yeah, return it! Guitar Centers seem to have one or two really helpful employees and a bunch of teenage lollipoptards who buy in all the broken gear and pretend to test it, and rebox damaged new items and stick them back in stock....
-
If the original POD is sounding better than your HD either you're just used to the sound or something is seriously wrong.....
-
I tend to agree...its pretty hard (at least with the HD) to get a direct sound that is awesome with cab sims, that still sound awesome through an amp/cab with the sims off. I go for mic'ing my cab, but those little Behringer DI boxes get closer to my cab than the cabs in the HD500 when it comes to a live amp tone.
-
You say "cart" like they're 25lb pieces of rack gear....I'm too frugal to let myself think that spending 2 (or more) times as much on something for two or three extra features and a marginal increase in sound quality is in any way worth it.
-
and by the piles if you're looking at the AFX/KPA as competitors for the HD series.
-
should be able to select which soundcard Cakewalk sees even with both connected....I guess that might be easier, but you're still gonna be tweaking them to sound good, and if you already know what you need it takes all of 20 seconds to get the effects in place, then you're tweaking like you would anyways.
-
Not sure why you can't run your POD via USB even if you're using a different interface to record with....also not sure why anyone would by ANY REASONABLY-PRICED MODELER based on the presets that are already in there...especially line 6 stuff...And as mentioned, just knowing the name of the patch isn't gonna tell you whats in it....
-
lots of people are, they are using workarounds to achieve what you're doing, though. Behringer makes some cab-emulating DI boxes with good reviews, you could go the dual-tone route, or you could buy two HD Pros and use for direct and one for the amp and still spend less than either of your other options. ...lollipop you could almost get three for the same price.

is the conversion utility necessary for Pro/500 patches? can't you just change the file extension?
-
There is no USB over MIDI, so you need either an interface with MIDI I/O or a MIDI-USB cable.

I gotta meet these people who play in bands that all go silent in between patch changes..... -
Period Of Silence When Switching Between Patches On Hd500

not much to do about it besides timing your changes live.....its really almost non-noticeable unless you're playing on your own. The amount of effects/what they are can affect the changeover time as well...its takes longer to load a clean tone with 7 effects that a dirt tone with just a gate and a boost, so for live think about less DSP intensive effects where you can, as well. -
Is your HD firmware up to date....I was noticing more patch lag on the original FW than I do now, but it is still present...if you don't want to spend over $1000 on a modeler, the only one I've seen with no noticeable lag is the Zoom stuff. Boss stuff "feels" like it does this, but it basically just holds a half-second of audio till the patch is loaded, and it has spillover with ambience effects. Try out an RP-series digitech pedal if you want to hear what bad latency sounds like...
-
how would a modeled wah INSIDE a modeler have a preference for "true bypass" or not? I'm gonna second the Real Zap here and suggest you check your input Z settings. If its set to auto, it changes depending on the first effect in the chain, and this can brighten or darken your tone. Depending on the guitar/pickups it can be almost unnoticeable or very annoying.

Anybody no where the Pro has gone off too...can't find it on Sweetwater or Musicians Friend....Pro X? Maybe?
-
that...is....awesome! So I could load backing tracks onto an RC-300 and still use the looper for my guitar on the other tracks? f-in A! gotta look NOW!
-
the trick is to hit record one the "1" and hit play/overdub on the "1" also...don't try and cut the loop off right before the one, then you'll get a gap. I've used the looper on mine since day one in a live situation, it just takes some practice...and a back-up plan if something gets fudged! @The Real Zap-When you say configurable output options with the RC-300 does that mean you can send one channel to somewhere other than your amp?
-
In the past I've made little hoods around my MFX displays with some cardboard and gaffers tape so I could at least see my patches...switch LEDS is another thing!
-
yep, as stated....you're never gonna get a truly accurate "live" sound in headphones...volume affects tonal perception, not all PA's have the same base response, different speaker brands have different resonant frequencies, etc.....best bet is to get PA and a room you can be loud in to work out live patches for PA use.

I feel like that's part of the reason, though, that people often choose Line 6 over Boss or Digitech or Zoom...Line 6 has a history of providing useful, free updates over the life of a product, as well as paid options for additional features. I know that kind of swayed me when I was looking to replace my Boss GT-8. I saw how much extra stuff came down the line for previous POD models and was hoping the trend would continue, because that is the precedent Line 6 set for themselves. Also, I feel like these types of a devices are basically "music instrument computers" and should be treated like any other computer manufacturer handles their stuff...they improve functionality as long as the product is viable in the market...service pack updates on a regular basis to fix minor bugs, firmware updates on phones/tablets, new OS versions that are available to existing customers to deal with issue and new functionality. I think its almost like a FU to customers the way Boss just throws something out there and waits till its obsolete and pushes out a new product before they've exhausted the capacity of the hardware. Line 6 has been pushing away old costumers with the new-ish "less-is-more" approach to updating the existing product line, as far as guitar processors goes anyways.

This had no effect on anything....I've uninstalled/deleted from registry/reinstalled drivers, done the same with Reaper (tried different locations, portable install to HDD, portable install to thumb drive, installation on a different partition) and the problem persists, but again, only in Reaper. Got my Studio One License on Saturday and have been working on bouncing out all of Reaper projects and moving them over (reaper still works with Windows native drivers for some reason!?!?! just not any of my interfaces or ASIO4ALL) If you guys think of something else, please let me know, as I'm not fully ready to give up on Reaper just yet, but thanks for all of the suggestions so far.
-
So, the guys at Cockos think I need to DE-select "Microsoft Wavetable GS Synth" in the midi devices panel...haven't tested, but that was the "official" suggestion
-
its gotta be a settigns issue, as that amplifier should be able to push that 6505 right out the door if needed. Like these guys said, check your line/amp switch, mixer levels in the POD...and like bjnette said, work on your tone as a group. If you both have awesomely massive sounding distortions when playing alone, you'll sound like poop playing together. A "good" heavy guitar sound actually needs to carry more mids and highs then anything and if your bassist is a root-note-along-with-guitar type player, a thinner guitar sound will actually be beneficial.
