maybe not - try it. Anyway, it is what it is. Not sure what, if anything, you're asking for here.
-
What makes you say that more than enough DSP still exists in this situation? My interpretation is that there is insufficient DSP remaining in Path 1, and that's why the selections are greyed out. I suspect you could add other less DSP intensive FX blocks in the Stomp/Mod/Del categories. Remember that there's a whole other DSP processor available in Path 2.
-
Yeah - not sure what's going on there. But if you're not having any operational issues I wouldn't worry about it.

The Updater shows all firmware releases so that you can rollback to earlier versions if you want.
-
You need to use the Helix editor/app - the version that is compatible with the firmware installed on your Helix device. For instance if you are running the latest firmware v2.21 you need to use the Helix editor v2.21. Using the editor's Export function you can backup individual presets, setlists, or the entire bundle (least useful imho). You can find th editor/app by selecting Helix in the middle (software) field of the download page.

Every firmware release is comprehensive; it includes all previous updates. You only need to install the most recent.

If you don't want to record you don't need a DAW. Just connect your Firehawk to your PC via usb. Your Firehawk will, probably automatically, become your computer's soundcard. All PC-generated sound will be sent through the Firehawk and hence to its connected speakers. If it doesn't happen automatically you will simply need to manually change your PC's sound settings to use the Firehawk. You will also need to download the Line 6 driver for Firehawk in order to be able to use the usb connection on your computer.
