  1. I can tell when the electricity is dirty at a gig bcause my HD500 sounds like poo. All of these digital devices are sensitive to power fluctuations.
  2. For those like me who have been wondering about using the M13 into an EXH 44 Magnum and a 1x12 16 ohm cab I am here to tell you it is a great sounding easy way to use the M13. I tried it this morning with a couple of different guitars and they both sounded great. Loud cleans. Raw crunch. Violin sustain. It's all there! No 4 cable method needed. Plug everything in and go. I run a wah and A compressor in front of it. My Boss comp is velcroed to the top of the M13. I will roll out to a club gig tonight and then a large private event tomorrow with this rig. I almost like the tone of the M13 this way better than in 4 cable method with my various tube combos/heads. Sounds very open and big.
  3. Also update to latest firmware. My used M13 did all kinds of strange things until I did that.
  4. Reading all of this thread has me wondering why my old Varix 500 does not do any of this stuff. I put a set of 10s on it when I got it.Set it up a little and have been playing the hell out of it ever since. No plinks/plunks/clanks of any kind. I play it with a Dunlop jazz pick and with fingers.Through FRFR/HD500 rigs and tube amps. Something is very different with some of these JTVs.
  5. Great to see this thread and so many players so passionate about serving at Worship services. I am a member of another forum that wont allow this subject to be discussed lol! Regarding copping the tones of Worship tunes. I dont bother but I have played for over 40 years and that is much longer with much more experience than many of the players on these recordings. I would encourage all Worship band guitar players to find your own thing. God has not brought you this far to have you offer him a flattering copy of someone elses sound.Just my opinion. Also new HD500/500X owners. Turn Down The Bass in all amp models! The default settings of 50% are actually 100% per cent and can make your patches sound awful. Last things. Stay out of the range of the bass and kick drum with your e.q. settings.Pull back when people are singing dynamically. Do Not Be Afraid.
  6. "If you meet Buddha on the road kill him!" Great little book I highly recommend to everyone posting on this thread. Players/ employees/ experts / service moderators/ associates etc.... The answer is there is no answer. Dont look over here look over there. Thats probably good enough in 2015. Anyone old enough to remember Iron Butterfly should know that 30 years ago no company could survive with non- answers/ obfuscation and discombobulation. In the words of the Roland service technician who gave me the ole' look over here not over there bs. " Maybe it is all in your head sir."
  7. My M13 strated doing the same thing during crunch time in a nice studio with a large budget at stake. It was the tap tempo/ tuner switch. I replaced that and have had no problems since that time.
  8. If your channel volumes are almost dimed or maxed out I read somewhere that the HD500 will lower itself for some reason. I keep all my channel volumes around 50% or so and have no problems but when I first got it and would raise the channel volume on a patch at a gig it would do wierd things yes. Go into HD edit on your computer and lower all channel volumes by 20% and see what happens. You will of course have to raise the master some after this.
  9. My HD500 into the effect return of my modded Roland Cube 80 XL sounds really really good and is a very small in and out quick rig. I bought both used and modded the Cube to have an insert jack. Every time I use them I make money. Yesterday I gave three lessons, rehearsed and played a live gig all with those two tools and a couple of well setup guitars. The Helix will have ro get a lot cheaper and work with my older Variax before I consider buying one. For the "touch" and "feel" thing I have 6 nice tube amps old and new. They sit in storage a lot though these days lol!
  10. Be consistent with your cabs too. I only use two different cab models for all my patches. I have to say I just played 5 shows in a row with my HD500 and two Alto powered speakers and it just killed. I use amps for a while and then go back to the HD500 for setting up tearing down going direct convenience and it never ceases to amaze me.
  11. After reading about all the problems with the newer JTVXXX guitars I am very glad I bought a perfect condition Variax 500 that has absolutely no warble chirp or any other noises. I dont change tunings but I do use it with an HD500. They work very well together. One of the best features is being able to use the Variax with the VDI cable and also have another guitar plugged in at the same time for switching.
  12. I have also used FRFR HD500 live a lot. I like it but still don't love it and know now I never will "love" it. Played an outdoor show last eve with my M13/Fender BDRI with 6v6 tubes and a Texas Heat speaker. It sounded so good I was disappointed when the 2 hours was over. I have realized that I do not like my guitars interaction with the horns/tweeters in these FRFR cabs. Not the FOH speakers. The ones I am running my HD500 into that provide some of the "magic" interaction we all are looking for from the guitar and the amp. That is why you all love your DT amps so much. Great amps! Enjoy them!
  13. Power trio gigs. 2 Bose speakers. The lowest powered ones behind us. No floor monitors. HD500 direct in mono also run to my Alto 10 in personal monitor. For some venues I take a feed from the mains and also a feed from my HD500 and run them both theough the Alto 10. We use a new Behringer digital mixer. Drummer runs it with an Ipad. Each member can play and sing their behind off. Whether they can hear everything perfectly or not. If you have years of studio commercial experience like we all do you know how to deliver. I will not play with any whiny " I cant hear you enough/ me enough/ my dog ate my homework/ day late dollar short " wussys. Amps are great I still use them. FRFR is great I use them. IEMs are nice I use those too. It's All Good If You Can Play!
  14. I will gig this Friday with an HD500 and a Roland Cube 80XL that I modified to have a 1/4 in insert so I can run the HD500 right into the power section. I will use this setup with an additional 1x12 cab. Sounds/ feels really good. Huge variety of tones. Very consistent. I just sold my GT-10 and one of my GR55s along with a bunch of other amps/ gear but kept the HD500.For around 80% per cent of what I do live the HD500 is better than anything else in its price range or form factor. It has slowly but surely beaten out almost everything else I use for effects/ modeling. I keep a Tech 21 FlyRig in the truck as a backup. Another amazing little tone machine! So no Helix for me until they get tried used and abused and get a lot cheaper. I look at how much money I can make quickly when I buy a piece of gear. At $1500 it would take more than a weekend or two for me to turn a profit on the Helix. Purchased used my HD500 made me money after only two gigs. Love stuff like that!
  15. The internet is full of people commiting the sin of omission lol! I like and use my much older Variax 500 and may buy another dirt cheap one but I will absolutely not purchase a new or used JTV anything. Too many problems and all these "service" tech guys who work for Line 6 know it. Just look at the problems with the new Variax Standard. Too bad it is a cool thing but making one of these guitars a central part of a working pro rig is a fools errand. And a lot of working pro players know it.
  16. I recorded with the engineer for the Doors.Bassist Nye Morton 30 years ago how far back we go makes no difference but I guess its something. the guitar worked great last night and it is effective for the band I worked with at that gig. in 2010 I played a post clinic concert with drummer John 'JR' Robinson the most recorded drummer in history. He has been Quincy Jones drummer for the last 30 years. I got the call for that gig because I can play and have great gear tone and taste. I would not have used rhe variax for that. He requested a vintage Marshall and analog pedals and conventional guitars. He knows a thing or two. thanks again for all your help my son got a pizza for his trouble
  17. I have been thinking about getting a used HD500X My HD500 has been rock solid switch wise Variax500/HD500 and 2 Alto 10 in powered speakers is working well for most of my gigging needs. Maybe I will just leave it alone for now.
  18. Update got my long out of warranty $200 variax 500 out yesterday and had my 17 year old computer building ethernet pin fixing savvy son bend the pins back into place with a little hook I made from a sewing needle. seems to be ok now. I have some Beatle tribute shows coming up and will give it a bit of use in those
  19. Loud clean tones require a loud clean amp running large bottle(6L6/EL34/6550 etc...) tubes. That amp wont get loud and clean with EL84s great amp but loud/clean cant be done with it. the M13 does great cleans on both my Fender Hot Rod / Blues Deluxe amps.
  20. If it will indeed power up from the wall outlet update the firmware to the latest one.
  21. bought new or used? if it is used the tap tempo/ has probably been hammered as mine was when I got it. soldered in a new switch and it has been good yes you must have the settings right or the tap function wont work
  22. All the Boss units and a bunch of others have had a Global or Master EQ going back 20 years or more. It is nothing new just a shortcoming in the HD units L6 finally fixed. Use it to tune your HD unit to the house PA or room.Playing through an amp? Turn it off. Dont use it for radical EQ changes Less is more re: global eq
  23. I have recently removed all but 1 or two sets of EMGs from all of my guitars after almost 25 years of using only EMGs live. The stock pups in my cheap PRS made me start re-evaluating my pickups. Fender Vintage Noiseless/ Stock SDs in my new Squier Vintage Modified Strat etc...all sound better to me. And the POD HD500 loves nice adjusted low passive pickups. So do my tube amps! YMMV-IMHO-GFYS etc...etc....
