AlexKenivel
Is what the editor is telling me as I'm trying to change set lists. Now it looks like the set-list I'm trying to go to has been deleted, well at least the names of each preset are blank and now all of the signal chains in every preset have the same exact blocks. What happened?
silverhead
Sounds like something that might happen if your firmware and editor versions are mismatched?
AlexKenivel
They're both 2.1. I've done nothing different over the past two weeks since I've had my unit and all of a sudden this happens. Now even when not using the editor I can't switch to that other set list without every single preset on my Helix going blank. Turning the device back off and then on again restores my first setlist but my second one is empty. If I go to the empty set list and then back to my original set list, all the names are blank and presets are all volume/red squeezeminotaur/chorus/us double nrm/
AlexKenivel
I'm flashing the firmware right now and hopefully I'll be able to at least use the USER 2 slot without glitch in out. I already have my main set list backed up but my second "Amps" set-list that was there is gone forever. No biggie though, it was just presets using every different model in each one with the same IR. silverhead
Perhaps a corrupt preset? Did this begin after importing an old setlist (saved in pre-v2.1 firmware) for the first time?

No. I started with 2.1. My Helix is two weeks old

My set-list that was there is gone forever. No biggie though, it was just presets using every different model in each one with the same IR. I already have my main set list backed up I have found that a suggestion made some time ago by HonestOpinion is a good idea. After importing any pre-v2.1 setlist and before doing any editing I shut down and restart Helix. This forces a rebuild of the new presets at startup, after which I find they behave better. Edit: just saw your latest post that you made while I was composing this one. So this suggestion isn't relevant to you since you have no previous presets, but keep it in mind for future updates. AlexKenivel
So now I go to import my setlist with all my main presets, and all of the signal chains are that of the US double normal Factory preset :Z Power cycling didn't help. Excuse me while I leave the room and start destroying things
silverhead
I would open a support ticket at this point.
rvroberts
Do you have any strange or wrong names in your patches? This thing is a computer. You can't name a patch something like a/d for example. Don't load the set list load patch by patch (hopefully you saved your patches?). Anything that would be an illegal name for a computer will cause this type of problem. I think you can't write an illegal name on the helix itself, you don't get those characters, but the editor being on your computer lets you type anything. The program deletes any invalid characters upon pressing enter, and no nothing like that was going on. After leaving the thing alone, medicating and calming down, I've already begin to rebuild presets. I didn't have a whole lot of them, mainly floated around one or two and the rest were all just messing around with different amps. Thanks for the help silver, I don't think a support ticket is going to get my presets back

AlexKenivel
Dude. Sorry for your troubles. Meh, I'm over it. Thank you tho. Rebuilding my main presets was pretty easy. I've refined things this time around and I'm much happier about what I've got. Moral of the story: Save often, folks.

I've refined things this time around and I'm much happier about what I've got. Moral of the story: Save often, folks. Save and export preset as well. I take the time every so often to backup set-lists and the presets as well as I build them. Via the editor I have screen shots of the placement of the presets in the set-lists as well as the placement of the IRs. I also note the IR names (a document of any type helps such as MS Word) as I put them in for the case where they get truncated and any export of the IRs or the screen shot shows the same truncated name due to too many characters with some long names to include microphone names in the descriptive name. Those that have seen this know what I mean. Dennis

Although I agree that the use of certain characters can screw up computer systems, particularly as you noted the forward slash (virgule, solidus), which to a UNIX computer represents the root directory. Since the latest update to v2.10 on Nov 22, I think that the "forward slash" naming issue should not be a problem any longer - or maybe it is?. This is mentioned in the release notes (my emphasis, red italics): Improvements/Changes - Added a Headroom parameter to Delay > Vintage Digital - Snapshots now recall the currently active expression controller (EXP 1 or EXP 2) for the built-in treadle - Split > Y can now be bypassed; when bypassed, the block sends both left and right signals to both paths equally (like the old Split Y block) - Looper Mode switch LEDs now display a dim/lit state to better reflect their current states - Non-selected Pedal Edit Mode parameter switch LEDs now display a dim state - Added forward slash [/] to list of characters for naming presets, setlists, snapshots, and Stomp mode custom labels - Bypass Assign > Knob 1 (Footswitch) has been relabeled “Switch†to better reflect all values - Tap Tempo no longer affects a preset’s dirty state (“E†icon) - Minor updates to the Factory Preset bundle - If a user fails to read and follow the update instructions, Helix will cause their car radio to play only polka death metal every Thursday from 1-3pm PST
mrculp
I started getting this Badly Formatted Response from device in the editor after several reboots of both computer and the helix, I have now "zero" descriptions in any of my patches. uggggg
smittysensei
This happened to me, but when I was trying to hot key paste a patch between set lists. I called Line 6 and there wasn't anything they could do, so I had to reset and rebuild. Like you said earlier, save often.
brue58ski
Check this thread out. What he describes is what I did to get that message. http://line6.com/support/topic/25327-badly-formatted-message-from-helix/?do=findComment&comment=197006 I wound up doing a complete reset but I think I just had to load a good setlist in the one that was blank. AlexKenivel
This hasn't happened to me since I posted this originally. I export backups of everything pretty often now
