L3 / L2 Price Drop: Giggity!!

But yeah; for the price of two L3t, you could get the pair of EV's, a sub, speaker stands, and XLR cables! -
L3 / L2 Price Drop: Giggity!!
ColonelForbin replied to ColonelForbin's topic in StageScape Mixer / StageSource Speakers
Yeah - indeed!! Which is exactly why I've yet to pull the trigger on the L3 pair yet.. Price not withstanding - my #1 reason for going with the L3, is because I intend to use it with the M20d and pair of L2t that I already have.. In that scenario, the benefits of using the L6Link increase the overall "set". Also, when linked with the M20d, you activate an additional graphic EQ in each speaker, controlled from the M20d.. Here is an interesting analysis of the L3t speaker by Don Boomer, but posted in a different forum! http://www.harmonycentral.com/forum/forum/LivePerformanceCategory/acapella-33/367106-/page2 "The L3t top box has a pair of 10" woofers. A pair of 10s has about 40% more cone area than a single 12" and about 10% less than a single 15". But it gives us a lot more to play with from the DSP side, better power handling (2 voice coils instead of 1) and much better transient response. It also makes it easier to deliver a lot more power to the speakers than your typical "1000W 2-way system. Those systems can supply 500W to their woofer but they only deliver 10-20W to the tweeter from the other 500W amp. We deliver 600+W to each woofer (and 10-20 to the tweeter from a 175W amp). Our system is a true 3-way box as the two woofers play different material. That also allows the little beam-steering trick in backline mode as well as boundary coupling compensation in floor monitor mode. As far as input and aux limits ... that decision was made both to allow full implementation of all the user selectable modules to work everywhere (a limit of the DSP) as well as allowing the Line 6 link to the speakers. There's a bunch of very high level processes running under the hood that are not included in the others mentioned above. (Multi-band compression, dynamic EQs, feedback management (and having been involved in the design of other units for other manufacturers I can say this is the best one ever) The board has a digital networking output that can output 6 discreet audio channels (as well as data) down a single AES mic cable. So you can plug L/R mains and 4 auxes on a single cable. A digital hookup is immune to hum and noise pickup (1' and 0's can't see noise) and it also sets up all the gain staging automatically so everything automatically stays in the sweet spot. It also automatically assigns all tops, subs and monitors. Just plug it in ... it doesn't care about the order, so you cannot plug anything in backwards. There's more DSP inside each of our speaker cabs than some of the digital mixers mentioned in this thread ... and when you use the Line 6 link to connect the system you activate a 1/3rd oct graphic built into each speaker cabinet (which you control from the mixer). There's plenty of mixers and speaker systems out in the world that can do the job ... that is IF you truly understand how to set all the controls. This system is for those who know some to little and really just wanna consistently have good shows without having to worry about connecting gear, dialing it in, and avoiding feedback, hum and buzz. It's also very quick to setup and to make changes for those bands who mix from the stage and do double duty as soundman and musician. It's visual ... you see it you do it without having to worry what channel something is plugged into or what buss a particular monitor is plugged into or which aux on a channel get it there. For those users it will simply mean consistently good shows without problems. Don Boomer" -
L3 / L2 Price Drop: Giggity!!
ColonelForbin replied to ColonelForbin's topic in StageScape Mixer / StageSource Speakers
For what it's worth Zzounds now has these same prices - limited time instant rebate - and you can do 8 payments.. I have been wanting complete my stage rig for a while; this makes it quite tempting to add a couple of L3t or L3m.. $650 L2m $700 L3m $750 L2t $800 L3t -
Stagesource speaker issues. Anyone else?
ColonelForbin replied to clive010's topic in StageScape Mixer / StageSource Speakers
for the L3 mains, did you go with the L3m or L3t, or combination of both? Considering a pair of L3 for my band. for our main speakers; wondering if people go with L3m, or stick with the L3t for the extra mixer options.. -
Setup my 2 new L3t speakers
ColonelForbin replied to randychesbro's topic in StageScape Mixer / StageSource Speakers
Any update on the L3t's!? How have they held up over the last few months in your rig? I am looking at possibly adding a pair for my bands live sound rig.. Debating between the L3t and L3m. We're using two L2t's now for floor monitors. Have you been using the L3t mixer portion with your rig? -
Ok, that's very useful info - very similar situation to how I intend to use them with my band. We're using the M20d as well, with a pair of L2t's for the stage monitors... Good thinking on the 'just in case' scenario! I guess it's not always the first thought when buying new gear, but for the extra $200 that would be something that I might miss more later than I would appreciate the nominal savings now.. Especially split across multiple payments.. Hmmm.. Good stuff, thanks for the responses! I was also mulling over the idea that the mixer might be useful in ways I have not yet contemplated..
-
Does having them with the added mixer get much use when you are running them as mains? Are you using an outboard mixer typically, or are you routing the main mix signal through the mixer section so it can be EQ'd vs the rear panel XLR in?
-
I am leaning towards the L3m right now; Zzounds has an instant rebate going - they might be clearing out some inventory, I noticed that they don't show the DT25 combo on their website anymore. Anyway, I have the L2t's, and I rarely if ever use the mixer component - they are always linked to either my HD500, or the M20d.. I get why the extra mixer is cool for the extra $100; but mostly just to justify the already insane price tag for two, I keep coming back to the L3m, whose primary use would be as main speakers with the M20d system; the two L2t's for stage monitors. Or if the gig is smaller, possibly the two L2t's for mains, and the L3m's for a single stage monitor. Just wondering if people prefer not having to protect the mixer section when raising and lowering these onto speaker stands, or when transporting to and from gigs>? And another side note; has anyone use these gas-piston assisted speaker stands>? http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/TS100B-2pk

HD500 + L2 / L3 for BASS! (anyone?)
ColonelForbin replied to ColonelForbin's topic in Dream Rig - Line 6 Product Integration
20lbs lighter each than the L3t too! I hear ya, even at that price, the L3t/L3m are steep. I keep waiting for the price to hit around $500 for an L3t.. I also keep holding off because of the 57lbs each weight.. That's pretty heavy to haul to a gig! I can move the L2t around no problem, and they sound great - but I don't know if they are enough to do what you are looking for. I think the 1x12 format might even do it better than the 2x10.. Not sure. Those EV's do look sharp, they aren't hideous like the Mackie Thump! -
HD500 + L2 / L3 for BASS! (anyone?)
ColonelForbin replied to ColonelForbin's topic in Dream Rig - Line 6 Product Integration
This might be a temporary price cut, but Zzounds has the L3t for $799 right now, I think it's an instant rebate deal or something. The L3m's are going for $699.. (it's still showing at $999 on Sweetwater, Gtr Ctr, etc.) I think Sweetwater dropped the price for a little while last year, but then went back up again. http://www.zzounds.com/item--LINSTAGESOURCL3T http://www.zzounds.com/item--LINSTAGESOURCL3M Save $200 Instantly! An instant rebate has been applied. Price shown reflects price after rebate. Offer valid for a limited time only. -
Stick with the XLR out, and program your patches accordingly. For that matter, since the PA is mono, you could set up a dual signal path in the HD500x, and run "dual mono", IE two different signals from the HD500x intended to be both panned center, instead of in stereo.

I noticed the acoustic amp being low jn volume too- try adding a cab to it! I messed with that briefly last night. JTV to HD500x, linked to L2t speakers. I made a dual amp chain, made both the acoustic amp, then added the JC120 cab to one, left the other as no-cab. I have to start working some direct and FRFR stuff to my rig for the JTV acoustics! I mostly use the DT amps for my rig, but the reso and acoustics never sounded quite right via the DT route. I was loving the banjo, sitar, the acoustics with the L2!. Got some nice tones using that new acoustic amp model, just too some messing with settings

Yes, and yes! What did you do to get the 5150 sounding better? I was checking out the new models with the DT linked up, and that one jumps right out. I think I ended up turning down the treble and presence. I like the Shiva, I might have changed the cab to 4x12. The JC120 is Mr Sparkle meets Mr Clean!: ~"Mr Sparkle is disrespectful of dirt!"~

What's the best footswitch for changing channels on the DT50
ColonelForbin replied to Brazzy's topic in DT50 / DT25
I am having some trouble making this work.. I bought a Hughes and Kettner 2-button footswitch, with a stereo 1/4" plug at the end (TRS?) But it does not work to control channel switching, or reverb, or really anything on the DT25, in 'standalone' mode... I am guessing I bought the wrong kind of footswitch, anyone know if this Marshall footswitch will work? It says dual latching, that could be what I got wrong on the H&K.. http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/PEDL-91003 -
Exactamundo!! Gibson 2015 went all robot tuner; battery powered, plastic - with the third party name on there no less. Gibson. WTF????

DT25 connection to M20d
ColonelForbin replied to TheLonz's topic in StageScape Mixer / StageSource Speakers
That is the same way I connect my rig with my band; we use the M20d to record our rehearsals and do sound for our gigs. I only have the mixer and two L2's for the monitors, so we have to run the main outs to a PA or house sound, but works pretty well. Here's the key: the DT25 XLR out is MIC level. You need to go to the channel in the M20d and increase the gain. Easiest way to do that is tap the little icon that shows channel level ,and it will pop up the various options - took me a while to discover that one - and the red one is trim ( I think brown is panning?) Increase the gain a bit- treat it like a mic signal, which requires some gain to get up in level.- 1 reply

Now that the new HD model packs are out, I am TOTALLY going to try linking the 500x to the DT25 head, and run that baby into my Mesa 1x15 bass cab! Crank up my 5-string bass through the new SVT models... I had been recently scoping out an Ampeg SVT7 bass head to have for a backline; this might be even cooler... Funny how 25 tube watts can drive the heck out of a 600w rated cabinet.. Go figure! The SVT7 is 1000 watts, class D. I wonder how that roughly translates to 'tube watts'...?

For what it's worth, the new firmware and new HD model packs (for the HD500x) are NOW available!.. :) http://store.line6.com/software/hd-model-packs.html

It has now gone live!! Gave me that message previously; now it's all good. Make sure when you input your address info, that you tell it the Country first, then it will change to the applicable field - it starts by giving a Province field, I entered my State code there, and then it got all mucked up, had to start over, went smooth the second time... TWO MORE HOURS TILL WORK IS DONE!!!!! Then drive home.... Eat dinner while driving to conserve time. UPDATE HD500x!!! Purchase Completed Because, YEAH! \ Here are the links if anyone needs 'em! I love my DT25's; currently have three of them... They rock!!! They sound killer with a POD HD500(x), they also sound amazing standalone, Can we buy the model packs yet????? It let me add the to the cart; but I didnt' get to try checking out yet, I didn't see any official announcement or anything, wasn't sure when the actual date was going to be. I personally vastly prefer using my HD500 with the DT amps; no question. Real tubes! Plus it mostly eliminates all DSP errors, since you are using the pre models. You might actually be able to get a sweet deal on a used HD500, just to give it a spin. Though if you like it, you will want more DT amps, first to run stereo, then to run wet/dry/wet, three amp stereo, with a dry DT in the center. Keep your eyes out for deals! I saw a used HD500 on Reverb.com for $250. Though at only $500, the 500x is a nice upgrade, in terms of more DSP, better footswitches, and less likely to glitch out - no way to know for sure how hard an HD500 has been used and how much life the footswitches have left. I still have my HD500, upgraded to the HD500x, but for now keeping the old 500. Not going to get much $$ for it if I sell it, and with two of them, I can do some cool dual rig stuff; run one to the DT25's, run the other direct to the PA / mixer for FRFR stuff.

Following up with this conversation, I have been using the DT25 1x12 combos; very recently found a local deal on a DT25 head and cab, so went for it. Adding the second cab from Sweetwater today, should be here tomorrow! LOVE the head+closed back cab. Haven't had a chance to get it linked up to the HD500; but just plugging into this thing direct; totally rocks. I also picked up a two-button footswitch, for using the DT head-cab rig with analog pedals. (A / B channel switching and reverb on/off) I know you can program it with a MIDi controller; but not going that route just yet. Though, of course, at some point, I will have to do the 3DT link; with the two DT combos on amp stands left and right, and the two cab DT25 head stack in the center. I would use the L6link; run the two combos in stereo 'wet' and run the head-cab stack in the center, 'dry' - sending the amp only, before the post effects.. In the short term, it's actually for the lead guitarist in my band, and I'll keep using the HD500 with the two DT combos; and have him run the pedalboard / analog pedals into the DT25 mini-stack.. Was toying with the idea of getting custom band name plates made up that match the center to center screw holes of the Line6 logo plates; replace those with the band name and or band art... Not in any hurry to do that!! Looks cool with all the Line6 logos; though would be cool to get name plates in the Bogner logo though.

Maybe check out the Stagesource speakers; have you looked at the L3 or L2? If you live anywhere near Irvine, CA, there is a pair of L3 (L3m + L3t) on Reverb.com for $1500.. You could put a single L3 vertical on stage; still be able to run the HD in 'studio/direct' mode for feeding the mixer / FOH / monitors, etc., but still have control on stage for your volume. Run the two XLR's from the HD direct to the mixer in stereo; then use the Line6 link to send the L/R summed signal to the L3, or L2.. Not an inexpensive option; though if you find any used, the price might be better.. I love the HD modeling and all that full range / flat response thing - direct to mixer is appealing, what you hear is what they hear! But the more I dig in with pairing it to a DT amp, it seems, the more DT amps I acquire! Here's why I like the DT: -linked to the HD pro, 500, 500x, etc. it blends the 'traditional' amp on stage, with the modern amp modeling including XLR DI out (from the back of the DT, rather than from the HD..) -I like tube amps; actual tube tone - not just the amazing emulation of a tube amp mic'd - but the actual sound of the amp and a speaker.. -I don't like playing direct if I don't have control over the stage volume; surrender to the monitor mix if you must; but I like being able to tweak the stage sound from the amp; simple, quick, and familiar. -In terms of the DI on the DT; it's awesome. It's transformer tapped so you get actual tube tone in the XLR send, and it's mic level so works 100% fine with all snakes and such, channel inputs won't get overloaded - it's mic level, so the mixer / soundguy needs to gain the signal up accordingly. Evens things out, makes it sound more realistic - direct at line level just sounds different. I don't mind mic'ing the cabs for a better sound if the soundguy is good. If I am mixing from stage... I usually skip the cab mic and just use the DI. I have a pair of the DT25 combos; I run them in various combinations of wet/dry and stereo L6Linked to an HD500x. I just picked up a used DT25 head and cab; and am in the process of getting a second 1x12 cab to make a mini DT25 head+two cab stack. Unfortunately, for you, you might need a bigger set of speakers to get the most from it; or possibly the DT50 for more power. Which means more weight.. The DT50 1x12 combo is crazy heavy, and the DT50 2x12 combo is ridiculous. They make a 4x12 cab; then you are back to where you started!! Keep the thread updated, I am curious to find what solution you come up with. Always have my ears open to new ideas that weigh less! The DT25 combos are heavy-ish; I tweaked my back moving one a few weeks ago. The DT25 head is not too heavy, and the cab is quite manageable - so that's a good way to split the weight up. Doubtful a single 1x12 will do it on stage if your other guitarist is rockin' the Marshall 4x12 though!! Not sure what the DT50 head and 4x12 cab weighs.. But that would be a 'traditional' half stack, with the added interconnect options to the HD amp modeling; with a solid XLR di out from the DT head.. Food for thought!

Variax models vs. mags with amp sims
ColonelForbin replied to egriffith's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
I like to use both at the same time. I added a second DT25 to my rig recently, and started programming the HD500 patches to split the mags and models with the VDI. Amp model 1 gets the variax mags, goes to one DT25, amp model 2 gets the variax models and goes to the other DT25. Sound is stellar! I typically have to balance the mag / model volumes, but since they are going each to their own DT, that adjustment can be a simple knob tweak on the DT's, then save the patch at volume once they sound leveled.
