All guitar setups will need post EQ to get a final desired tone. Mid focus EQ is your friend to taming the fizziness. Put HP freq 0%, HP Q 100%, now set LP Freq and LP Q to desired amounts to cut out the fuzziness and tighten/warmthen your tone.

I have to agree, I'm surprised how much I liked the BOSS, how much EQing did you use? I've seen multiple POD vs BOSS videos where I despise the BOSS but this legit sounds pretty decent. Wouldn't buy one still though, not now at least. It seems to do the worst in high gain though.

Try different cables and different usb ports, different firmwares. Try all of those. I thought I almost bricked my POD and after restarting the computer and "fixing" the USB port it finally downloaded the firmware just fine. Also, do a safe mode start up by holding RIGHT button, and check your FLASH and see if it gives you a P for Pass.

You'll always want to use distortion before the POD if you're using POD for amp modeling. There's plenty of ways to route it, but for you, I'd just go Guitar ->Pedals ->POD input ->out For me, I have a Variax guitar, and I can't throw pedals between the POD and guitar, but I can use an FX loop to throw pedals before everything, so if you ever need to do that, don't be afraid, it works.

Parallel tuning limited to 0 or +12?!
clay-man replied to twdal's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Trust me, you know how much I'd love to output 6 individual tracks for each string? You have any clue what you could do if you had that possibility? You could have effects for each string. You could have 6 guitar to midi plugins running in for a flawless MIDI guitar. You could use pitch shifters for each string. It would be amazing. You could virtually do all those effects just by downloading plugins and programming them to work like that with the 6 string channels. If my Variax could do that that would be amazing. You could program your POD's expression pedal to do that lap steel bend effect on your strings. The problem I have with the BOSS stuff is that it doesn't sound as good. Those features are amazing, but what's the point if the guitar sounds a bit off? -
Parallel tuning limited to 0 or +12?!
clay-man replied to twdal's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
It's not possible with the current units of JTVs and PODs. They would have to rewrite so many things, something that might not be possible without writing all the protocols from scratch, and that's not going to happen unless they decide to do so on a next generation of POD units or something as such. They'd have to rewrite the entire VDI and JTV protocol as well. You're asking for too much, you're going to have to push them to do that on the next generation of POD and Variax units. -
I've noticed that (the mic input) and it's annoying so I made all guitar only presets force change input 2 to something other than Mic. I'm using my POD as a new audio interface so I'm going to be using it as a mic input as well. The POD's noise floor is significantly lower than my Fast Track Pro's so it's only obvious that I'd use it with my mic as well.

I seriously don't get why they don't have as mute feature for the second input.

Sorry I just watched your video now. I think your input is way too high and the noise gate module doesn't have a friendly volume ceiling. I assumed you meant the noise gate was sucking the tone. You have to turn down your volume input, it's way too hot. Try using the Guitar Pad. Is this what Latency means???
clay-man replied to jd5996's topic in POD Farm / POD Studio / TonePort
I did real latency tests with Asio4All and they reported back accurate to what it was showing. The latency on ASIO4All isn't bad if your interface drivers and hardware allow the bandwidth to select a proper small buffer size. I use ASIO4All to route sounds to different devices because I need this feature for using my DAW in live application of music online. As for what latency is, it is the delays that happen between when the audio passes through your computer, processes and shoots back out your speakers/output. This delay is because of the A/D D/A converters as well as the buffer your CPU takes to process the audio on time. If the buffer size is too short, the CPU can't process in time and you will have audio drop outs or noise in the sound from incorrect buffer timing. You want to select the lowest buffer you can get WITHOUT running into dropouts or crackling in the audio when you have a lot of plugins running in your DAW. -
Just adjust the threshold.

I do have a solder kit and a 2 piece USB type b replacement ports being mailed to me because the USB port on my keyboard broke, hence why I said I really had type b usb ports, they're really not very durable. Seems a bit scary to try to fix the POD though. I can try if it starts acting up again, but for now, I put some stuff on the USB cable so it won't wiggle around in the socket and it's doing fine so far.
-
It's not, if I move the usb around in the POD it will disconnect the connection. This isn't good when trying to use the POD as an interface. Disconnecting the POD when using it with my DAW locks up my whole computer. I don't need the POD randomly disconnecting when I try to stomp on the buttons or use the wah. I've read that replacing the USB port is more expensive than what people would assume, but if it costs less than 300 then I'm willing to send it in someday. As of now, I'm going to try to make my usb cable more secure in the POD. I really hate type b ports, they're so flimsy.

How much of PODFarm is basically a software POD X3?
clay-man replied to clay-man's topic in POD Farm / POD Studio / TonePort
Basically I have an X3 then, I can just use my HD500 as a midi controller and do the same stuff. -
GR-55 and the GP-10 I think
-
It can do both. Most of the newer GK-pickup floor units have both a modeling feature and a midi/synth feature. It's not a contradiction. What is wrong is to say that either of those features are the same as one another. Just because the unit can do both doesn't mean those 2 things are the same things under the same roof. No one would take modeling guitars seriously if they were midi guitars.

If I do have a faulty USB do you think I can send this in for repair?
-
Amplitube 3 is the only modeling software/hardware to try to emulate the HM-2 and they did a pretty swell job, but part of me wants the HM-2 on a POD. Funny, I have a literal HM-2, maybe I'm just greedy. I could always just send it through the FX loop.
-
Apparently a restart helped the firmware get through. Works good now. Kind of scared to mess with the firmware again. I think the USB port on the POD I have is kind of sketchy too.
-
Well this is a new record. It's bricked. I can't believe it. I had this for only 2 weeks and I can't use it anymore. That's insane. Please help. I can't deal with this. HD Edit was giving me a lot of flack about presets being reset so I thought I could fix it by reflashing the POD. Well it made it even worse. I can't use it at all now. What should I do? It just says UPDATE FLASH on the screen. I tried over and over to reinstall flash and it does nothing. Edit: I tried multiple times, different USB cables, different ports, and even another computer. Tried to save firmware files and update. Still the same error. Sometimes the POD says Updating Firmware, but after 2 seconds it errors out and restarts. Computer can pick up that it's a POD, and even my DAW can still detect it. Monkey reports Firmware: 2.32

Thank you! Kinda wish they modeled an HM-2 than a Metalzone.
