  1. how is it an opinion if that's what the specs list says?
  2. You should be able to build that preset with ANY two amps and ANY 8 effects to have the device work as advertised.
  3. The page that lists the feature comparison for the HD series has a bullet point that says "Up to 8 Simultaneous Effects" There is no asterisk with a disclaimer, there is no mention of NOT being able to use 8 simultaneous effects. Obviously no-one wants to waste the time and money to sue the company over it....we want them to look at what users are saying ( I think forum users should trump the users they never hear from when it comes to who to listen to) and be a company that helps musicians, not simply a vessel for cash to exchange hands. Hopefully, they will look at Ideascale (I still think its just supposed to pacify some people from sending repetive feature requests and avoid these discussions on the forums, cause I'm sure its not awesome for business), hopefully they will add the features everybody wants to the next gen. Right now, they could acknowledge that they really did drop the ball on a few aspects of the HD series. Maybe have a developer or two clarify some things on here....Like I said, I'm not expecting free hardware, and I've had my HD500 since the second month they were out. But the marketing is damn near a flat-out lie, and it really is misleading.
  4. I think everyone understands dynamic DSP at this point....the issue is the device was advertised as "Dual signal chain with up to 8 effects". It wasn't advertised as "Dual Signal Chain with up to 8 Effects unless you picked some that use more processor, then it might be single chain and 6 effects, unless you picked an amp that uses more processor, then maybe only 4 or 5 effects, oh yeah, and if you're using full models, you're gonna have to compromise on the reverb......" Are you able to see the difference there? That's what people are bothered by here. I understand that a computer can use all of its available to a fault, because it is tasked with multiple purposes at any given time. the PODs are dedicated devices with only one job, audio processing. To be what it was advertised to be, someone should be able to fire up to full Angel models with condensers on the cabs and turn on 8 f**king octoverbs or harmonizers, or pitch shifters or whatever and it should do it. Otherwise its not really as advertised. Nobody was buying the 300 and 400 because the price point was close enough to the 500 and the routing was so vastly different. If the 300 came out at $150, you would have seen a lot of them selling. Instead it was $299 or something.
  5. pointless argument.....if you're Variax contained 8 models (no idea, never used or owned one, just an arbitrary number), but if you picked too many with humbuckers, you only got five or six, then I could see your point.
  6. Treadplate with OD would be my best approximation if you want to use an amp....my Epic model sounds nowhere near as fizzy and ball-less as the insane model....
  7. There is nothing that really comes close as far the ridiculous amount of gain that the insane model has. Luckily, all of the high gain models sh!t all over it. If that is really, really what you want, you'd probably get closer using a super clean amp, the metal zone distortion sim, and some EQ. I always hated the insane model cause it turns low-tuned stuff into a wash of white noise, but that's my taste.
  8. who cares who wants to run 8 octoverbs.....if someone does, they should be able to, even with two amps running, otherwise what you have is "Ten Available Slots that can contain a total of 8 effects and two amps, but not at the same time" which isn't how it was advertised. I really like my 500, I get (what I feel are) excellent tones, people ask me about my gear, and I don't see a need to change at the moment (the EQ's are annoying as fVck though) but, I did feel a little cheated after having it home for a few weeks and getting past my performance patches, which are DSP-light, and trying to build some synthy, spacey tones and hitting the DSP wall constantly with sometimes only 4-5 slots filled and only one amp. You don't buy a four slot toaster and then keep it if you can only use three at a time, right? The EQs are a DISASTER....I repeat...A DISASTER in UI and if I were line 6 I would at least apologize for not fixing it even if they never plan to. I don't expect things for free aside from firmware updates, as I feel they are the equivalent of Service Packs for an OS and should be free through the life of the software.
  9. The original HD500 shouldn't have been so embarrassingly underpowered when it came out....if you advertise 8 effects slots, people should be able to use all 8 filled with Octoverb if they want, as well as running Dual Full Amps with mics and cabs....then it would do what they said it would in marketing (if you read the manual before it came out, you might have had a leg up knowing about the DSP). They could have at least offered some sort of steep discount for an upgrade...trade in the 500 and $100 for the 500X.....I hate COSM modeling, but if Boss says you get two amp paths and up to ten effects, you'll be able to use two amps and ten effects.
  10. that's only ever happened to me with high gain tube amps
  11. My experience is the same as OP....tried some cheap FRFR monitors (Harbinger), tried some expensive FRFR monitors (Mackie), tried some mid-range FRFR monitors (Behringer/Mackie), but for live volumes I couldn't get anything useable...the mid-range and low-end monitors had zero mid-range presence and couldn't even get over the drummer (all were tried in stereo with two 12" or 15" speakers) and they sounded like lollipop and balls at gig volumes. Yes I was setting up my patches at gig volumes, as well. I would need at least a stereo 31-band rack EQ to make them useable, but I can get recording tones easy, and I get compliments every time we play on my live tone which is Omen 8->HD500->Crate Powerblock-> 4x12 Grundorf Frankencab w/Bugera drivers. I can do awesome ethereal cleans and "just-broken-up" blues through the FRFR stuff no problem.
  12. That "extra" that you're hearing with them together is just volume dude. The idea of the mixer being able to be fully panned means you can run two totally separate chains with no crossover between the two. If you're running a single amp, or two amps in a "layered" tone, widening the spread wouldn't help you, and it probably would sound "thin". Try building a patch with one amp in Path A to how you like it, then mute it and do the same in Path B. If you combine these two its probably gonna be a clipping, farty mess, but if you spread them full out, you get that "full" sound from both amps, but separated.
  13. I'm starting to think you and the other new "gc......." guy are plants from Line 6...did you search threads before posting this? Ideascale is a joke so far.....just there to placate everyone while nothing happens.
  14. They've too busy pimping overpriced PA equipment to interface with all this stuff to make the recording I/O, amp additions, and various other tweaks and fixes (that should have happened a year after the HD series came out) we've been looking for. The next generation won't even be able to plug into a regular amp, it'll be some weird proprietary plug that only connects to their $3000 mixer and $1200 speakers.
  15. I still can't get a tone similar to the last Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza album (Danza IIII The Alpha, The Omega) that guitar just growls!
  16. There is no logical argument for how the EQs are arranged. The fact that are "useable" does not make them good. I use my ears too, but I use my ears to determine a frequency range, and I want to be able to select it (or something close) without having to memorize a spreadsheet converting percents to hertz.
  17. Obviously we're not robots, but we didn't have a single issue until recently. I will try to record an audio file. What starts off as a continuous loop develops a hiccup where the record/overdue button was used to play the loop. Anytime its gotten out of time in rehearsal it was still playing the loops consistently, but I made the loop too long or short and its noticeable immediately. This starts out fine and gets worse.
  18. So the last few weeks I've been having an issue with the looper. I start a loop and begin an overdub, and about the third time the loop comes back around the original layer doesn't match the overdubs anymore, and the longer it goes on, each consecutive layer gets further, and further out from the original. I recently updated to the newest firmware after this started as an attempt to right the looper and it seemed to be working normally for a few days. But its starting going out again and we play to a backing track during one part that I use the looper for lots of layers and I can't do it if the loop gets out of wack after a few bars....This thing has gotta be past its warranty and there is no way I'm paying someone a buttload of money AND shipping to get it looked at. Just so everyone knows, I've been using the looper in performance with hardly an issue since the day I got it practically, so its not a matter of my timing or no knowing how to use it. Is it possible the switches need to be calibrated so they trigger at the right time. I haven't noticed patches on the Record/Overdub button lagging during changes or anything... thanks to any and all with any advice, helpful or otherwise!
  19. also, orange cabs are super boomy in my experience. I have yet to see a band a live with them where I thought "Damn, that tone sounds awesome!" Usually they sound muddy, sludgy, undefined, and lacking in upper mids (to my ears)
  20. Hey, another 8-string player here. My guess is that you simply have too much bass in your tone. I'm assuming you're already running some sort of boost drive in front of the pre-amp, so a place to start might be there by backing off some low end and increasing the middle on your boost. Also, if you have any compressors in your chain, especially post-amp or right at the front you may want to check your settings, as this can cause the issue as well. May want to examine pick-up height, as well. FWIW, I've gone to a pretty basic Gate->Boost->Gate->Amp chain and its made my tone way, way clearer. I'm using the Mesa model with the gain at about half way with a boost in front with drive at 3, lows at 25, mids at 100, highs at 75, and the output at around 75.....sounds a little dry by itself but the mutes hold long and tight and when the kick and the bass get in there, its fvcking massive.
  21. Are you trying to get both signals down the same stereo line? cause sound guys will hate you if that's the case, haha. I'm not sure what you mean by a "hi-fi type of PA". Like a home stereo? I would suggest plugging your guitar straight into the instrument input of the VLP then take the "thru" into the input of the HD 500. I personally would send them both out separately so you can adjust individual levels, but if you don' t mixer I guess you could send the headphone output to the POD's CD input and then just output the POD in stereo, using the output level of the VLP to adjust according the guitar. You could probably also send the MIDI out from the POD to the MIDI on the VLP to have your vocal effects change patches with your guitar effects, but I wouldn't know how to do that, exactly.
  22. try clicking on that little tab that says "control panel" and make sure that you have all the settings in there where you need them, other than that, make sure you're setting an AUDIO track in Cubase (I think you can add an "instrument" track but that's for MIDI. That screen shot is pretty distorted so its hard to see what you've all got going on there.
  23. I would gladly pay for things like extra effects and model packs, but some things like the EQ bullsh1t, output mode silliness, and cabinet sim improvements (phase correct, editable) should be considered bug fixes and should have been taken care of right away..the EQ thing was probably the 10th post when they started a forum for the product, and probably one of the first five things mentioned on IdeaScale. I don't need the sh1t to be free, just available.
