  1. I have been using the 500X since it came out. Before that I had the 500. I work in a cover band that some times plays small places and I enjoy the freedom of not having to bring an amp to the gig. BUT, I recently picked up a 100W Marshall combo amp, AVT100. I needed an amp to bring out to open mic that didn't require my pedal board and everything that goes with it. Now I have fallen in love with the tones I am getting out of this amp and just can't seem to duplicate it with the 500X. This is a very bad dilemma to have. I must now choose between solving this problem, or hauling this amp and reworking all my 500X patches to be FX only because at this point, I need the 500X for a lot of other obvious reasons. I use Variax 500's and up until now, my favorite (go-to) combination has been LP Special 1 combined with the Soldano amp model. Any suggestions you might offer would be very much appreciated.
  2. Nice work.. I have been carrying a paint brush and spare power supply all along..
  3. Have you checked eBay? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Line-6-Variax-workbench-usb-interface-/222092160586?hash=item33b5b96e4a:g:UeAAAOSw1DtXFtbZ
  4. I just bought a 300 with some issues. It was randomly changing patches. This fix worked perfectly.
  5. I am currently VAX-PLANTING a sea foam green DiPinto Galaxy IV. Chris DiPinto made me a replacement white pearl pick guard with no pickup cutouts and Ghost makes a bridge that is the exact replacement for the Jaguar style Mastery bridge that was already installed. Got the hole routed for the standard jack plate and all I have left to do is route the battery box in the back and assemble.
  6. When you plug a second L2 into the first one, using the L2 Link Out, it automatically sets up as stereo, from the HD500X?
  7. The other thing that bugged me about the 600 was the gloss finish on the back of the neck.
  8. If you have your HD500X plugged into the L6 Link input, to you still have the 2 channels available? And if the answer is yes, would it be true that the CH1 and CH2 gain and tone controls have no effect on the L6 Link connection?
  9. Perhaps I just learned to embrace the quack! HAHA I don't know, you are right, personal choice. I had a 600 with the maple neck for a while too and still like the rosewood 500 neck better. I find the JTV necks a little on the "log-y" side for my liking.
  10. I also prefer the fact that it has no magnetic pickups in it. People come up to me all the time at gigs and ask me, where the pickups are… I am in the market for a nice solid body 700.
  11. I have 3 Variax 500s. 2 of them have ghost saddles and one of them has the LR Baggs (stock) saddles. In some respects I like the sound of the stock saddles better but the ghost saddles do have what I would characterize as a smoother sound. I am basing my comparison on the fact that I bought a JTV-59, tried it, did not like the sound, and got rid of it quickly. I used my HD500X and the exact same patches I use regularly with my other guitars.
  12. I stand by my own experience that the 500 & 600 sound much better than any of the new JTV models.
  13. Someone has the actual battery box with circuitry on eBay….. That is what gave me this wild idea.
  14. Just wondering if it would be possible, Charlie, to retrofit the new rechargeable battery into a 500. I'm handy with electronics and could adapt the actual connector but hmmm 7v and the 500 is expecting 9v (6 AA batteries @ 1.5v each). However, the VDI cable from the HD supplies the same voltage to both JTV and older variax models, so there is still the potential for this to work….. Any thoughts?
  15. Does anyone here know how many volts the new JTV batteries put out?
  16. YUP, unfortunately, this scenario, I know all too well.
  17. Consulting with someone tomorrow about this combo and just wanted to double check my facts here. Variax Workbench will work with the Variax 300 plugged into the HD500 as an interface? The VDI cable will power the Variax 300 without batteries? Patches stored in the HD500 will be able to control which guitar model is selected on the Variax 300? I currently use Variax 500s with an HD500X and I know that all these things work in my scenario with the exception of the Workbench connection. Just need to confirm for someone else with the 300/HD500 scenario.
  18. FWIW, I bought one of those EH organ pedals and ran it through the FX loop. Tried moving the FX Loop block to every position including first in line and it sounded like crap. I returned it. I have a POG2 in the loop now and it does sound great.
  19. Sounds Fantastic! You can REALLY tell the difference in the sound between "XLR in" and "L6 Link in".
  20. I still have it. Was planning to list it on eBay..... Interested? It has neck body keys (locking spurzel style) plus bridge, nut, backplates and strap buttons. Body is in beautiful condition.
  21. I was not happy with my Amplifi 150 at all.
