  1. I'm glad you're experiencing success. For the remaining 5% by your assessment, I'm afraid you'll find that's a physically impossible ask. It's like trying to DI vocals; that's just not how it works. Consider this: it's possible for a plugin or synth to create a piano tone that, when played through speakers, is indistinguishable from a recording of a real piano played through those same speakers. But a physical acoustic piano sitting in a room doesn't have any speakers at all. The sound is produced through the piano strings and soundboard, which fundamentally behaves differently from speakers. No plugin or synth can overcome the physics of arbitrary playback speakers such that they become indistinguishable from a physical piano soundboard in the room. Even a theoretical 100% truly-perfect amp modeler can't act as just the amp and cab, without a mic or room...and still somehow be able to produce that amp+cab's sound physically in your room, directly to your ears without a mic. There's still a modeled mic, cab, and room - plus whatever playback speakers you're using, and your own physical room. The problem is not one of adding to modeling, but of taking away. So you could model just the preamp and power amp, with no cab/mic emulation, and run that to a physical guitar cab. That would create the amp in the room sound...but it's because you'd be supplying a physical amp+cab...which is not modeling. Kind of like playing a MIDI file through a physically-present, digitally-controlled, robotic acoustic grand piano; it doesn't count as synthesis or sampling, because a real piano soundboard makes the sound. Regardless, my opinion is analogous to Jim Lill's: it doesn't matter. If I can play in a studio on headphones, listening to the sound of a mic picking up a physical amp in a soundproof booth, then I can play through a modeler, which is near enough identical as makes no practical difference.

  2. I've made similar comments here and on other guitar forums/facebook groups. Line 6 commitment to customer support & upgrades was a huge reason in 6/2020 why I chose Pod Go. The GX100 didn't come out until later, and the ME90 was only quite recent. The ME90 is a good unit (one of my best friends has one - it's fine for him as he only uses 3-4 patches) but its useless for my needs as a gigging guitarist doing a lot of covers where I typically have 8-10 patches. And that is because it has no patch-naming which is essential for me. I set patches up in song name order (doesn't matter if some tones are duplicated) so I don't have to remember which patch is which and get lost. Just having patch numbers only went out with the ark - even my Vox Tonelab SE & LE from 2004/2007 respectively give patch-naming. I think it's an absolute cheek though that Boss make you buy the PSU separately!

  3. Yes, its in the manual (p37) - go to global settings>ins/outs>Mainout (3rd knob along) and change it to pre cab/IR BUT people mis-understand this. Per p7 of the manual its only for when you are going to BOTH FRFR and a guitar amp ie sending different signal chains to each at the same time ie you are using Main Out to go FRFR/FOH and Amp Out to go through a guitar amp (typically through the FX loop return). But if you have FX after your Cab/IR they'll be cut-off to your amp too, so if you want those going to both, you'll need to move the Cab/IR to after the FX. Ideally you want two independent signal paths but of course Pod Go doesn't have dual routing so this is a 'half-way' house option but it's not ideal. 20. AMP OUT This unbalanced output is meant to send directly to the front of your guitar amp. By default, it reflects the same output as the MAIN outputs (except in mono), but it can be globally switched to be tapped off directly before the Cab/ IR block. This way, you can send a cab-emulated signal to your mixer (or FRFR speaker) while simultaneously sending a non-cab-emulated signal to your guitar amp. If you play through an amp only, still go through Main Out but just take the cab model off if you are going through the FX return or if you are gong through the front of the amp ie going through its pre-amp stage, you might want to turn off the amp model too & just use Pod Go for FX (that's exactly what I did at last Saturday's gig).

  4. Thanks so much for your input, datacommando. If I recall correctly, I have it set to Global, but I'll check it out tomorrow at my rehearsal place.

  5. I put a fan in front of my powercabs. Works great.

  6. Your welcome. I started to get into this hence all of the info. My own curiosity got the best of me. I am going to try to get Randy's sound again when I have time although I've come to the conclusion that the Altec speakers are fairly critical. I do not have an IR for that speaker.

  7. I have little interest in moving air for my own enjoyment. I like to hear great tone mixed nicely with the others in the band - and let the FOH move the air. Modeling and full range monitoring accomplishes exactly what I enjoy most. Nothing against the traditional cab approach... it's all good. Just not for me.

  8. I put my Helix into a Harley Benton GPA-100 Poweramp and then into a Marshall 1960 4x12 Cab. The patches are of course with only preamps and no cabs or IRs. Sounds pretty good and »moves the air«.

  9. Hi, Since the Owner’s Manuals were written for version 3.0 of the Helix firmware, we are now actually in that “future” mentioned in the MIDI CC lists printed in them. If you read through the Release Notes for firmware version 3.10, there is a section that mentions CC71 MODE switching. New and Improved MIDI Implementation Helix Floor, Helix Rack/Control, Helix LT, HX Effects, HX Stomp, HX Stomp XL Switches in Snapshot Footswitch Mode can now have custom labels and colors. MIDI Snapshot changes on CC69 that are received during preset loads will now be buffered and executed once the preset load is finished. This means that you can send a MIDI Snapshot change immediately after a PC message to effectively load a preset with a different Snapshot than it was saved with. Bank/Preset/Snapshot Up and Down messages how properly work via incoming FS1/FS7 emulation MIDI messages FS1/2/3 emulation MIDI messages can now be momentary for HX Stomp (values 64-127=footswitch press; values 0-63=footswitch release) Also, footswitch emulation MIDI messages now work while in preset or snapshot footswitch mode New MIDI message (Helix Floor/Rack/LT/HX Stomp XL): CC71 engages the MODE switch New MIDI message: CC 72, value 64-127 increments preset, value 0-63 decrements preset New MIDI message (Helix LT, HX Stomp, HX Stomp XL): CC 73 toggles between Play and Edit views Release Notes for Firmware v.3.15 mentioned further changes to MIDI CCs. Global MIDI Control of Knobs 1-6, <PAGE/PAGE>, and Preset Save Helix Floor, Helix Rack, Helix LT, HX Effects, HX Stomp, HX Stomp XL Instead of manually having to assign parameters to incoming MIDI CC messages, Knobs 1-6 for any block on the Home screen (Knobs 1-3 on HX Effects, HX Stomp, or HX Stomp XL) respond to new global MIDI CCs. This turns any programmable MIDI keyboard or tabletop controller into a simple way to edit blocks without having to reach down (for those of you who can't be bothered to use Pedal Edit Mode). In addition, sending Helix/HX a CC74 message will save any changes to the preset. IMPORTANT! We ran out of reserved Global CCs and unfortunately had to steal five user-assignable CCs for this feature. Any parameters you've assigned to CC77-CC81 will have to be remapped. Sorry 'bout that. Hurtling towards a new tomorrow! ;-) Hope this helps/makes sense.

  10. Well it finally happened. I bought my Pod Go 2.5 yrs ago and did my first live gig with it last week. American Strat - Joyo TS clone - Pod Go - Direct box split to FOH and to Headrush FRFR 108 pointed right at me. Amazing experience all around. I got several compliments on my tone. Used stacking of several OD to go from edge of breakup to full blown lead sounds. Cut thru loud and clear. Used only 2 patches - one based on Fender Bassman with occasional use of Klon OD the other on a JCM 800 with a Teemah for leads. Both with Glitz 'verb and occasional Simple Delay Made sure to use hi cuts around 5k in cab blocks and I set my sounds using FRFR at around 2/3 of stage volume, at home. I am never using an amp again. Edit: Forgot to mention this was also my first gig after having added a treble bleed circuit to the Strat. Great control of my volume and tone, on board, without tone suck when backing off on guitar volume. I highly recommend this. tg

  11. Pod Go 2.0 software update is due 7th November. We done yet know what it will contain, but it will do something bigger than more amps, more effects as those are minor patches like 1.20, 1.30, and 1.40. I doubt this will fix the DSP issue, it I run a compressor with a high quality buffer before my pod, which fixes the impedance issue and frees up a block. With that in mind, I’m content with my Pod Go for now, so I welcome the new patch without any deal breakers on the table.
