  1. He didn't say he only had $200, he said, "Right now I got $200 to spend." I agree with what nico said in post #3 above. You could get a used Alto TS112a for less than you have to spend. They sound great compared to other speakers in that price range.
  2. Hello everyone, I was reading and, quite frankly, got buried in amplifier terminology. So, I decided to do some internet browsing for help. My initial question was about negative feedback mechanisms. I did find information about that, but I ended up finding even more. There is a chap that goes by the name "Uncle Doug" on youtube that does a great job of explaining topics that had me scratching my head. This link is part 1 of 2 where he talks about triode, tetrode and pentode tubes, their design, a bit of history, and the advantages and limitations of each: Negative feedback loops: Direct link to all his videos: https://www.youtube.com/user/Stratosaurus1/videos P.S. - Rusty has his own agenda! Hope this is worth your time, Christophe
  3. If you connect the two DT25s with L6 Link: When you change from channel A on either amp, the other amp will change to the same channel, i.e., both amp will always be on the same channel. So if you attach a foot switch to one of the amps, both amp will change channels. You can use MIDI to program each topology of each amp individually to be whichever amp you want if you have updated them to Version 2.0 firmware. You will be limited to eight amp types on each amp. The DT Version 2.0 firmware does not include the Model Packs available for the POD. So if you know what combinations you want, you can pair them up. Additionally, if you change the Topology I-IV, Class A / AB or pentode / triode setting on one amp, it does not effect the other amp. As a side note: The beauty of the POD HD500(X) if that you can set up each DT (up to 4) to be whatever you want, including the Model Packs if you buy them, at the press of a foot switch, in addition to many other other effects and connections.
  4. I bought it for its flexibility. It is really convenient when learning a new song that is in a different tuning to be able to just twist a knob into drop D, half step down or open G tuning. It has great integration with the 500X as well. The mags on my 89F and the Lester or 89F models are very close. The mags sound pretty good IMHO. Blending the mags and acoustic model can sound great using the 500X. Wish there was a small pedal sized box I could use to provide separate mag and model signals to other equipment. I got a good deal on a used 89F with a couple extras, so I am happy with it.
  5. I saw Victor at the Guitar Center in Matthews, NC demoing the Helix. Approachable, knowledgeable and an all around nice guy.
  6. I think he is referring to volume knob on the Alto. You should only turn the volume up to 50% (12 o'clock) when plugging in a line level signal to the Alto.
  7. I have only dabbled in controlling my GR-55 with my POD and my knowledge of MIDI is weak. The PC changes from the POD are fixed. They can not be changed. It would be nice if you could configure this when changing presets, but you can't. If you want to configure your down line effects boxes with the preset that matches, more power to you, but you will also have to deal with this using different setlists as well. PITA. You can read more here: http://line6.com/support/topic/2179-hd500x-has-the-midi-implementation-been-improved/?p=13708 You can do this: The way I did it was with CC messages assigned to a foot switch that I would activate after changing to a new POD preset. Not an ideal solution at all, but I could select almost any GR-55 preset I wanted this way with the default GR-55 assignments, not the mapping. I say almost because if the GR-55 preset was many presets away from the current GR-55 preset (I have not determined exactly how far), it would not switch to the desired preset in the GR-55. I'm not really sure why that is. It's like the GR-55 banks of 3 presets are part of a larger "bank" that you need to already be in to use just CC messages.
  8. That flashing red light should turn green when you plug the 1/4 inch guitar jack into the JTV. You will need to have a charged battery in the JTV and turn up the volume knob on the JTV to "turn on" the guitar. If you have a HD500(X), you can use that as your interface and you will not need the battery.
  9. I guess he would be "running back" to the studio to lay down some Slayer tracks.
  10. If the glove doesn't fit, your playing is full of ...... uh lollipoop!
  11. That's one cutie pie! Congrats grandpa.
  12. Thanks for the feedback clay-man, but the piezo is not what needs shaving. There is a tiny block (black in the picture) that gets pushed forward to trap the string when the allen screw pushes it forward. It might be called a "saddle vice" or "string lock inset". That's what would have to be shaved to allow more room for the string. A .048 gauge fits, so maybe .006 - .008 off the block would work. Not sure how I'm going to do that through. Obviously not the JTV Floyd, but it was easier to just use this picture: Found a better picture. #2 in this diagram.
  13. I unscrewed the Allen screw all the way back and a 56 gauge string does not fit. Anyone else have this problem? Wanted to try NYXL 11-56 strings. Do I have to shave off .005 off the little block? Maybe I should ask if anyone has been able to fit a .056 in the bridge of the 89F.
  14. Yes, you can switch from an acoustic tone to a high gain tone within the same patch. Most will agree that the acoustics sound much better through FRFR speakers. You can push the high gain into FRFR as well, but you may prefer a guitar amp. You can send the acoustic to FRFR and the high gain into an amp.
  15. Metal is not the type of music I listen to, but I thought your clip sounded pretty good. Cool looking guitar too. POD HD Pro X - $700 Line 6 FBV Shortboard MkII - $200 logidy Epsi - $200 That's about one third of the cost of an Axe FX II and your getting the tone you want. Good deal.
  16. Does your receiving device "vocal processor" have MIDI mapping capabilities?
  17. I don't make a living as a musician, but I like nice toys. They inspire me! :) Unfortunately, I am limited in what I can spend.
  18. I experimented with the Purge yesterday and found it to be quite fun. As you said above, it responds nicely to volume and attack. I have an old LP with Tim Shaws and when I set the volume down to about 3 on the bridge pu and the Purge Drive dialed in about 50-60%, it is very clean with soft picking and quite a nice response when I play more aggressively. I placed a Dimension with only SW1 turned on after the amp and got a really nice fat chorus like tone.
  19. +1 The DT amps sound better to me using studio/direct.
  20. No experience with the K&K Trinity Mini Solo dual pickup system, but once you join the stereo signal into a mono signal, you won't be able to split the signal with the HD into the original mic and transducer signals. The stereo path you create with the HD will be a blend of the two. You would need a solution like spaceatl stated above and you might have a hard time with the signal to noise ratio without the pre-amp.
  21. Sure. You can assign a single foot switch to turn one amp on and the other amp off at the same time. You can also use an expression pedal to morph between the two amps. Here is a link that shows the morphing on an X3 live, but it will work the same with the HD.
