  1. Gawd, everyone takes everything so seriously. I'm a smart-lollipop. I will continue to be a smart-lollipop. AMPLIFi was a marketing lie. Line 6 does not give two lollipops about its user base. There is nothing I've said here that I wouldn't say to someone face to face. I get a kick out of the fanbois running to defend everything, then posting "Please, guys, you're hurting the device's feelings" posts. I'm gonna keep sending daily requests to the company in every possible contact form that they need true representation on the user boards to handle technical questions because I like my HD500, but I hate the customer support of the company. It takes like 1 minute out of my day..which I would probably waste picking my lollipop anyways.
  2. Great, everyone at NAMM was amazed by a BlueTooth speaker...doesn't sound promising for the industry, does it?
  3. I know if this level of "customer support" continues, I'm looking elsewhere when my 500 craps out...We shouldn't rely on user's testing to understand the panning/summing situation, level management, etc. If they can't get someone to at least respond to direct technical questions, maybe they should get out of the business of having customers all together.
  4. I would definitely be looking at at least a 30" scale if I ever wanted a 9...or a fanned fret or something. I could never get along with Ibanez necks.
  5. I'm using a Frankencab that is a Grundorf (rat fur gray, whoo) box with four *cough*BUGERA*cough* drivers wired in stereo @ 4 Ohms per side. I run it in Stack Return into the L/R effects return/ine inputs I use Preamp only models with the PowerBlock/Cab for my main heavy distortion tones, but I play metal on an eight string, so I'm avoiding all poweramp distortion to keep things un-muddied. . I use full models on my clean tones (no cab, though) because I can get more volume using the Master volume in the DEP section, and it adds a nice "sproinginess". I have used full models for dirt tones and the DEPs combined with the PowerBlock got some good pretend power amp grit when jamming outside of band stuff. That little amp is more than loud enough for most rooms, and since its SS you can pair it up with different cabs for different situations and not worry about running your power amp hot.
  6. Maybe someday a real person from Line 6 will once again acknowledge that they do have users out there in the world. Right now its more like an Amp Modeling Device Crapping Machine. "uuugghghghhghhg!!! Got a new one for ya! See one the next one is done baking!"
  7. I really think the only thing lacking is the cab modeling; if they could use larger IR's or a more robust algorithm (still have no idea how the cabs are done by L6) somethings would sound a lot closer. I always remind people when they ask about sounds "This thing is modeling the sound of your head (microphone) few inches away from a speaker...if you want your headphones to sound like an amp in the room, crank up the ER in cab block and cut some highs. If I could afford all the stuff thats in the HD in analog, I still woudln't, cause it would literally be a truck full of lollipop just for my guitar gear. Now I have two guitar cases, pedal bag, Power Block and cab, and I'm good to go. Never had anyone come up to me after a show and be like "I could hear that you were using the L6 HD500" so it must not be "off" in a bad way, right?
  8. yeah, cause they're so awesome you get them free with Pro Tools.....
  9. L6 doesn't even know what Linux is....just ask 'em.
  10. Everyone wants to plug in and have it sound like the guitar in a full mix on a record, and when it doesn't they spend countless hours tweaking, forgetting that those tones come from multitracking, EQing, mixing, other instruments, the original recording equipment, etc. and so on...My POD sounds just fine if I pull up a blank patch, load up the Mesa model, and turn the gain and tone knobs a little bit...I can get it better with more tweaking, but there is nothing "wrong" with the sound without fighting the device for an hour. I'd say 1/3 of the people I talk to in the real world are thinking good modeling will make them sound better....and it doesn't work that way.
  11. You must play with a very quiet drummer can someone confirm if the full guitar sound comes out all five drivers or is it like a wet-dry-wet type deal where the base tone comes out the "guitar" speaker (still not sure how you have guitar speaker be a program sub as well, but I'm no designer) and the ambience effects are in the sides?
  12. I would think they probably send a full band tone through an amp's pre-amp, measure it, then do the same through the power amp hooked up to a load box, to see how the internal components affect frequency, how it compresses, etc...then probably take the cab they want with the flattest possible amplifier and do the same thing with the different mics in on/off axis settings. I think the ER is simulated, though, meaning not "modeled" in the same way. Thats what I'm still not sure of, and what turns me off the Kemper...it seems like it profiles a sound rather than an amp, then an adjustments after that are approximations...more like EQ and adjusting a pre-recorded guitar track or something..whats there is there, no changing it, just adding to it or subtracting from it.
  13. it will literally smoke your lightsaber; grind it up, toss it in the bong, and smoke it.
  14. Multi-dimensional Tone Targeting....I'm diggin it. Now we can travel INTO the frequency spectrum for EQ adjustments. Who needs Hertz or %s when you can FEEL it with your hands!
  15. you've been privy to more information than I, sir! I though it was 'cause they still needed an Android app for targeting and the developers were slow to get it done....
  16. no-one will ever know, as L6 is now completely run by non-speaking mole people employed by the Yamaha corporation as a front for their intergalactic laser project. Instead of working on new amp models, they've been working on a guidance system for cross-dimension canons. It's pretty serious stuff, but its not gonna help us get a better tone.
  17. I see, since I have no idea what Scope is, I will not bother.... I really, really have a hard time with a lot of software prices...I get some of the ones like SD and stuff where they pay a lot of money to an engineer and a studio, but stuff like new versions of Cubase/Nuendo, Pro Tools, etc....most of the code is already in place, why keep charging prices like you just developed the whole thing yesterday? $60 for Tracktion 5 seems like as good a deal as Reaper, though! Anyone care to comment on how the VSTi implementation in MixCraft works? I've known some instruments to not work so well on some DAWs, and some are really hard to program/arrange for.
  18. Well, if the little hints a couple of L6 employees have been dropping other places, there is something a little more "Pro" coming down the line in the near future. I'll poop a candy cane if there is an Android app for this before the end of the year. Is its a cool practice toy? Yes Is it a "Reinvention" of the guitar amp? F**k no....if anything, its a reinvention of a BlueTooth speaker dock If it hurts your feelings when people talk smack about a product you like or own or use....nobody gives a lollipop, just like nobody should give a lollipop when someone talks smack about a product....some of you guys act like someone called your sister a hooker or something....
  19. Where does one find information on ParseQ? Bitwig looks interesting, but not at $400....
  20. also remember that to have a good direct tone you need cab and mic modeling, but most people find that that doesn't provide a very good tone through a guitar amp. Thats why its so confusing as to why we don't have dual output options for the XLR and 1/4" i.e. one (XLR) gets cab/mic modeling all the time while one (1/4") goes "amp"....
  21. It is only a practice toy, not a live gigging amp...unless you're a one-man band, then you can DI your backing tracks in the Aux in and play your guitar through, but only in little coffee houses or your friends living room, otherwise you'd need a real PA, since there is no way of accurately mic'ing this thing and it simply doesn't have the power to carry a large room like a regular guitar amp. Think of it this way...Harbinger sells 150-watt full-range speakers for $150, you can buy a Spider practice amp for around $100, and you can get a bluetooth receiver for less than $40...so 300-watt stereo, four amp models, and bluetooth for $440~ or for $40 less you could get 75 watts stereo, four amp models, and tone-matching (sort of, not really)....seems a little bloated for the features.. oh yeah, and don't forget, you basically NEED an iDevice for the Amplifi....its a cool practice tool, and that is all.
  22. Sounds like a good list of things needing fixed before the thing ever left the gate, eh?
  23. I like Reaper because pretty much everything is in there, sometimes you just have to look a little harder for it. I was looking at Mixcraft but had heard some unkind things about it with MIDI/VSTi support. I like the idea of Ableton Live, but I could never get along with it..seems like an awesome live music tool for people who want to do live looping or live dance music, though.
  24. loud is pretty relative...if someone tells me a guitar amp is loud, I'm thinking like raging 5150 through a 4x12...some people hear the word loud and anything above talking volume is loud...
