Here's my latest challenge. I am trying to feed my clean Variax signal into a harmonizer to trigger vocal harmonies. My effected Variax signal goes direct to the PA. Looking for suggestions as to the best way to accomplish this. I always use a mono output. The attached picture is the only thing I can figure out right now. Any thoughts? My next question would be, is the top representing LEFT and the bottom representing RIGHT? And once the signal reaches the mixer at the end, assuming 100%L and 100%R, will the clean Variax signal be isolated from the effects chain on its output? Also hoping that this will have no impact on my current sound. Any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Dave, I have one of those Warmoth VXs I think that I am down to the question of wether the jack assemble and knob modules will still connect. The piezo connection is different.

Does get you into the ballpark and saves a few steps :) :)

HAHA - That was awesome… Steve Vai would be proud.. The tones are very cool and like the use of the pitch bend pedal (if that's what it is). Live drums or programmed?
-
I guess that would be one way of doing it.. It bothers me that there is a ghost of an unused amp there.

Would be really cool if you could split the FX Loop and take the send from one location and insert the return in a different location.

As far as I can tell from pictures I am finding online, the main PCB in a 500 and a 600 are the same except for the orientation of the cable connector. Does anyone here know for certain if the boards themselves are interchangeable? Yes, I also see that the piezos connect to this PCB in a different way (circuit board and jumper wires) and not a mylar tape like on the 500.

Yes, Ground Control is running Luminair "midi to dmx". Once you know the dance moves, you don't even have to think about them.

Loaded Variax Workbench on Windows 10 64bit. Complained that Java Runtime couldn't be downloaded. Finished install. New Microsoft Edge browser don't allow plugins, Java couldn't be downloaded. Installed Firefox and set that as the default browser. Went to Java.com and downloaded the "offline" installer for the latest Java. Installed Java. Workbench seems to be running but I don't have a Variax here to test that with. The software seems to be running properly and looking for a connected interface. Hope this helps.

I will try it out today.

Technical question JTV guts.
leesteel replied to leesteel's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
thank you. -
If I had all the guts for a JTV 69, is it possible to connect the "model selector knob" from a JTV-59 to that circuit board? Also, does anyone have pictures of what it looks like under the pick guard of the JTV-69?

OOPS, sorry.

plastic/abs type case for Variax 500
leesteel replied to johnmoore1's topic in Variax Guitars / Bass / Workbench
Venturing a guess but I would think that a PRS case, similar to a SE Santana model should come close. -
Very nice Peter!

Full Compass can order you the plate with the door by itself without the electronics. You perform you own surgery.

Variax 500 Input Jack Plate Assembly
leesteel replied to brue58ski's topic in Variax Guitars / Bass / Workbench
The other option, which I just completed, is to have Full Compass order the VDI Jack for you (from Line6). You can call FC and talk to the parts guy. You will need to remove the two phillips screws and carefully un-solder the bad jack from its circuit board. Solder wick is the best method to remove solder if you don't have a "sipper" iron. Use as little heat as possible as not to lift the circuitry off the board or you run the risk of ruining it. I would be willing to perform this operation for anyone in need for a nominal charge plus shipping. If you are interested, please feel free to send me a PM. -
I have several VDI cables that I have made to have different lengths (a short one for the home studio for example). Cat6 cable is perfect. These connectors are not any different in size from the Line6 jack. I just put a pair of dial calipers on both. You can purchase the metal connector body on eBay. Some of them install on the cable without even removing the plug from the wire. Neutrik NE8MC-B Ethercon Carrier eBay Item # 301294628251 15ft CAT6 Ethernet Cable eBay Item # 400499898906 Yes, a standard ethernet plug will wiggle without the metal carrier, however, I have only suggested doing that as a test when troubleshooting your guitar in a pinch, not as a solution for live performance.

EXACTLY! My only difference was that mine went into a Variax 600 and there was no chiseling required.

I actually just purchased a couple of the jacks through Full Compass. You have to unsolder the old one from the little PC board and re-solder the new one (think it was 10 pins in all), worked perfectly. In the past, I purchased the entire output jack assembly from full compass. the one with the little trap door. There was a ground wire that I had to solder, however, the connectors were the same. On the 500, there is very little dis-assembly. I did open up the cover plate to unplug the connectors and have extra room to work after unscrewing the jack plate. 2 screws also hold the ethernet port onto the shroud.

Everything about this post is incorrect.
