  1. If I understand your position, it's not limited to a power source issue, but a current draw issue regardless of power source. There is just no way around dual audio output without some level of risk. Thanks for chiming in.
  2. That sounds pretty cool snhirsh. Thanks for the post and thanks to Steve KC and Elantric for their VGuitar forums. Wouldn't it be nice if psarkissian gave us his safety blessing?
  3. Using the VDI and the 1/4 inch outputs has been discouraged by psarkissian as it could overload the JTV circuitry. We can use the VDI connection with Workbench and the 1/4 inch out because there is no power coming over the VDI/USB cable. Could we remove the power pins in the the VDI connector and use the battery for power allowing us to retain all the other VDI functions? Does anyone know if the pins that supply power to the JTV over VDI do anything else?
  4. I agree, but its almost like people look at physical property differently than digital property. People who would never think of walking into a Walmart and stealing a physical DVD of Back to the Future may very well have an illegal digital copy of it on their home computer. That's why I said "It seems like "advances in technology" alters what is morally acceptable." I never considered Kemper profiling as stealing, but I think EytschPi42 makes some good points that have real life repercussions.
  5. I thought my post was quite relevant to the request of the OP to discuss the ethics of profiling technology (which was the agenda of the EytschPi42 videos, not modeling). Profiling technology makes it quite easy to "appropriate" amp tones by buying, profiling, then returning an amp. It's not really a stretch for many to equate that with stealing. How ISIL and human sacrifice got thrown into the mix seems diversionary and used to aggrandize your otherwise irrelevant post. Isn't that what trolls do?
  6. Five or six decades ago, if someone wanted to steal a record, they had to physically walk into a shop and take it. That was a lot riskier that just clicking a link on a computer screen. It seems like "advances in technology" alters what is morally acceptable. I'm not here to judge it, just stating an observation.

    Tone Test

Nice tone. I enjoy that tone the most when you are playing in the higher registers of the guitar (the lead part near the end). It sounds nice and thick. Don't get wrong, because I think it sounds good, but if you are looking for a minor tweaking suggestion, for the rhythm and lower register lead parts, I personally might try and see how it would sound if I backed off some of the lower frequencies. Either reduce the bass on the pre-amp, or maybe bring up the Low Cut or lower the thump on the cab if you are using a cab sim. There are EQs you can use. The GEQ as well if you are not using L6Link.

  9. Well this thread got me back to working on the GK-3 Hex setup and while I could hear the strings with the hex on the body, that was too far to balance each string and get a strong signal. I have raised it up to about 1.5 mm with the caveat of only being able to raise the tremolo bar no quite a full half step.
  10. A great site for info on this equipment, not to mention a lot of great folks with a lot of experience, is stevekc's http://www.vguitarforums.com/. You will find sections for the FTP, for Line6 and much more. Personally, I will customize a mag ring to fit and still be able to adjust mag height. With the hex pickup, I have found it works without spacers (attached directly to the guitar body), but I'm not done testing. That is much farther that the 1 mm distance in the instructions. At 1 mm, I had to turn the sensitivity way down. Placing the hex pickup on the other side of the bridge pickup might be a problem as the strings vibrate a greater distance than next to the bridge, but I never tried it. Roland/Boss seems to have headed into a different direction than the GR-55 when they introduced the SY-300 and GP-10. Time will tell if they have something up their sleeve.
  11. I think the low profile bridge mount will raise the GK-3 hex pickup too high IF you want to be able to pull up on the tremolo bar. The strings hit the hex pickup with even a thin spacer under it. I'm not sure if the FTP cable is long enough or not, but placing the GK-3 directly behind the Floyd is a very tight squeeze indeed, which is why I placed it where it is in the picture in post #2 above. I'm guessing the FTP would be a tight fit as well. I was able to get the GR-55/GK-3 for $680 with a 15% discount (no tax, free shipping through MF I think). That's the lowest price I could find. In addition, the bridge pickup needs to move towards the nut just a little. Unless you are willing to drill new holes in your 89F, the low profile bridge will not be properly aligned.
  12. I have a GK-3 on my 89F that I am still not finished with. I had to remove the pickup ring for it to fit. I'm not sure how much different the FTP pickup is, but it looks pretty close. Please excuse how dirty my guitar is in the attached pic. She needs cleaning.
  13. Link to instructions for calibrating the expression pedal: http://line6.com/support/page/kb/_/pod/pod-hd500-hd500x/pod-hd500xhd500-pedal-calibration-r161
  14. Yeah, Just unscrew and remove the bar and if the receiver has any play in it you will need to take it apart. Well, I could not reach the tightening screw for the base piece with the Floyd in the guitar.

    Patch Levels

Always making things more complicated than they have to be. Next you're going to tell us that you actually use your fingers to form chords instead of one of these:  Sorry, couldn't resist. Edit: Actually, this type of comment does not do anyone any good. My apologies. A software based metering component that could be placed anywhere in the signal chain could make things much easier to craft tones, but requested updates for the HD series are probably never going to be implemented in HD devices.

    FRFR ?

Have you seen the price list? Serious cash.

  18. It will never sound as good as an FRFR amp, but you can use DTEdit to leave the Amp blank if you wish. You should still be able to use any of the reverbs. Unfortunately, the amps in the update for the POD has not been made available for the DTs, like the acoustic, but one of the Blackfaces or Solo 100 Clean or maybe even the Divide 9/15. The DT probably has 2.0 update, but if not you can find it as the "Download DT Firmware Installation Guide" on the following link: http://line6.com/dtv2update/
  19. Keep Input 1 to guitar and Input 2 to mic. Pan one full Left and the other full Right. You can then use the faders in the mixer to adjust volumes independently. Or insert a volume pedal block in one of the signal chains. Or use the expression pedal to control the volume of the amp. I'm sure there are other options if you get creative. The expression pedal can be used to control just about any parameter in the blocks. You can also use your tone and volume knobs to control parameters just like the expression pedal.
  20. You may need to calibrate the expression pedal. Here's how to do it: http://line6.com/support/page/kb/_/pod/pod-hd500-hd500x/pod-hd500xhd500-pedal-calibration-r161
  21. 1) Congrats on being the first post in this new forum. 2) I would be astonished if it did not allow MIDI control of patch changes. 3) You would think the manual would be posted in the manuals section since the product is available to purchase already. What's up with that?
  22. I found some play in my vibrato bar. I initially thought the vibrato bar was loose in the receiver, but when I unscrewed the bar from the receiver I noticed that the receiver was loose in its mount. Maybe there is a special tool to tighten this, but I had to remove the Floyd Rose to get to the tightening screw. In the process, I had to remove the counter pressure springs. I was surprised to find the springs were stuffed with some sort of black foam. I bought it used. I presume the stuffing is there to prevent vibration noise. Does anyone else do this? Does anyone think this could be used to prevent piezo artifacts?
