  1. EMP produced by atmospheric nuclear detonation trumps all! :-)
  2. Further to my previous reply re FRFR112 vs Powercab. The FRFR112 is a PA speaker, designed to project out to an audience. Powercab is a guitar cab design, intended to give a more AITR feeling in close quarters. One of the things I like most about the Powercab is the built-in speaker emulations. I've mostly stopped using cabs/IRs in favor of those. Also, the XLR out on the Powercab, sent to the FRFR112, really fills out the sound, and is much better sounding than the FRFR112 by itself. That combo also allows you to tweak your presets closer to what the audience will hear from the FOH system. Lastly, headphones are always going to sound like headphones, and if you create presets using headphones, they might not translate well to meat-space.
  3. To add to this, the noise reduction mentioned is only an issue with cable runs over 20 feet. At those lengths you can get a short TRS/XLR adapter cable and use XLR cables. Again, it won't affect TONE, but XLR cables are cheaper than really long TRS cables.
  4. Not the cable's fault. You can try using Hi/Lo cuts on the cabs/IRs. You can try various EQ blocks and tricks. In Global Settings you could try switching the output levels between INST and LINE. The same results using my FRFR112 are what caused me to get a Powercab112+. Something that MIGHT help is to stand farther from the speaker, and put the speaker on a short stand at about chest level. The separate HF/LF drivers require some distance from your ears for them to mesh properly, and being off the floor helps cut the boominess that the FRFR112 is known for. BUT, if you get the speaker too high (ear level) you might get ice-picky sound. The PC112+ has a coaxial speaker, so the sounds reach your ears mixed and at the same time. I still prefer it off the floor though. If none of that helps, and you can't afford/don't like the sound of the Powercab, come back with some more specific info about what it is that sounds bad, someone might have some more specific suggestions. But try the above first.
  5. Gotcha'! p******y. Don't miss him at all! Then you go and speak his name! Speak the devil's name and up pops the devil! BAD ON YOU! :-)
  6. OK, back to the beginning. Signal Chain: Guitar>HXFX L Input>HXFX Effects>HXFX Loop 1 (Amp)>HXFX Loop 2 (ML5)>HXFX Effects>Output Block Snapshot 1 - Sends ML5 message to turn ON the Harmony Loop, turn OFF the Synth Loop. Output Block Panned LEFT Snapshot 2 - Sends ML5 message to turn OFF Harmony Loop, turn ON Synth Loop. Output Block Panned RIGHT. FX Loop 1 (amp) is always ON. FX Loop 2 (ML5) is always ON. In SS1 ML5 Harmony Loop ON, Synth Loop OFF, Panned LEFT. In SS2 the ML5 Harmony Loop is OFF, Synth Loop ON, Panned RIGHT. What am I missing?
  7. Also, check in Global Settings>Ins/Outs. Return Type should be set to RETURN.
  8. That wasn't meant to be snarky. It just means to use common sense. If you know what causes the problem, DON'T DO IT! Yes, there's a deeper problem in your system, but since it seems to be confined to your system, as opposed to being a widespread problem, it's hard for me to offer helpful suggestions without having YOUR system in front of me. Hardware and driver conflicts, bad memory sections, corrupt Windows files, these are the most common causes of the dreaded BSOD. If you're comfortable with the kind of extensive troubleshooting procedures used to solve these kinds of issues, go for it! Otherwise, you should consider taking the system to a pro to get those procedures done. Another thing to look at is your Cubase configuration. I use a number of DAWs (Reaper, Cakewalk, Ableton LIVE). I tried Cubase and thought it was the least intuitive DAW I'd ever used and, unfortunately, Steinberg support is pretty useless. However, Cubase is still the least likely suspect. Hardware, memory and drivers, corruption in some Windows files, these are the most likely suspects when dealing with the BSOD. Good Luck!
  9. Remember I said that I don't use my Helix for this? Now you know why. There's no way to do this Globally. You can create a "Template" (or use the preset I created) and build your tones on top of it, or you can modify each and every existing Preset. There's no way to just "Copy/Paste" Command Center settings. As for how to do it, that's why I sent an EXAMPLE preset. In HX Edit, open Command Center (Menu Bar>Window>Command Center) and examine how I set the switches. It's really quite easy to do.
  10. What you record depends on how you set the Track Input in Reaper. If you set it to 1/2 you get the same signal as the Helix L/R Outs. If you set it to 7/8 you get a DI (unprocessed) signal. No idea what "the whole Reaper control section" includes, but you only have 8 buttons, so....
  11. Here ya go. Stomp Mode Buttons 2-5 : FX Bypass in signal chain order Button 8 : Play/Stop (returns to Start of Project) Button 9 : Play/Pause Button 10 : Rewind (returns to Start of Project) Button 11 : Record (starts RECORD for all armed tracks) firehawkwah.hlx
  12. Taking into account my edit to my first post, and that you're using a Helix product that has Command Center (not Stomp - coming with v3.0), you would assign the Hotkey or MIDI commands to Instant Commands (the lightning bolts) to have them sent on Snapshot Load, or to regular buttons for manual (non Snapshot) control. If you get specific about what you want to do (what are the EXACT commands you want to send and when), I can send an example preset to demonstrate the basic principles. Read the manual to find out the basics of using Command Center. Understand that, while I know HOW to do it, they're not things that I use my Helix for. As an interesting learning experience, I would create and test the preset in Reaper and YT and pass along anything interesting that I learn.
  13. Not sure I understand. You can assign Reaper and/or YT "Hotkeys" to Instant Commands that are sent when Snapshots load, and/or in Stomp Mode, assign some buttons to Helix commands and some to Reaper/YT Hotkeys. EDIT: I believe that the Hotkeys are sent to the "active" window, Reaper OR YT. To use both at the same time you'd need to use MIDI commands for Reaper, and have the YT window active to receive the Hotkeys. I think. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

donkelley - What I meant by that is, HW is circuit boards and components. Beyond simple analog effects, it needs to have FW to tell it what to do, and FW is just SW that lives in HW. Helix is a combination of clever HW and clever FW. Native is pure SW. Of course, it requires a computer to run. That computer replaces the purpose built Helix HW, which is a computer. Make sense?

Pretty pointless to pursue anyway, since this is all just pie-in-the-sky ain't gonna happen anyway verbal (textual?) noodling. Not to mention unrelated to the thread topic!
  16. Yes, as long as you need your amp in 4cm, you're up against the limitations of only 2 FX loops.

Not sure what you mean. HW is still SW.

That's reasonable, though the odds of raising enough funds aren't good even if L6 could (would) come up with an accurate cost estimate. Post it up on Ideascale, see how many votes it gets!
  19. OK, here's what SHOULD be an HXFX preset that I made in Native using HW Compatibility Mode. It demonstrates the Panning and Snapshot principles previously outlined. Deleting my previous (pre-coffee) presets. Snapshot1 is both paths, panned L/R. SS2 is PathA ON, PathB OFF. SS3 is PathA OFF, PathB ON. IRL, replace the Distortion and Delay Blocks with Loop1 and Loop2. Let me know if it works as required! C4TH hxfx.hlx
  20. If I decide to keep my Egnater Tweaker 15/112, I might look for a good deal on an HXFX. Then I'll have everything but the Rack. MUST....RESIST.....GEAR ACQUISITION SYNDROME! BUT YOU HAVE MONEY IN THE BANK! WHAT GOOD IS MONEY IN THE BANK? NO! MUST....RESIST.....GEAR ACQUISITION SYNDROME! ............
  21. Oops! My bad! If OP has Native, he might be able to open the presets to see what I'm doing. The principles concerning Snapshots and Panning apply in any case.

The question is, would you be willing to pay real world development costs, or expect L6 either to eat the real costs or spread it around to the rest of us? My bet is that, while the idea is wonderful, very few would be willing to pay the real world cost of custom programming, and the market for the custom modules would be too unpredictable to guarantee ROI for L6.

  25. I did this before I saw that you have a Stomp, but when v3.0 hits you should be able to use the attached example preset. To make creating something like this easier, go to Global Settings>Preferences and set Snapshot Edits to RECALL. Open Command Center and set Snapshot 1, Instant Command 1 (lightning bolt) to your preferred PC#. Repeat for each Snapshot, always using Instant Command 1. When you're done testing, SAVE the Preset. No need to SAVE between each edit (that's what RECALL is about), just don't change Presets before you SAVE. emmebi.hlx
