archtopeddy
I justed added this topic to Ideascale, Add more preset tone banks to AMPLIFI We need more than four presets on the amp to make it more usable during gigs and jams -- I know some of you have mentioned this as well. Please go to Ideascale and vote for this. Thanks! AE

charlyg
I don't think it's a joke. Features take processor power. Let the community decide on which features get implemented.....
Rowbi
4 presets is a joke for a modeling amp. I'm 100% behind anyone voting for the features they want - that's the best thing to do to get what you want. Interestingly there are quite a lot of modelling amps that have 4-6 presets. the spider 15 and 30 are like that, as well as a lot of the smaller amps from other manufacturers like blackstar, etc. Also for non modelling amps (so traditional tube amps) there are hardly any that have more than 4 channels. I totally respect your opinion, but I'm curious for the mass market who buys these sort of products, how many presets do they really use when: A-when jamming at home (when the amplifi allows the iOS app to load and store lots of presets) and B-when rehearsing and gigging without the iOS app. anyone - let me hear your thoughts... I wanna know Cheers Andy
archtopeddy
HI Andy. Thanks for your thoughts, and I appreciate your civil manner in discussing these points. You're right in pointing out that I can live with four pre-sets. For me, though, I'm basically thinking about these pre-sets for live performances and while four pre-sets are do-able, they're just short of what would be desirable given AMPLIFI's amazing choices of amp tones. (You mention amps with 6 pre-sets, and even that would have be better since that is 50 percent more than we are getting how with four pre-sets) For live performances, robust pre-set options are an advantage since, as you noted, amps for live performances need to functions without IOS, (--and I'd add--) wi-fi, or bluetooth. They need to be self-contained for reliable gig-use. The bands I play in range from Gypsy Jazz to Reggae to Surf to Rock and Blues. I would like to use the AMPLIFI at every gig. Where in the past I would take a different amp to each of these gigs ranging from an acoustic guitar amp (AER) to various Fender and Roland amps, I would like to cover all of these grounds with the AMPLIFI. I'm certain that the AMPLIFI can cover this; however with only four pre-sets it means I must change out the tones for each of these gigs. For this reason it would be nice to have another bank or two of pre-set choices; or at least a way to save various four pre-set packs which could easily be loaded as a group into the current single bank. For me, at a gig, four presets gives me a clean (rhythm) tone, a clean (lead) tone, an overdriven tone, and one left over for a "special" tone -- maybe something that has some special delay, modulation, or amp setting. I would prefer to have an additional clean (rhythm) tone and another overdriven or special tone. So six would have been great for me. I don't expect Line 6 to add two more hardwired presets (i.e., an E and F buttons/lights), but I think they could program the software to let the four lights roll over to four more tones so we have eight pre-sets. (I realize I can use -- and I most probably will use -- stomp boxes for overdrive and other special effects, but it would be nice to be able to take advantage of these sounds straight from the amp. It's easy to forget to bring stomp boxes to a gig and it would be nice to know you're set without them.) So there you go -- I can live with the four pre-sets, but I think Line 6 can give us a more robust pre-sets option. Thanks for asking the question and I look forward to what others may have to say. archtopeddy
I just checked on the IdeaScale link to this suggestion and -- yahoo! -- it has been elevated to "In Review" status! Thanks everyone who voted for this. Now... to keep our fingers crossed to see if it's implemented. AE

AE Some good stuff there! I knew there would be a use case I hadn't thought of (multiple bands). I will keep this all in mind next time I speak to someone at line 6. Not that it will replace what's on idea scale etc, but it would be in support of it. Cheers Andy
petebarr75
Please please please add more banks! I love to play loads of different types of songs at home with very different tones back to back so 1 bank of 4 simply doesn't work. If I had known there was only 4 I probably wouldn't have bought the amp, but I'm glad now that I did cause it does sound great! There are a few issues with the app from a usability point of view which I'll post up later in IdeaScale. I'm a seasoned web/app designer so I might even design up solutions to the problems as a wee side project.
archtopeddy
There are a few issues with the app from a usability point of view which I'll post up later in IdeaScale... Hi Peter. While You're up on IdeaScale, please be sure to vote for the "Add more preset tone banks to AMPLIFI" at the top of this page. Every vote counts. (Of course, if you have already done so -- thanks!) And also, if anyone else thinks more tone banks is a good idea -- let your voice be heard by going to IdeaScale and voting. Again, go to the top of this thread and link in. Line 6 is already looking at this idea so let 'em know if you want it. AE
Shakey64
Voted for this idea which will massively expand the possibilities of this product :-)
equ2me2
Does anyone remember the old days using a Roland GP-8. I had it set up with 8 patches for each of the three guitars I used. Just tap the bank up or down and you had another 8 patches available. Does anyone know why they stopped building multi-effects with more than 4 presets? vlxjim
Two things to add. One would be that if you hold down the tone button. The LED would flash letting you know that your in the next set of four. It could be a single, double or triple flashing sequence. That would indicate which bank your in. Or two add extra banks that you would need the short board for. This would be a feature that would add to Line 6 sales. This would be a reason for them to add this.
jhsg
Hi everyone, Does anyone know if there has been any progress with this? I just bought a amplifi75 and am really surprised it doesn't have banks!
Triryche
100 banks coming when fw 1.1 is released. http://line6.com/news/general/1533
McRiff
Interesting timeline... This suggestion was "in review" status on IdeaScale in February. 4 months later...still in review! It's been known for some time now that Line6 were going to upgrade the Amplifi with another 24 banks of 4 presets (100 presets total) - ? requiring the Shortboard to access. I figured they'd release this around the same time as the FX100 came out, seeing that it has 100 presets built in. However, still no sign of that Firmware 1.1 upgrade even though we've been teased with all the features it is supposedly going to provide for ages now. Anyone have any idea how much longer this is gonna take?
jhsg
Yeah, that is disappointing. Why would they dangle the carrot for so long. What other features are rumoured?
McRiff
Hmmm...there have been several rumours as to the features that will be added/improved in Firmware 1.1, but the only official announcement I can find ( http://line6.com/news/general/1533 ) only specifically mentions the upgrade to 100 presets. It's speculated that these 100 presets will only be accessible via the FBV Shortboard, so better integration of the foot controllers would presumably also be a feature. Overall, I'm very disappointed with Line6's progress in addressing some glaring deficiencies in the Amplifi. The promised a Firmware 1.1 upgrade is long overdue, the Remote app also needs some tweaking and, in my opinion, the Bluetooth connectivity issue still has not been fixed. It would be disappointing if they allow to use 100 presets only with shortboard, there are a lot of users that have express mkII, I hope that they'll find a way to utilize express mkII. For example, making A button preset up, B button preset down, C bank up, D bank down etc.

Obviously it's all just speculation at the moment, but considering that Line6 advertise that Amplifi is compatible with BOTH mkII FBV pedals, it would be appropriate that they ensured both pedals would be capable of utilizing the upgraded number of presets. Your creative solution would make a lot of sense. We'll just have to wait (...and wait) and see.
concussion
The majority of tube amp players have a pedal board with numerous boxes. I do not believe it is proper to compare them to channels. In this day and age, it is odd to have computer memory limit to only 4 presets.

Triryche
Depending on what screen you're on, on the left side you should see the AMPLIFi, tap on it to see all the banks. Note, when the remote app first syncs with the AMPLIFi it will take a few moments for all the banks to populate.
archtopeddy
It could be your amp is older and doesn't have the proper firmware upgrade. Make sure you have the correct firmware (1.1). Check this thread (particularly toward the end) for more info: http://line6.com/support/topic/7791-when-are-we-getting-the-amplifi-v11-firmware/page-2?hl=firmware%201.
