  1. Unless you've played the two at volume through the same set-up, then its obvious HD is quite a bit more refined and responsive.....
  2. nope, I have used one that someone else, but with modest headphones so there wasn't a huge difference. I could definitely tell the difference listening to self-ripped vinyl vs. remastered CD quality, though. I'm fine with my earbuds and my iPod for my casual listening, and I use my interface and AKG cans at home for anything crucial. I do most of my listening at work or biking, so transportabiliy and disc volume are a deciding factor, I still keep my mp3 collection @ 320 kbps or VBR, though.
  3. I'm with you on pushing standards, and I would appreciate the higher fidelity. Having had several other discussions about this product in the last year with several people it seems some people (mostly mix engineers, go figure) think that this is going to, or should, replace everyone's iPods/Smartphones as everyday music players, and I don't see that ever happening. I think that it may reach enough of an audience to be a high-priced boutique digital option like the digital equivalent of a $5000 turntable.
  4. I think this is a cool idea in theory, but I have a hard time wrapping my head around this ever becoming a popular standard. 90% (probably more like 95%) of listeners are casual at best and wouldn't know the difference between washy highs of a low quality MP3 or the clarity of higher resolution formats, and most of the people are gonna plug whatever device they have their music on into $10 ear buds, overcorrected sound docks, or stream via BT to a standard home stereo. Unless the hardware is very affordable or there is a huge shift in the market from quantity to quality, its gonna be an audiophile thing only. There are already high definition audio players out there
  5. According to one of the L6 staff on TGP, this is "heavily modified POD Farm" modeling that should be well beyond the X3/XT tones.....do you buy it?
  6. and actually, Boss just released (or is about to) a PC editor as well as a Firmware update, along with a desktop GT!
  7. I can't do two different output options, requiring exterior devices for in-ear monitor and micing for the FOH, even with a user-written guide I F**KING HATE the EQs, some of the effects clip so easily it require OTHER effects to adjust volume, I have to compromise on all of my ambient patches cause I can't stack stuff the way I want without running into the DSP limit, along with some randomly wierd looper behavior (playing a sound back before I hit play, playing something that I recorded before I shut the unit down, starting to loop at random; I've only had each of these things happen maybe twice in the last year, so its VERY intermittent). Otherwise I love the amp modeling and the form factor.
  8. That would be nice....As soon as people start wanting to pay original metal bands, maybe I can afford an AxeFX. Until then I'm stuck with reasonably priced options. If Roland/Boss is gonna actually start supporting their products after release I might have to check out a GT-100. Could you image Apple releasing an iPhone with a ten year old OS?
  9. Did you guys see it! Oh I'm so excited....They just put up a new outside-device tethered modeler with ten year old modeling! Things are looking up 1 (SARCASM)
  10. I really hope 20 years from now I'm not going to see bands play through home stereos.....
  11. The day before I bought my HD500....it was a GT-10 before that, and a GT-8 before that, and a GT-6 before that, and one of those little gray Zoom pedals before that...
  12. I'm gonna hold out through the end of the year in hopes that Yamaha will try and straighten this company out a little, but if not, or if they continue down the road of focusing on overpriced PA equipment (although the M20D is pretty awesome for the coin) and overpriced home stereo equipment, I'll probably migrate somewhere else. EDIT: I think this fits here: Boss Actually Did a Firmware Update to a Floor Pedal (and it appears useful; reamping, guitar to MIDI, added Terra Echo, Orange Sim).
  13. Celemony Melodyne Studio can do that pretty well if the .wav is played cleanly. It doesn't work if you're going to from a "wet" (distortion or effects) guitar track. Not too many products out there that can do it efficiently. Even Melodyne has a real hard time with fast passages, as I have been trying to use it to relearn some old songs I don't have tab for.
  14. everybody got their undies in a bundle 'cause their internet feelings got hurt.
  15. Hopefully they're not completely abandoning the modeling....with some better cab sims in there the modeling is on par with much, much more expensive units. I've learned not to hold your breath with it comes to ANYTHING regarding Line 6. They will do what they want, when they want, and they will market it like it cures cancers while chasing terrorists. And if they do make an announcement, expect a few weeks of delays.
  16. Either way, that response was didn't even make sense to the question, nor was it even accurate to the product. Plus, I'm pretty sure that using external pedals is a recommended use for the effects loop.....
  17. There's got to be something better than a bunch of basement electricians "testing" and speculating on things.... If you they woult take some initiative and actually show up here and answer questions, then archive that information, that would be that. But, as explained to me by an official Line 6 representative, these forums are for users to assist each other, and thats it.
  18. Not reliably, or when you have a question regarding something that isn't a malfunction, like wanting to know how the levels are spread out/panned, what the headroom of the various inputs are, things of that nature. I haven't had too many experience with support tickets, but usually when people need help with guitar gear there isn't time to wait 2-3 business days for an answer, which is usually like calling customer support for your internet... "Did you cycle the power?"-Yeah, didn't you see where I mentioned that in my support ticket? "Did you do a hard reset?"-Yeah, did you even read past the title of the support ticket? "Did you try recalibrating the expression pedal?"-What? I'm having issues with the effects loop?! WTF does re calibrating the expression pedal have to do with anything? Somewhere there is the last guitarist on earth that doesn't go to Google (or your favorite search engine) to look for free answers to possibly expensive questions.
  19. Yeah they would, but not by answering questions with "self-acquired" technical data. I would think it work something like these except users could only create a question in an area that only official people could respond to. So it wouldn't be a discussion like here, and I'm sure plenty of topics could be linked back and forth were users interested in discussing a topic or response, but that way the answers aren't mired down by people guessing at values or stating opinions, which they can already do here.
  20. So, in contact with L6, its apparent that these forums are basically left to the Users to determine and answer almost any and all questions posted, even in regards to technical inquiries like things regarding processing, latency, DSP managment, mixer functions, etc..... so head off the the black hole (IdeaScale) and Vote for It! Technical Questions Forum on IdeaScale.
  21. it would be cool if there was a way to ask the guys (or one of them, or someone who knows how to find out) who made the device what the scientific specs are.....
  22. What makes you think path B gets processed before path A? It seems to me that you're not really avoiding latency, just moving it around.
  23. Awesome....I really wish GFS would start making 8 string blade humbuckers.....I miss my power rails.
  24. Nobody is asking for new hardware, which your example would illustrate, if it was what was being talked about.
