jlawrence2158
Curious what people do for 4 cable method for attaching effect boards in terms of cable length, shorter is better to preserve tone. I was thinking I get a long speaker cable and keep my head and cabinet separate. The effect board would connect to head with shorter cables. I could get longer cables, 4, to keep my head and speakers together, I guess too. What works better in people's performance experience? phil_m
It shouldn't make a difference, really. All the connections from the Helix are buffered, so they can drive a signal a long way without any noticeable degradation.
patdixon
I have a 25ft (5) cable snake that my wife made- works great. If there's any loss I'm not aware of it.

cruisinon2
Unless you're trying to push a signal through a length of cable that could stretch from JFK to Heathrow, it's extraordinarily unlikely that you'd notice a difference.
spikey
Hi Z cables can run 25' or more without issues most of the time. However, playing in a "fluorescent lamp" city could induce noise on anything.
MusicLaw
Always use decent quality cables and you should have no problems. If your cables have degraded and have become microphonic, scrap 'em. Tip: connect the cable to your guitar and amp. Flap the cable against the floor. If a percussive clap sound is heard as the cable is flapped against the floor, toss that cable.
