    Helix FAQ

This might be a silly question.. is there a way to load the latest factory presets without doing a reset? It would be great if the factory presets are treated as setlist so we can import. I don't want to reload all IRs....
  2. As along you can get the sound you need... DSP power is behind the curtain... I bet many of us might run into trouble getting the sound we need with DSP limit.. but someone else probably can get the same sound using different configurations. I used to think 2 cab with dual IR for each amp... (4 IR total) means better result.. it turns out I get very similar result or better with mixing IR and Helix Cab... But just looking at the market.... its hard to find another product within similar price range that can do dual path, dual amp, and dual IR with effects...
  3. Thanks DI... I can finally... 1) put it on the floor and use the switches and expression pedal 2) buy a pedal board... Most importantly... we all know things break eventually.. I am more concern about using the physical controls too much and break them eventually.. like cars control etc... using the computer to tweak at home is a non brainer...
  4. Anyone heard or read about a "new variax" would be introduced. I remember few yrs back, Line 6 introduced JTV about a yr after the PODHD 500....
  5. which size did u get?? I am thinking of getting the 30x16.
  6. Can someone perhaps share tips how to create better sound with dual cab?
  7. that's why I wrote "can sound better"... left and right IR killed a lot of DSP.. regardless.. a lot of Ownhammer is already dual mic. I think it would be great if Line 6 can work on Mic position (in addition to distance) and multiple mics for each cab...
  8. Want to clarify... I meant Helix's dual cab can sound better than Ownhammer cab... when mixed/tweaked right...
  9. I have few Ownhammer cabs.. I concur with most people that IR sounds better right out of the box but dual cab can sound even better sometimes... the problem with dual cab is that u really have to spend time to tweak. The combo of mics/cab/settings can drive someone crazy... If there is a library of sounds with all different dual cab combos.. that will save us a lot of time.. I know different guitar/amp use would be different.. but at least u kind of compare...

    Helix Vs. AX8

I think the Helix vs Ax8 topic attracts a lot of attention... But I think its more appropriate to compare the 2 units maybe a year+ later given Line 6 has plans to adds and change Helix functions. Especially Helix is a brand new product. We all know Line6 started off with the good baseline vs Fractal is implementing the library they already have. But even Ax8 amp sounds a bit better than Helix, I still go with Helix because of USB audio, dual paths, UI and expression pedal... I have used 5 modelers before (non AxeFX), Helix is the only one that allows me to change patches on stage quickly...
  11. I use my Helix with L2t... just by turning the channel vol up within a patch, the "Mud" disappears... and it might sound too sharp sometimes.... But with some adjustments of channel vol, bias, cut low on speaker or IR... all Mud disappears while retaining great tone...

    Helix Vs. AX8

I own the Helix and tried AX8... I also think Ax8 has a bit of an edge on the raw amp sound... but with identical IRs loaded (ownhammer).. its comparable... but I really need recording functions so I couldn't stick with Ax8... I have been reading a lot about Helix fizz.... maybe its just me.. I own a American fender deluxe.. and used marshall combo.. Helix is spot on with fender and Marshall combo seems to have more fizz than Helix... I already have the stage source.....and I am just waiting for the next generation of Variax..... than my dream would become truth....
  13. Peter, I agree with you.. that was my point. We can't use the same external effect on both path... so rendered the digitech drop useless in 2 separate paths situation. Have to comprise and make a single super path
  14. In Helix, use the looper..... and switch IR
  15. I have the Digitech drop.... its much better using digitech than the whammy in Helix.. especially when u strum.. However... send/return can only be used once.. meaning.. if u have 2 parallel path, 1 and 2... only one path get to use the digitech signal.... wish Line 6 can change that in future...
  16. If I am correct, if you leave the L2T horizontally with PA mode, there is no low cut. The only way you have low cut is monitor mode with horizontal position
  17. Does anyone know if there are sound difference between line 6 link and AES/EBU? I just remember mine is just a 110ohm aes/ebu cable
  18. I have the Helix connecting to L2T via line 6 link. It sounded good.. but are there any tips on tuning the 2 to work well.. ie..eq, low and high cut etc. I find the tone sounds a little "thin"....
  19. For those who uses AES cable out, set sample rate to 96k yield smoother, warmer and less harsh tone... just remember everytime you update firmware, the system reset to 44.1k.

    sample rate

Phil, The difference is very noticeable comparing 44 vs 48 vs 96. 96 was a big jump. That's why I am confused.

    sample rate

Phil, that's the setting I was referring to. I use AES/EBU output to L2T. There is a difference between each sample rate settings. I have been told that sample rate affects the DSP as the machine needs to scan more. I seems to get better result with 96khz and I just wonder what people use. Given I only do live not recordings mostly.

    sample rate

What sample rate do people use for live gig only? I find 96Khz produce more clearer sound but hurts DSP. Higher sample rate requires less treble and presence setting.. and less muddy... Any work around?
  23. I am glad people are interested in this topic.... Part of the difficulties in navigating in the digital world is that there are so many things that can mess up / improve the sound... I wish people who has those amps can do a side by side comparison (Helix and real amp) and demo how Helix behave differently than real amps. I don't question Helix can get close to the real thing.. but what needs to be done to the amp is less apparent. I read somewhere that Helix master vol. 8 equals to Master vol. max. on a real amp. If people don't know that and maxing out the Master vol. on Helix, I can imagine people takes longer to get their sound
  24. Has anyone study how Helix amp settings (gain, channel vol and master vol) relates to the actual real amp? e,g: real Vox amp settings XYZ sounds similar to Helix Vox with ABC settings?
  25. I can't wait to put it on the floor and to be able to use the pedal and switches.... I think standing up while making minor adjustments is ok.. but not for continuous tweaking, trying IR, etc.
