  1. Isn't the only effect that has a 2-choice curve the volume block?
  2. I have tried the XLR and 1/4" in the past and they worked fine. No hum or anything else unwanted. About your other suggestion of checking the spdif for dropouts with an analog connection present. I have also tried that when I first got Helix, not for the purpose of checking for dropouts, but just making sure everything appeared to work. So I did have both outputs connected for a while and can recall dropouts on spdif. Definitely using a 75 Ohm coax as well.
  3. They don't seem like the best reverbs ever, but they're workable. I would suspect they'll release some HX reverbs sometime. They probably were running out of time when they first released Helix, so I wouldn't be surprised if this is one of the results of that. I'm sure they would have put HX reverbs in there to begin with if it was completely up to them.
  4. I thought about that too, but I'd have to buy a converter to make the output optical. Not cheap and not worth it.
  5. It's has to be something with Helix because before Helix, I used an HD500, then HD500X, with their spdif outputs. Never once encountered a dropout. The equipment used outside of all three devices is exactly the same, including cables and power sources.
  6. For me, I haven't noticed any difference with 1.10.0 for length or frequency of dropouts. It's pretty much the same as all other firmwares. I wonder if this is something Line 6 is able to fix and if they had an uh-oh moment yet. Surely they must know about it and are able to reproduce it by now. It's gotta be near the top of their bug list. Plus, if it's a software problem, it doesn't seem like it would be something extremely difficult to fix. Makes this output kinda useless for anything other than monitoring.
  7. Indeed. This is a great downfall of IRs, especially if you're one to get stuck in indecision mode that can last days or more.
  8. I use usb for recording all the time and the spdif for just monitoring. The lack of volume adjustments for usb would be nice but I don't really find it a problem. There's an ideascale entry for it too.
  9. I still get dropouts with the latest firmware, 1.10.0, every time I use Helix.
  10. Just find an empty spot on the path, insert whatever block, pick up the block and move it where you want it. The rest will obey and move out of your way.
  11. Sounds like it might defective. It might be worth doing a global reset after backing things up: http://helixhelp.com/pmwiki.php?n=Main.ResetOptions It might even be worth a try to reflash the latest firmware and then a global reset, although I'm doubtful this would do anything. To get warranty service, you'd have to open a support ticket or contact Line 6: http://line6.com/support/tickets/add.html
  12. It's much easier to rearrange blocks and it's easier to change a block. It's also easier to change parameters with the sliders or typing in a value. The most notable for me is the lack of a lasting physical pain from use.
  13. Didn't like it at first, but now I would find it difficult to not have it! Also with willjrock, needs a little work yet.
  14. http://line6.com/support/topic/17953-creaking-pedal/ I think there's a few other threads about this too.
  15. You might be unknowingly touching the tap tempo switch? That's the only thing that will do what you're describing. You could cover the switch with something, tape?, or turn off the global setting for touch sensitive switches. Or it could be a faulty touch sensor for that switch, which would kind of suck.
  16. If you hold switch 2 while powering up you get a mode to screw with the LED colors and brightness, but nothing for the main screen. Could that be what you're thinking of?
  17. That's certainly strange then. Never came across something like that. Could be something specific to your OS install. No idea what, sorry. The only thing I might suggest if you haven't tried already is to uninstall the Helix drivers and then reinstall.
  18. I think the delays are some of the better effects. There's quite a few that have integrated modulation of some kind: Mod Chorus Echo: chorus or vibrato or off Dual delay: chorus, vibrato, off Multi Tap 4: chorus, vibrato, off Sweep Echo (my favorite): filter (low, band, or high, with adjustable shape, rate, start frequency, range, resonance, and duty cycle) Reverse Delay: chorus, vibrato, off Transistor Tape: wow/flutter Adriatic Delay: there's rate and depth controls for something Elephant Man: chorus or vibrato (can control depth)
  19. Have you tried disabling Helix in Windows? You can do that for both playback and recording devices. Same place you're looking for disabled devices. Make sure Helix is turned on first, it doesn't show up otherwise. Also, doing this doesn't prevent using Helix's USB audio in your DAW or using the editor.
  20. Lol. You're not some Ridley Scott creation come to life, are you?
  21. He did tell me that they still will wear over time. He didn't say how much time. And I've been told they're harder on the strings. I have no doubt about that, but the question is by how much. Previously, I've let my strings get to a point where the wound strings are missing their windings over the frets. It usually took a while, a month maybe, to get to that point. That's when I know it's time get rid that string for fear of slicing my fingertip. But it's hard to determine because playing times and intensity can vary greatly. In any event, replacing strings is better than an occasional fret replacement or dressing as you say. It's like having a completely different guitar with these frets. Almost frictionless. Don't regret it one bit. It was expensive though. Could have floated around in that indoor skydiving place for six hours.
  22. You could easily add any sort of modulation (what's currently in Helix) to any of the delays by putting the delay in a path of its own with the mix at 100%. Put the modulation, filter, eq, etc. right after the delay block. Use the merge block to control the mix of the original signal and the delayed signal.
  23. Good to hear you're enjoying you're new guitar. Pickups are probably one of the most influential things you can do to a guitar to change the way things sound. Sounds like you may have found ones you like. Give it time, I'll sure you'll find something you don't like about them. It's always a great thing to find an instrument you can connect with to make music. I finally got back my Jem for re-fretting, chose stainless steel, and it's like a brand new instrument, it's better than how it was when I first got the guitar originally. The stainless-less steel frets really make a difference and everything is buttery smooth. For anyone in the Milwaukee area looking for this service, check out Denny Rauen, absolutely flawless work by him. He's well known in the business.
  24. Nice guitar. It reminds me of my Jem, but rounder and fatter and with a maple fretboard. Have fun with it. That indoor skydiving sounds really fun. I've done the real thing several times but taking the fear away with these indoor contraptions looks more relaxing. Are they expensive? And how long do they let you "float" around in there?
