If I remember right there is a surf patch in the factory presets. That should be a good start.
-
They could at least release a bug fix for the Helix application in the meantime so that we can do backups safely.
-
I've done the backups but what are they worth if they aren't done right. I have made two backups of the whole bundle within a few hours because I was working on refining some sounds. I can import them but all sounds are eighter empty or only half of the effects there. In addition it messes up with the setlists. Some are imported in the wrong setlist (empty or broken) - The empty setlist I had is now full with one and the same patch on all slots. It is not funny. I'm fine because I had only a few sounds that I made on my own and have most of them as single files (10 files) - the others I got from custome tone and factory presets I adjusted to my taste. So not a big lost but I'll certainly never import a whole setlist or bundle again until this bug is fixed - only single patches to be safe
-
It is still happening with the actual version of heli application. I lost all my patches yesterday. The names where there but all empty. Some names where shifted to different setlist. I could safe 4-5 patches, all others have gone to nirvana. I have done a backup of the whole bundle and of the most important setlist but can't import them with the patches working. Everything is empty or patches are there but only have of the effects - it is really crazy. Interesting enough that the factory presets and templates aren't touched at all. Thanks to god I have saved the most important patches as single files (if not all but at least the best). No problems importing single files. Hopefully the next version has adressed this issue. As for now I do not feel safe using this program. Maybe an official statement that this is a known bug Line6?

The cabs in helix are fine for me. But I'm happy to have the option to load IRs for more choices. Beside the ones already named above I foind the Rosen Digital ones to be one of the best sounding (and feeling) with helix.

Using only piezo without modelling?

I already voted for the first one a long time ago. This is from 2013 so I have little hope they will implement that but who knows -
Using only piezo without modelling?

I think the safest way to go would be a self developed open source software that can be installed in the variax. -
Just found this: http://www.voxamps.com/StarstreamType1 Not that convinced by the soundsamples but they have a nylon model ;-)
-
I had that too - they should this include in the Updater just like it was in Monkey. http://line6.com/support/topic/17562-model-specified-in-the-file-is-not-recognized/

Using only piezo without modelling?

Mmmh, seems that it is not so easy do achieve. That's a pitty. It would be a wonderfull addition since the piezos are there anyway. Just like on Parker guitars or John Petrucci signiture. For explanation what I wanted to do: I'm a proud owner of a helix since 2 weeks ;-). I've got some acoustic guitar IR's that I have imported in helix. With the acoustic modelling from variax into the IRs doesn't sound very well. It seems a bit redundant. I have created a patch ( or better downlades and adjusted ) which works pretty well with the Acoustic modelling. But with only the piezos and IRs I would have some more possibilites. -
I guess you have already played around with the tone knob of the overdrive pedals? Depending on the amp used I get great results when I turn the tone knob back a bit or semetimes even quite a bit (to 2 or so). To get rid of the harshness on the amp you should try to play around with the High Cut in the Cab Settings.

That's interessting - I have a Sennheiser HD280 Pro too and used it over the last years with all PODs starting from the XT. Never had a problem. Is the HD500 an 32 Ohm? My Sennheiser HD280 Pro Silver has 64. Headphone connection on Helix is 12 Ohms if I'm right but that shouldn't be a Problem.

Thanks for your reply Digital_Igloo - I just read your entry on another thread one minute ago ;-) http://line6.com/support/topic/17393-dsp-lack-of-horsepower-is-this-normal/?do=findComment&comment=128568 I guess I have to rethink about how to create dual amp patches. So I'll mark my question as anwered. Thanks for all the great input!

Yeah I guess this it what it is. Coming from HD500 I might have to rething some things. I'm pretty good in creating patches there and also created some very good patches with the helix in the first few days. Now it's time to dive deeper.

Only the distortion pedal and the two Amps is possible. The DSP-Full I got when I wanted to copy the distortion behind the amps. Selection of the reverb wasn't possible because of DSP-overload so I wanted to try copying an existing block and then change to a reverb ;-)
-
I have no problem with that and I'm very happy with my helix - just thought that I'm missing something because such a scenario isn't any problem with HD500 (also understand that it is different modelling). But also was wondering because it doesn't only happen with the Cali Rectifier but also with other amps - just try it out. I'm a little confused because in the manual on page 17 there is a picture under the sentence "...or two separate Amp and two separate Cab blocks..." that shows exactly what I wanted to achieve. But this isn't possible with most of the amps.
-
I think the DSP-Power is there, because there is no problem if two separate Paths are used. Maybe they should think about how DSP Power is partitioned when only one single Path is used.
-
Nothing touched there
-
I have created two different patches with just the two amps in Helix for comparision. One with the two amps in Path one like in the picture above and one with the dual path.
-
Yes as tagmusenmagnus1 mentioned I'm using an IR instead. I've just left it for comparision

Hello, I'm trying to recreating my patches from the HD500 on my Helix. It works pretty well as I can open HD Editor and load the Bundle I saved previously without having connected the HD500 itself. Anyway - I have a patch that uses Dual Amp options in the HD500. Since I like to keep things simple I tried to recreating it with one Path in the helix but it doesn't work because I run out of DSP pretty soon. What I wanted to do is to have a distortion pedal that is shared with both amps. Then the two amps and after the amps a flanger and some reverb for both signals, like it is in the HD Editor picture above. I've tried to created the patch using a two amp template from the helix. It works pretty well but it doesn't seem to be the same soundwise. When I just add the two amps in two differnt patches - One uses a single path and the other the two path from the template, they sound completly different (single path sounds better two my ears). I'm I missing something?

Thanks, Installed the new helix software. It's fine now
-
I got this message from time to time when I open a patch in Helix editor. Is this because the user that created the patch wasn't using the newest firmware?
-
I was lucky to find a helix in my favorite local music store a few days ago and couldn't resist ;-) I'm very impressed so far and enjoying it. I was using the HD500 until now and there are a few options that I miss in helix: Where are the parameters for Thumb and Resonance in the cab adjustments? In HD500 we could adjust the Impedance globally and per patch. Why can't the input impedance set per patch in Helix? I found this very usefull in HD500 and always chose different values for clean and distorted sounds.
