  1. Its not a dream rig but last night I played a very large outdoor farmers market using my HD500 an EMG equipped hardtail strat and an Atomic Reactor wedge I was planning ro sell.Holy Crap what great fun tones! I got to try some of the new vintage model pack amps and used the Divided by 13 amp about 50 per cent of the gig.The Atomic is the older 50 watt with 6l6s in it just to make it more linear. I think I will keep it after all as they are becoming a bit harder to find.If I come across A DT25 at a price I can live with I would try it but more and more the poor quality of CP tubes is driving me away from my tube amps.Glad you guys are digging these DTs!
  2. I use my HD500 for cover band gigging because it works better for me and is more cost effective than the Axe-FX.I could buy one if I wanted too but it would have to make sense. The one player in my town who had one for quite a while and can actually play finally sold his ( and sold me one of his two Atomic Reactor wedges). He then bought a brand new 335 and a Fender Super Sonic.Quite a radical change lol! Most big league high profile players do not use the Axe.They use individual pedals and specific amps. The guys on The Gear Page/Fractal Forum would disagree with that I know. PODs/Boss GT series/Zoom etc.. all have some usefullness depending on what you are doing. I have heard the Axe-Fx many times in person while different players played it. I never heard anything that would make me want to make the leap. The last album I worked on(Follys Pool-Out Of ADream) I used an Egnater and a couple other amps and a good old Line 6 M13. Using modelers was discouraged on that project by the producer but I still got the M13 in there! Having said all that I am starting to Jones for an Amplifier Studio Devil.Fractal has some real competition from them. But until I get one my HD500 works good/sounds great and more than gets the job done.I have a lot of high paying jobs coming up over the summer and it will be a real money maker for me.
  3. For all the 2x12 type amps I use the Ported Dr.Z or Port A Sub or whatever its called cab. The only exception being the JC120 model.
  4. I am glad you are digging the changes in the company re: your dream rig. I do a very similar thing by using my HD500 patches into the effect return of my 5 different tube amps sans cab models. Blown trannys are just something I cant deal with anymore even on cheaper tube heads. I think a lot of these problems are because currently manufactured tubes are disposable junk and more and more I am using FRFR setups for gigging.Yes I know the DT amps change topology etc.. with each patch change but thats not enough for me to buy a DT head and have to put NOS tubes from 1960 in it at a cost of too much money to make it worth my trouble. My 1982 Marshall might get some NOS love in the future but my more modern tube amps will not.Line 6 cannot get into the tube business and have control over this critical component in tube amp manufacture. I think they will soon get out of the tube amp business.I know Fender wants to get out of it.
  5. Standing up causes you to lose 10 per cent of your chops period . Any of you who have taken jazz lessons from a really good jazz piano player should know that.Sure you play the amp too etc...I like to practice on an acoustic for some of the same reasons I practice electric unplugged. It's like swinging a bat with a donut on it. When you practice that way when you get in the box and it is your turn to hit swinging the bat is a lot easier. All of these guys Satriani etc... all practice with and without the amp.I buy guitars because of how they sound unamplified. If it sucks unplugged I dont bother to play it through an amp and I keep looking.
  6. Use the mixer in your Fawn patch.Turn it up to 2.5 or so but not high enough to cause clipping.I personally really like the Fawn and I am not a Vox guy at all. Also put a mid focus eq at the end of the effect chain and tweak it. After messing with it a while I got my Fawn to roar like a lion!
  7. Welcome to the forum. Please post some more thoughts after about 3 months with the HD500.Three days is kind of a short amount of time but hey we live in a short term thinking kind of world. If you really want to pull your hair out dive down the Roland VG/GR guitar synthesizer hole lol! I have found my HD500 to be a pretty good gigging tool. Lots of great folks to help you here. Good Luck!
  8. You know I never even thought about that Husker connection. The band was named by the singer and drummer neither of which would know anything about Mr. Mould.I also do an acoustic duo 2 or 3 times a month with the singer.I will have to aske her if she knows about "Sugar".
  9. Look up drummer John JR Robinson.Quincy Jones studio drummer for the last 30 years.I was chosen to play a concert with him at the local university in 2010 by the professor and lecturer there in pop rock and jazz. We played a lot of his Herbie Hancock fusion tunes/ his own compositions and tunes like Moments Notice. I did not get that gig because I can't play. The HD500 has more than enough juice. The player has to do the rest.If you dont like digitized music get rid of your ipod/ cd players etc ...I hear digital crappiness in all of it but it is the way things are in a modern music world. I keep several nice tube amps and a bunch of old pedals and some vinyl records around for my own enjoyment. I know many players who try the digital stuff and abandon it and go back to the old school way of doing things.Nothing wrong with that.Hurghanicos guide is brilliant.Follow all the suggeations in it and see what happens. Good Luck with your playing!
  10. I am a perfectionist about my playing not my tones. If you play live in front of an audience I dont care how jaw dropping your "tones" might be to another guitar player the general audience can tell that either you can play or you cant.I wont go into how many Axe Fx guys I have blown off the stage with my old JCM combo a couple of pedals and a pretty good set of ears and a few thousand hours of practicing WITH NO AMP! That is how you get better folks.Get that guitar happening /resonating/ speaking etc... with no amp and then plug it in.90 per cent of what I do is in my hands.
  11. Welcome AlexKenivil! The POD is a great device and if you keep the right attitude which you already have you will get great results with it! Lots of really helpful folks here! I have learned a lot!
  12. Yeah my powered speakers are a pain to adjust because of that reason too. Currently I am experimenting with a passive FRFR speaker(Alto 10 I modified to be passive after it croaked) with an EHX 44 Magnum power amp.Turning up or down is easy doing it this way.So I split with the D.I. box /send the HD500 line to the house/dont touch HD volume after it is set and turn my little speaker up or down as I please using the volume on the 44 Magnum. Works well so far.The only direct box I know of with a volume control is a small mixer which I carried around for a few years to mix my Boss GT-10/GR55 rig. Also I only use this setup in small bars/restaurants etc...for corporate casuals etc... I bring more gear. This is my light and easy in and out solution. I have to say I like the HD500 with the little 44 Magnums tone.At moderate volume it works well.If you play in a band that does the volume war thing it wont work though.YMMV.
  13. I use a direct box to split my signal and run one line to the house mix and one to my keyboard amp or powered speaker.I can turn my powered speaker up or down and it does not affect the signal to the house coming from the D.I.Solves issue number 3 for you.
  14. I had my oldest son who is a competent guitarist play through the HD 500 and a 44Magnum into a passive FRFR speaker so I could tweak the Global EQ. Now I have this thing working right!
  15. To the OP.Yes. Great for P&W tunes. I just recently went from leading at a small church to being the electric player at a 3,000 seat mega church and the new models are great for that application. The Orange is a good model. You have to take the time with your guitar to tweak it and get the cab model right.
  16. Obviously I meant Irish citizens.Having done many tours of Canada I know all about earning money out of the country as a US citizen but thanks for the clarification I do appreciate it and voted you up Pianoguy!
  17. I run the gain structures of my HD500 patches like I would a real amp.As an example I will use a Marshall amp slightly overdriven for a base tone .Then I have two upper footswitches assigned to a pedal. One is a Tube Driver. The other is usually a Fuzz of some kind.I use them for lead boosts along with the volume knob on my guitars.Gives me three levels within each patch. Much like a Jekyll and Hyde pedal into a tube amp works. I do this with every patch on all my processors Line 6/ Boss/Zoom etc...
  18. Back to the topic as I could go on and on about frets for days. Finally played some new amps at low volume through my older Atomic Reactor Powered Wedge that I have not used for about 1.5 years. Tones are quite good and later today my oldest son will play one of my strats through this rig while I tweak and level patches. So far so good! I am starting a new job that will require killer tones direct and use IEMs for monitors so these new amps will be very helpful!
  19. I live in the same state in the US that Line 6 is headquartered in and I paid my states ridiculous sales taxes when I purchased my Vintage model pack. I am a working pro player and use the HD500 as a tool to make my living so for me I have no choice. In fact I just got a new job that will require me to use the HD and IEMs almost every week .My musicians tax law strategy is to work harder and make more money to compensate for what I pay in taxes as a self employed individual in the US. I dont like having to do that as it means doing some gigs I would like to avoid but I am very fortunate to be very busy working in music even though I am getting older. I dont know what musicians tax laws are in other countries except for Ireland.Musicians pay no income taxes there at least thats how it was 20 years ago. The packs are well worth it taxes or no taxes.
  20. I dont use any of this useless Norton Mccafey etc... anti - virus crap. Its worthless and causes nothing but problems.I have updated Zoom L6 Roland Boss and a bunch of others and never had a problem. Turning it off wont help as it runs all the time in the background.Remove it.

    Fizz...

This technique works really really well! Just do it.
  22. Tube Driver overdrive model into the front of the Pete Anderson or Deluxe sounds real good too.I use those a lot.
  23. I play in about 6 different bands.I am the first call "sub" guy in my area.My main trio is called Wild Hare.I also play in a band called Sugar that put up a bunch of youtube stuff recently.Sugar is a soul/r & b band with a female singer . I don't purposely shoot video of myself but lots of people do at these gigs I play at. I am not on Facebook or anything like that so probably looking up the band Sugar out of Central California would be best.I will try to see if any of the bands I work with might be able to point me to a link or something. Thanks for asking I really should be more serious about that kind of thing. If you really want to hear some things I have recorded look up the band Follys Pool and the album Out Of A Dream. They have youtube videos too.
  24. The JC 120 is my go to amp for straight ahead and other kinds of jazz.Thrilled to finally have it.Before this model I would avoid using the HD500 for jazz gigs of which I still do many.Between the JC 120 and the Pete Andersen I have George Benson/ Wes Montgomery/ Robben Ford etc... finally covered !
  25. I have wanted global eq in my HD500 since I got it.That feature is one one of the best things about my Boss GT10. Not going to turn it off.I will use it to tune my rig to the different rooms I play in.I have listened to the raw amp models in my HD after I updated and before I bought a model pack and still thought they were slightly different.I know a lot of users here are recording these HD units and putting them under the studio microscope. I understand that type of use all too well lol! With the update and a vintage model pack it has become much more useful to me for live gigging. Many times though I will use other rigs as well depending on the material I have to cover and size of the room. The real test will be to crank the HD up and play it at volume using an FRFR amp. That is where these units fall apart. When I have to play a very big room and play real loud I typically use something else like a Marshall JCM800 combo and my M13 or the Fly Rig or a small pedalboard with individual pedals.
