I'm not trying to be an lollipop, but you're basically using it wrong and you set yourself up for failure. Its surprising that you can get a decent sound with a cab model into a guitar cab in studio direct mode and would venture that you're amp model's EQ is all sorts of screwy to compensate for it. I guess at the end of the day, if it works for you, its working, and if it doesn't it's not. I've only heard awesome DI recording clips of the Lodigy with impulses, as thats its intended use (well, reverb was its intended use, but yay for firmware updates!)
-
So are you using impulses through your marshalls? or you're saying you want a DI solution without your amps and the IRs are not passing the test? If you've been using the POD's cabs in stack/combo return mode through your amps, then I'm sure those IR's do sound no better then the stock cabs....The IRs you load in the Lodigy are pretty much meant for DI situations only, so you're basically running a full speaker sim into a real guitar speaker, which would (and should) probably sound like total lollipop, actually. What you could do if you're using amp patches is put the lodigy on the headphone out or split the 1/4" outs and send your normal signal to your amps and the IR signal to the FOH.

Using a Pod Floor Plus as a "shortboard" for POD HD Pro?
gunpointmetal replied to xavi1989's topic in POD HD
I don't think the Floor POD plus has any controller options, its pretty basic.- 1 reply

MCU/DSP communication issue, I guess. So, basically poor execution of implementation from the get-go and no interest in fixing it after the fact. Unless there really is NO OTHER WAY for the software to handle it, but I find that incredibly hard to digest.
-
BTW, I have heard from reputable sources that the EQs are an impossible fix. Not gonna happen.

I use a Crate Powerblock in stereo into a 4x12 running stereo out of the POD into the PB's line inputs/effects loop. No coloration from the amp as far as I can tell. I'm using an eight string guitar with passive pickups in drop E (four string bass E!) and I have no problem with clarity or cut. Make sure you're tweaking your patches at volume with the band, and disable cab sims if you're going into guitar speakers. Another thing to note, the classic "metal" sound (mids cut slightly, treble & bass boosted) is recipe for pure disaster in a live setting. My main live patch is with the Rectifier model and the bass is probably at 25-30 with the Mids and highs in the 60s-70s and then presence to taste. I also like to tweak my patches with my head at speaker level and not too far away (its loud, but necessary) so I know what a microphone would be picking up in a live setting, as well. Too many people think their rig sound awesome from ten feet away, but in reality its harsh and brittle and thin because they're basing their tweaks on how it sounds off-center and out of the "beam"

Do you mean crunch like old-school classic rock overdrive, or crunch like heavy metal rhythm tones? What are you playing through?

I've used the 500 since it was available in live situations between 1-10 times a month plus two-times-a-week rehearsals and I have not had a single issue other than how annoying the damn EQs are, but the X wouldn't help ya there anyways.

4 cable method, tube amp, & sonic maximizer set-up

I'm not knockin' anyone for using anything, whatever works for you. For me it was like an automatic scoop pedal. -
4 cable method, tube amp, & sonic maximizer set-up
gunpointmetal replied to rickfugue's topic in POD HD
I'd put it ahead of any ambient effects (delays/verbs/chorus)....actually, I'd put it up for sale on Craigslist cause my experience is that it should be called the BBE Lose Your Guitar in The Live Mix. -
I tried using this method for a while and it works _in theory_ but only if you play with the softest touch. the string reacts differently when you pick near the bridge/pickups and if you don't have exactly the same force as when you tuned, you'll probably "push" all of you notes sharp right when you hit them. At least it sure seemed like it to me. I prefer to tune with my "usual" pickup settings and picking force.

My old boss processor had the option to monitor the input with the gate anywhere in the chain, which was actually pretty awesome for high-gain patches...almost like having an NS-2 in the X-pattern.
-
The effects in the HD apply the effect at the point you put them in the chain...moving the gate after the effects loop will only gate sounds coming in and going out of the gate, its not "monitoring" you input signal or anything.

Having paid WAY too much on Monster cables and constantly going through their return policy (now Guitar Center can't even exchange Monster cables, so you have to pay a few bucks to mail back your broken cables every year), the cables I have used the longest in a live setting without issue have been Guitar Center's Livewire brand. Lifetime warranty, and they can be exchanged easily enough if you do have problem, unless you're nowhere near a GC.

so we should have to ask multiple times through the official channels, cause somebody on the other end might be really bad at their job?
-
7ms is a long f-in time in audio processing....thats longer than the delay I use to "double" parts on patches, and thats definitely audible. That has to be with the effects loop engaged, though....doesn't seem quite right.

Its a new box, it must sound better than the old box. I like to use this to my advantage when I was mixing our last EP...Drummer says "The snare is not loud enough through there." Move the fader, hit CRT+Z and play it again..."Yeah, that sounds better!"......
-
Should still be able to get the information....probably have to start a suppor ticket, email support directly, wait a day or two, not get an actual answer....good luck. everybody else who has technical questions just tests everything themselves since the company has no interest in the boards....

Garageband 10 Click Track ahead of the Recording Measure?
gunpointmetal replied to sbgardner's topic in POD HD
are your recordings in time with the click or with the monitor? I would assume you either need to adjust you Device settings for the HD500, or maybe switch to a lower resolution output to speed up your video signal, cause it sounds like your video is lagging on your audio, which is known to happen occasionally with HDMI. Might be worth it to connect a regular monitor and see if you still have the issue.- 2 replies

An obligatory "Oh look, the Boss GT-100!" thread
gunpointmetal replied to ColonelForbin's topic in Line 6 Lounge
And I think there is an official Boss/Roland Editor, as well. I'm gonna test drive one in a few weeks. If I actually get the chance, I'll report back! -
personally, I would use an external gate FIRST in the chain, before you hit the HD500...if you put it after your output, you're gonna gate delay and reverb trails, as well as fighting the volume created by effects on/off etc. throughout your patches/chain. With it out front, it won't mess with your ambient effects, and you only need to worry about adjusting the settings if you change instruments. This method doesn't help any if you have a noisy effect in your digital chain, but at least you're not messing with the decay of your effects....plus you can usually "Set it and forget it" when its out front unless you're gain varies very widely.

Atomic Reactor Owners!!! Super cool trick!!!
gunpointmetal replied to Jeremy_Shirland's topic in Line 6 Lounge
Curious....Are the Atomics supposed to be somewhat "full-range" stock? Or are they just powered guitar cabinets with guitar speakers in them when you get them?
