  1. Yupp. All true. And i do know, how much more there is even in how one can present the amp power numbers. Amount of accepted harmony distortion etc, etc. There seems to be plenty of ways for telling about amp power. And like Rewolf48 said, it still doesn't tell about how loud the amp is. Nor does it tell do you, or not, hear that less powerful amp anymore. And when we kindly remind people, that when we want something to be 10 times louder, we need to get our power 100 times bigger, brains start to melt ;) Imma head back to original (i bet OP has already bought his amp and has his hands full playing, while we here keep chatting about it) and tell:"Yes! It can do it". I believe, that with some extra money i'd get one as well. Just for the heck of it ;)
  2. Its a good language, if it has words in it and it's even better language with more words ;) But..! (now where was i?) There is one misunderstanding now. I'm not sure if the way Line6 talks about power is right. Or maybe it is, but... Gah! My english is leaving me in trouble here... If i take one 655W and one 175W amps and play them together, it is not the same than playing thru one 830W amp. Especially, when 655 goes TOOT and 175 goes DING. Confusing, huh?
  3. Could it be, that instead of being a glitch, it is a feature? We're supposed to play on the loop, so it looks logical to pre-mix them like that.
  4. Too difficult. If opening my eyes next time i'm reading won't help, i just get loads of vitamin A, a transmission oil exchanger and self shoot me an enema of the century.
  5. By shutting off you mean that it's like pulling the plug and putting it in again? If so, i'm afraid there is some kinda problem in your hardware. The pedal needs suprisingly heavy (at least it does in HD500 without the X) stomping before it clicks the switch. I'm not sure if that is good for the gear in long run. One cold soldering in right spot - somewhere near the power plug maybe - may cause that kind of behaviour. In that case your gear needs servicing. But did you mean it happens if you have nothing - no volume nor wah - addressed to pedal (why step on it then?!?)? Calibration (again in HD500, not 100% sure if its still the same in X) happens after resetting the device. it only measures the moving range of the pedal to find out your 0 and 100% points. So if no sound at all or 100% all the time (or something pointing that it doesn't give full 0 or 10 of course), calibration is needed. I can't see why lack of calibration - even when admitted that everything which includes some kinda programming can turn to amadhouse without any reason at all - would cause behaviour like that.
  6. Hmm... Would someone with more cash (just had to get these Line6's and 2 keyboards, so i will be poor 'til 2134) just go, buy one and hook it up with some kinda Dyno tester for amps, eh? Funny, how i managed to compleytely miss the word "peak" in all this... Will eating a hat or two cure blindness by any chance? Guess i better get one of them hipster-Fedoras to find out.
  7. Err... L6 Link AND 4cm in DT was it?!? And also it would've come up handy to know, what kinda sound you were trying to get.
  8. Nuts, eh? Well that makes two of us. It may be, that we are just blind. Maybe we've missed the small print, where Line6 says that "in our infamous L2m we have 800W in 2 ohms, but we've managed to create a 128ohm speaker system which of course reduces our loudness a bit". ;)
  9. Could it just be, that someone has rolled over your heaphones cable with a chair? I mean have you tested they still work? (i'm so hard trying to avoid mentioning the words "master volume" and "foot pedal" here)
  10. Dunno 'bout others, but if i needed some kinda acoustic amp, i'd try to make one by not using amp model at all and using one of them eq:s ("graphic" maybe) as pre-amp. In live situation, if using DT25 we may run outta air soon though. With acoustic one needs headroom, headroom and then some headroom. But in recording that should do the trick. Dunno, if we actually need many more amps. Of course it is fun to have 100 of them, but when there is like 5(ish) amp types in whole world (i do admitt, that there is gazillions of variations) do we need yet another variation of VOX, Marshall or Fender? But if Line6 wants to have fun modeling tsome more, feel free to bring us the dumblest Dumble there is (and just for the heck of it, Selmer Zodiac with that ear-tearing treble).
  11. Evolution - one of those forbidden words, huh? - happens in everywhere. That includes also amps and loudspeakers. In this one it seems that Line6 has been using not so traditional hardware. And generally in full-range systems it's not about how any 12-inchers you have in your set. How you measure your cabinet means so much also. I personally would be very suprized, if 50W tube amp appeared to be louder than 800W L2m. One thing that could lead to feel ike it may be 50-watter breaking nastily when cranked full up and producing nasty, cutting high tones. And when used in same power range them 800 watts still produce very large, but warm like summer rain (oh, i'm a poet now, am i) sound with no disharmonies whatsoever.
  12. Behringer Truth-series is good value for the price. And that is not the only reasonably priced brand. There are plenty usable ones. (we - as in "we, the people" - should remember that even our cheapest gear almost certainly is way better than tools of those - guess not so familiar - names like Jimi Hendrix, Beatles, Elvis(h) etc, so getting the most expensive gear there is does not necessarily make us sound any better. We also need something to say, before we record it and toot it out on innocent bystanders) What ever you decide to buy, please do not fall in subwoofer trap. Most of those toot their bass over everything and make the listener grind his teeth in fear of the fillings in his teeth falling off. Studio monitor needs to show you ecxactly what you played in. Not to color it in any way.
  13. Could it just be, that the thing needed in there would be better ideas?
  14. Nah. VOX Mini3 is a swiss army knife. I use that in our caravan. With that one i have to settle for less. With DT i don't. So its a toolbox.
  15. Looks like i - once again - have to come up with opposing opinion. However this is just the thing musicians should do. Discuss, question everything and finally finding some kinda solution. And the world would be a sad place, if everyone had the same opinions. Or if everyone played the same kinda music. Comparison including swiss army knife does not stand in close observation. If multi-purpose is always just a cheap, poor excuse of a tool, we need to add some "real" amps like Mesa's MarkV or Roadster to the list of swiss army knives. What is MarkV but a modeling amp really? Few channels producing different type of tones. DT only beats that one with 8 channels - funnily enough - working with MIDI foot controller like very many "real" amps. Again we need to focus on what we get from the end of our tube. One, even if very special and carefully developed, tone is not enough for me. I need way more. For some strange reason it is not allowed to use computing in process of making sound (there goes just about every digital effect in the world). Instead of that, whe should use loads of stompboxes and mountain of amps. That's just yesterdays thinking. Big brands tend to keep telling people, that they're the only ones capable to build a wheel. And the wheel of every other brand is just a cheap copy. Line6 is producing all 4 wheels and a chariot on top of them in price of one fifth of a wheel. That is soo wrong. And again. I don't need exact copies of big brands amps. There is always something they are made for. They try to reach some kinda tone. Do they all? Do they reach it even better than a modeling amp? That pair surely gets lots of different answers. HD/DT pair is not a swiss army knife. It is a toolbox. It has them screwdrivers etc, all tools needed in just about every job possible and they come in 2 reasonable sized cases.
  16. Err... Since thread is about pod/dt25 combo (it says so in the header), i assumed that you talked about them and not just about pod. Pod is not amp. DT is. With pod, DT starts to shine. But. Comparing pod and just one of amps it models in simplicity is like comparing a bicycle and a space shuttle. Of course bicycle beats the shuttle in simpilcity (like Sarah Palin beats just about every life form on earth in being simple, single cell lifeforms included), but nobody can really claim that the perforance is the same with both. But yes yes. You can't peddle the cursed space shuttle. What a worthless piece of machinery ;) Its never simple, if it does one trick more than the next competitioner. Is sound sample "X" better or worse than the original amp it is based on, is only matter of opinion. I don't think that nobody has ever claimed that modeling creates the amp it is based on. People use terms "based on" and "inspired by" a lot when they talk about modeling. Like bicycle is better in peddling, some Park 75 can be better in being Park 75. But in Pod HD/DT25 combination, P-75 with all the rest of gizmos in use IS better tool for just about everything.
  17. Err.. Lost you there pal. Worse than real amps? It IS a real amp. Actually it is very versatile real amp. Of course it can't copy 1/1 some of them 100W hi-gain monsters (personally i don't find them trashcans very useful anyways). Some part of a sound comes definitely from them 150 desibels tearing your pants off when standing in front of one of them 100W tube monsters. But most models are like the original. Actually they're more. Instead of being limited to one decent tone, like most Fenders, Marshalls and (actually... You make the list. I'm too lazy ;) ) are, this one can change its shorts. You need to get very expensive "real" amp, if you want it change classses A to a/b or do the other tricks this one does. Most of them do not have such options at all. With my current knowledge of this DT-thingy, its better than most of traditional amps. And i can sell my boutique gear and get 3 more with the money. Some parts of modeling still need some fine tuning. Losing the microphone from POD setup should also be possible (it may also be found out, that i finally need to go get some eye glasses to change the blurred world with lots of missed text in manuals to clearer one). However that may also be me in need of more skills with this one. And in modeling there always comes the fact, that if originals sound doesn't fit your ear, neither does models. In nutshell: 100W plexi may do better plexi, than DT does, but it stinks in doing them another 29 amps. + all the variations you can do on the models with power amp options.
  18. Just thinking... If expression pedal loses its calibration for some reason, does it go 100% or 0? Would come in handy if we know what is the last thing you did with HD before that startup when you noticed it didn't work. Anyways. I can't know, what you've already tested, so i may be just heating the house by chatting here. I'd start by pulling every plug out. Then Power cable in. After that the guitar. Amp cable of headphones would be helpful also. No sound? Move them switches next to expression pedal few times (to make sure they are not left in between. Not sure if they can but just in case) Step on expression pedal so it switches from 2 -->1 (or the other way around) No sound? Recalibrate expression pedal (just in case) No sound? Connect to a puter and re-install everything to it (if i remember it corrctly, needs pedal calibraton after that) No sound? Yell: "MEDIIIIC!" (carry it to a repairsman)
  19. Failing to understand the philosophy behind modeling seems to be the problem for the most. People tend to use patches like effect pedals and then rant when they can't get it sound right. Instead of learning how to use tools, they just click everything, turn the knobs and when this doesn't work, they blame someone else. Its like hitting myself in thumb with a hammer and then yelling to The Lady of The Manor for it. I've played with DT25 head/cab only and with HD500/Dt25 combination. Both are excellent tools. However, like every amp in the business, people need to use time to learn how the tool works. Can't claim myself being the best guitarist in this world (i've seen one or two better ones ;), but after 35 years of playing i dare to say i can recognize a good tool, when i see one. Of course - if looked carefully - something to rant for can be found in just about everything. But in this we should get a mirror and have a chat with the monkey we see in it. Ask the hairy bum, would he rather listen yelling about "this f**n f**k won't f**k!" or take part in discussion in which we as community try to develope our tools to even better. I believe all of those, who are not in dire need of special medical care, would take the option with more brains and less letter f:s. Guess its the internet. People - ecspecially them brats (why didn't we raise them when we had the chance?) - talk in internet in ways they would get knocked 'til the next week, if tried the same in discussion with real people. If there is something to rant for, we should rant about moderators who made it normality in our discussing forums. Internet... I hate it these days. It was marvellous ibea: But someone messed it up. They let the people join. Anywas. I'm enjoying of my HD/DT pair and i've already put some of my old gear out for sale just to get another DT set. I believe someone oughta write somekinda very clear startup guide. Page or two. Guide, where the idea of modeling is explained plain and simple to those who are plain and s... err... ...in need of it. And please, do not leave it to me and my poor excuse of english. I learned this sad attempt of mimicking a human language from mr A. Schwarzenegger's film Conan, the Barbarian. And from a song called Mustang Sally.
  20. Tonite was my first real deal with HD500. (Yes. I know i'm late with my gear updates) After few weeks of inspecting, learning and tweaking i took it as part of working gear. Gotta say that it is unbelieveable piece of machinery. I didn't have junk in old setup, but now compared to HD500 they surely sounded like junk. Members of the band started listening me instead of doing their jobs. My english leaves me in trouble here. It seems i can't find words to describe tonites success. I lost 10 years of my too many of them while playing. Its the air... Dynamics are in completely new level. The air was full of crystal clear sparkles, echoes, creamy leads, screaming tube overdrives, and me in middle of all that. ... Those, who feel that their gear is useless and don't want their HD's anymore: feel free to send them to me. I'll take every single one. But jonhhyayyy. Please, please, please do not sent those Tonnage Twins. Even if i feel like The Man after tonites set, there seems to be certain limitations even in The Man. It seems that while HD500 can't overload its cpu with unnecessary amounts of modulations and filters, i reach my limits being not capable to be a man for a (supposedly) females bigger than an STW.
  21. I'm not sure, if 6 months is enough to finish the tubes. Althou i've had tubes broken after one days use, it is not very common. Before using money to tubes (even when one should always have a set of spares for every amp he/she/it owns), i'd check few things. There may be several explanations for them strange sounds. One my old JTM popped an hissed when it needed resoldering of a tube socket. Resonance works in mysterious ways and tube amps tend to dismantle themselves occasionally. A tube may be also loose in its socket. Yanking a tube soflty tells you if something like that is happening. Do not roast your fingers with hot tube!! Knocking tube softly with handheld of a screwdriver may also tell you about tubes condition. However if you do not have slightest clue what to do, leave the inestines of your amp to a pro. Even if Wylie E Coyote survives when electrocuted to black and smoking pile of ashes, humans tend to start their travel to the paradise of their chosen religion in same circumstances. If you have your POD connected to a computer via usb cable , you may've created a ground loop. That will give some noises. For this try to disconnect usb and see if noise goes away. However dunno if it is possible with DT. I had ground loop hissing when using POD with my boutique thingy, but it is silent with DT.
  22. When it comes to modeling, we need to remember one thing. Every time we go to someone elses settings, he may've had different guitar/bass/bagpipe than we have. We need to remember that the amp + gear is modeled but the sound settings are variable. Its' really like going to music store to have a test run with that almighty $3000 boutique amp and noticing, that the last tester was a deaf, mad gwrth-player of a polka band from our local looney bin and made that thing sound as he likes. And here are we offering our beatuful, black PRS to that setup. We hear a sound of someone just set 159 pigs in fire and look our guitars in horror while fighting the urge to run for our lives. But - after recovering from the shock - we can fix this just by turning knobs for a while. Thas how it goes. So far there are several different setups telling they are that amp model, but they're always more. They are setups built on an amp model. If and when people have time, i suggest using time to create ones own basic amp settings as a template to use, when creating new sounds.
  23. ...aaaand like mr Arkadin said, the whole thing was done in about 10 minutes without problems. At least no problems with gear... Small addeneum suggestion for updating guide, if i may. Add sentence "Do no - and we really mean DO NOT - leave your amp's volume on rehearsal volume level. Few pops you hear during instalation WILL make you ruin your perfectly clean underwear". Ty for fast and accurate help :) Now? To the laundry cave!
  24. Greetings my fellow gearheads.. If there is something i have completely missed while tampering years and years with music equipment, that would be MIDI. So here's a question propably dumb enough to bend the universe: I happen to have M-audio 1010LT PCI sound card in my puter. That piece of gizmo has MIDI connections in it. But Line6 guide for update tells me i need usb-to-MIDI device. Is there some special reason for that? Will the world end if i try to update DT via that card?
