Anyone run their HD500X into the effects return of a guitar amp?
JTSC777 replied to Rocco_Crocco's topic in POD HD
I don't use the 4 cable method with my HD500. I have used it straight into the effect return of 5 or 6 different tube amps all with great results. I just used it that way a couple hours ago with my JCM800 combo. It is the best way IMHO and my favorite but many places I play gigs at require an FRFR approach so the tube amps stay home. I run that way with no cab in each patch selected. I have about 20 patches with cabs to FRFR with cabs and the same ones in other banks with no cab selected. If I had my druthers I would run my HD500 into a healthy tube amp at every venue! It is simply amazing and impressed many other hard core tube amp players at a talent night I just hosted. -
I started as a drummer and still play them.I played a show in 2010 with John JR Robinson the most recorded drummer in history. He has been Quincy Jones drummer on everything he has produced for the last 30 years. That guy can play!

My HD500/Atomic Reactor wedge rig just killed last night in a 200 seat club! The JC 120 is amazing! The new JCM800 is Def Leppard City!I highly recommend these older Atomics for the HD500. They dont get real loud but man you can really hear the cab models and effects through them.

You don't need eq on your active speaker. HD500 has global eq now.

If your band is organized in its thinking and uses a set list it can work very well.If your band calls audibles and has no clue what it is doing next like my band you are wasting your time trying that approach lol!

You can switch patches from the ipad using a songs select app. Dont know about the other way around. You will need an apple camera connect kit a 4th generation or newer ipad/ a midi - usb converter cable and a bunch of time and patience to get it to work. I used my ipad to switch patches on my HD500 and GR55 for a while by tapping a song title on my ipad but abandoned it when I got tired of connecting so many cables.

Exp pedal 1 must be set to volume / switch none. Exp 2 must be set to wah / toe switch. Setting heel to 0% and toe to 100% per cent sounds like crap.Set them to heel 15% toe 75% and they sound more like a real wah pedal. I had to reset all my wah/ volume pedal settings after updating as they were all reversed after I did it. Spend some time with the editing software. It is your best friend. Good Luck!

yeah drummers. its funny how they like to tell you what they think. wish more of them would learn to tune their drums instead of having me do it for them lol!

My vintage amp pack kicks booty! Taking my POD HD500 and Atomic Reactor Wedge for a spin tonite in a club! Glenn is so good it's ridiculous! Lots of guys have chops / licks etc...Glenn has musicianship skills.Thats what you need to really make music for an audience not just for other guitar players!

Don't turn up the master on the POD all the way.Leave some headroom. I put the mixer right after the amp and it works for me.I dont use it to level things out so much.I use the channel volume for that.Use the POD computer software for editing if you aren't already. That gives finer control over the channel volume. You of course can put the mixer anywhere you like and see if it works.I recommend experimentation.I personally have used the HD500 a lot at big churches with IEMs/ no amps and I really like it a lot for that application.Be sure to adjust all cab parameters by using Meambobos guide. It is available here on the forum. The cab deps' are critical for the kind of setup you are describing. Good Luck!

I left Facebook about 4 years ago with no announcement except privately to the band I quit because they did all band business on Facebook.I left FB so I could have interaction with intelligent accomplished innovative musicians on V-Guitar Forum/ The Gear Page/ Line 6 Forum/The Marshall Forum etc...I consider forum membership to be a privilege and am grateful for all the help I have received here and at the other forums. I especially learn a lot from posts I dont agree with. More than the ones I do. Great athletes know that you do not learn anything from winning. You only learn when you lose.So I guess I am announcing that good, bad or otherwise I AM STAYING AS A MEMBER OF L6 FORUMS!

I did not have to reload my patches after updating even though I bundled and saved them. Everything remained the same just sounds better. I used Monkey and followed every prompt exactly. Also my PC has no virus crapola on it.It went super fast and smooth like creamy Skippy Peanut Butter!

M13 four cable method problem with applying effects in the loop
JTSC777 replied to flyingheelhook's topic in M5 / M9 / M13
The cabling for the 4 cable method is a PITA for me to remember.I made a flow chart and keep it with my M13. I also labeled the inputs and outputs on top of the unit. -
Does the tap tempo still go into tuner mode when you hold it down? It could be the switch.
-
The tuner foot switch gets used a lot as it is also the tap tempo foot switch. I had to replace mine myself. It is a tiny tactile switch under the actual plunger you press with your foot with 4 solder contacts. You can find youtube videos to show you how to do it.Resetting the unit will not help. These switches are delicate and dont require much pressure to switch. They are like the buttons on your TV remote they just look like heavy duty stomp switches. They are not. With care they las a long time. Good Luck!

My Ipad setlist maker app will change them both with a finger tap and I did that for a while when I rolled round wth both my HD and my GR55. I put th GR55 away for the most part. The Talk Box has taken its spot!

I wanted to build guitoilet years ago using a toilet seat and a Fender neck.I got most of my parts together and started to do my layout.I even had some younger punk rock guys wanting to buy one from me.Confidence was high! Then my wife discovered my guitoilet project and threw away all three of the toilet seats I had lovingly collected for my prototypes. If I had actually been able to produce two or three I am pretty sure I would not still be out at night playing Sweet Home Alabama and Bruno Mars latest single to pay the bills.Demand for the guitoilet I believe would have been strong enough for me to get out of the cover band business.I had a dream and it died a hard painful death.I still grow wistful about that dream when I buy new toilet seats for the toilets in our home.

Nice work! Makes me want a Variax. However I wont play this often requested tune with my trio unless something nice goes into the tip jar.

The Fawn sounds good with the humbuckers in my Epiphone Dot.I used it to play Hard Days Night at an outdoor gig and it surprised the hell out of me!
-
I am just glad the HD500 has bank up down switches. If you want to pull your hair out borrow a friends Roland GR55 and try to bank up and down on that thing lol! I find the layout of the HD pretty intuitive and the only time I have problems switching things on it is when I am really tired.Like yesterday at a talent night I host.I damn near fell on to a female singer whilst switching patches on my HD500 /GR55 combo lol! I needs to take longer naps.

No I use the Tube Depot. They have been good to me.Yesterday I did a 2,000 plus outdoor beer festival gig on a huge stage.I used my HD500/ line 6 wireless/2 Alto 12s and one of my strats switching to my 335 for the last set. Cranked up this rig sounded great. I am used to the difference in feel having been using Line6 software in studios since the first Amp Farm came out. Funk/ Roots/Punk/Classic Rock and even a little Nirvana. This simple rig worked very well and required no tubes or the concerns that go with it. The band also has a huge killer PA and that helps when using any modeler. I think a lot of players get frustrated with especially the HD because they are forced to blow it through poor PA gear. The gig yesterday was hot and dusty. Not good tube conditions. The guitarist in the band before us used an Axe-Fx into a nice tube amp.He is a good player but sounded pretty bad. I think it was the PA his band brought.Too small for 2,000 plus outdoors.

I understand this somewhat.Having been a guitar instructor for over thirty years I have learned that guitarists are easily flustered/frustrated/angered etc...The thing that is puzzling to me is that guitar players are incestuous in what they listen to( mostly other guitar players) which leads to somewhat one dimensional short term thinking.I spend a lot more time playing/ practicing and learning more theory/ listening to vocalists/ sax players and piano players than I do fiddling with guitar gear. Guitarists as a group are usually short on the set of musicianship skills they posess. I am not talking about playing hot licks/riffs/chops or sounding just like your favorite guitar player I am referring to the other part of being a musician and that is being a musician.I also am glad for the OP who knows when it's time to move on.Those are tough decisions for serious musicians and I hop the Axe-FX will take him and his audience where they want to go. My philosophy is that the more you know the more you can do. No peice of guitar gear can teach me how to get better. That comes from someplace else.
